Celebrity vs. Royal Caribbean

Need some advice from the forum. We have been long time customers of RCL

(Diamond Plus) and have also sailed on Celebrity a few times (Elite). We are double booked on two transatlantic sailings in October. One is on the Allure and the other on the Silhouette. After booking the Allure (great room on the very end of the ship) we got a call from friends who are doing the Silhouette. They wanted us to join them.

Not sure which ship would be better for the trip. We are booked on the Allure for the transatlantic and one week cruise in Europe before the trans. The Silhouette is all in one ( ports in Europe and then cross the Atlantic).

What would you do?

That is a tough choice because both are awesome ships and both would be really nice for a TA.

Personally, I would rather TA on the Allure because there is so much to do on board. However, I think I would prefer the all-in-one cruise of the Silhouette. How close are you to those friends? Do you really want to spend that much time with them? I don't know, that's a tough choice. What about perks....does one stand out over the other? By that, I mean free drinks packages, dining packages, etc?

All things considered, I'd probably lean toward Allure on this one.

What a choice to have! I wish I was in this position. I think in terms of the ship i'd choose Allure, there is just so much to do. Obviously you have to balance that with your preference to go alone or with friends. Why don't you try and get your friends to rebook on the Allure?

I'm sure you'll have an awesome time whatever your decision.

If you are in a dilemma, take two identical pieces of paper, write "Allure" on one and "Silhouette" on the other, then fold and shuffle them thoroughly and have the DH/DW pick one note. Whatever is written on it, is the cruise you are taking !:D No cheating!:D:D:D

This is the way it breaks down. With the Allure we would be sailing on two consecutive cruises - one week going to ports of call in the Mediterranean and then the transatlantic. The total of the two sailings would be 19 days. We booked a balcony room at the very end of the ship that will give us a beautiful view off the back.

The Celebrity sailing is a total of 15 days and the same ports of call would be visited on the one sailing. We have a balcony room in the middle of the ship.

Our dilemma is that we have primarily sailed on RCL over the years and now have achieved Diamond Plus status, which we really enjoy the perks. Apparently, they have just recently redesigned the Diamond and Diamond Plus lounges to be together on the ship. Has anyone recently sailed on the Allure and checked this out? With Celebrity, as an Elite member we get to enjoy the complimentary cocktail hour and that is pretty much it.

Cost wise, we would be spending pretty much the same amount of money. The Silhouette is completely sold out, so if we back out we would open up a room for someone else. My wife and I like these friends that have invited us but they are older and we are very active and like to do things like play poker in the casino, dance, etc...

I think we are going to go with the Allure.

Another question for the group - we want to get to Europe about a week early and travel from Paris to Barcelona. Any suggestions for traveling - train, car, bus?

Thanks for all the feedback.

  • 1 month later...

Hello. We did a spring TA on the Allure from FLL. Great ship, lots to do and was heading for a freshen up in Barcelona for the October cruise back to the states. The rear balconies are fabulous. Try the Allure. We're in the same dilemma to choose Celebrity vs RCL because of time constarints or opting for a shorter cruise...
