Question about back to back cruises

How does turnaround day work when on a back to back cruise? We will be in the same cabin, so I know we won't be packing and disembarking.

But we will want to get off the ship and go and do something in Honolulu. Are we able to return to and board the ship anytime we like?

Hoping someone here knows so I can save an international phone call to find out!

We did a b2b to Alaska and it was great and very easy. In our case, we even had to move cabins because we wanted to be on different side of the ship...no brainer..

All you will have to do is go to get a new picture taken where you embark and disembark. Once you've done that you can come and go as you please or just stay on the ship. You don't have to leave the ship...just get a new picture (it's for security reasons since they consider a b2b two separate cruises).

We did a B2B on Carnival a couple of yrs ago. I'm sure all crusie lines work the same.

On debarkation day, we were told to stay on the ship, and meet at the info desk or purser's desk. After everyone had left, we we personally escorted off the ship and right back on. Yes we had to get a new card and new picture, establish a new on board account, but this was done way before any of the new passengers were allowed to board. Once we were on the ship again,. we had the ship to ourselves except for the crew. We were NOT allowed near our cabin as they close the halls to do all the rooms, but we were allowed in all the public areas. Once they start letting new passengers on board, you can then go eat once again and your new crusie has started.

Cheers

We have done 4 B2B previously with our 5th coming in January 11. The 4 previously were Carnival (2), NCL and Celebrity. I'm glad Carnival has changed there procedures as we has to disembark and get back at the end of the line to go through embarkation. On NCL we when to the pursers desk the day before and received our new cruise cards. We left in the morning to tour the town and when we returned, the only thing we had to do was get our pictures again. On Celebrity we received in our cabin a transit card that we showed when we disembarked, and for some reason we had to surrendered our passports (this was in Fort Lauderdale and we are US citizens). Upon our return we again showed our transit card. There was a POC in the embarkation area that we had to stop at, get our passports and they gave us new cards. Then we got our pictures taken.

We've done B2B"s with HAL and Princess and were free to go ashore and return as we pleased with no security hassles. Our cabins were cleaned as per normal without any restrictions as to access. Imagine the Lido was open for lunch, but not sure about MDR as we were always ashore most of the day. For us it has always seemed to be seamless.:)

We are planning on sailing from New York on the Splendor. Our question is whether or not we will have to pack our luggage and remove it from the ship (other threads suggest we do not unless we change rooms) and how long we will have to be off the ship to retake id photos, etc (we'd really like to stay onboard as much as possible). Any help would be appreciated!

Hopefully you know you opened a two year old thread on the Hawaii board.

Most US ports on turnaround day you don't pack and move. You simply have to clear immigration. You will receive detailed instructions on board.

If you are back-to-back on the POA, there is no immigration as you have never left the USA.

I should have added that when you come into the US - I assume by air from Down Under - you will have to go through customs and immigration. Once in the US, you don't have to go through immigration as long as you are in the USA

If you have the same room, then all of your luggage will remain there. If not, you will move your luggage to the other room when it is ready. You will get a new ship board card but no new photos.

Now, when you go on a back to back cruise that ends and begins in a USA port it varies by port and sometimes each time no matter if it is the same port. In general, for those doing the back to back they will be asked to wait in a room and disembark at the ship together and will go through customs and immigration. They will not have to bring their items onto the pier such as what they bought but they will have to turn in a customs card. Once the ship is cleared then they can return back to the ship. This is how it normally works and the amount of time to clear the ship varies each time.
