Cell phone data?

I am cruising from Vancouver to la next month. I have pay by the day via Tmobile. Coverage is for while I am in the US.

Would this work while cruising down the west coast?

I wouldn't use it much but would be nice if it worked at times.

Thoughts....

• if you have roaming in Canada... you will have coverage in Vancouver and up the inside passage to Port Hardy.
  
• you will get brief coverage around Prince Rupert.

I'll add to expect NO coverage along the Washington, Oregon and California coast until you get within a few miles of LA.

Depending on the ship, there may be a cell tower on board. In other words, your phone may automatically connect to the ship's cell service and that could be very expensive.

You will commonly be 20 or more miles off shore, except when approaching a port. So no cell coverage from land.

The OP has Pay by the Day data, which is a prepaid service. In my experience prepaid phones won't connect to the ship's cell tower (and even postpaid T-Mobile phones don't connect for data).

I was kinda thinking that as well. That's okay. I wasn't planning on using it unless I could and then tether data to my ipad.

I will just use the ports to use my phone etc if needed.

Virgin Mobile wont connect to ship. Won't connect to shore more than 3 miles usually. Antenna just aren't that great on phones. I pull the battery out of mine anyway so I don't get charged roaming. Who needs a phone at sea?

agree. its time i forget about it lol or at least try.

If you know now to select a specific wireless provider on your phone (on Android it's something like Settings / Cellular Networks / Network Operators) you can sometimes get some results further at sea than you'd expect.
