Hi there all...

We are scheduled to arrive at the port for our RCC cruise at 9:30 am....quite awhile before they even think about letting us board....any suggestions on what we might be able to do there locally? We'd be on foot - taking a shuttle from IAH to the port.

I've been researching Galveston as well and it seems that The Strand is walking distance to the port -

You are walking distance to the Strand. Stores open at 10am. You could have breakfast/coffee at the Tremont Hotel 24th & Mechanic. There are several restaurants in the downtown area.

There is also the Tall Ship Elissa and Texas Seaport Museum along with the movie theater showing The Great Storm of 1900, Jean Lafitte, the Pirate and Immigration into Galveston (all about 20 minutes). There is also the Lone Star Drilling Rig Museum - fascinating!

The porters will take you cabin checked luggage and there is a pedestrian bridge over the street between pier and the Strand. It has lots of shops and restaurants. The train museum is at one end of the strand. Boarding of the ship is usually around 1100am to 1130am. You wont have access to your cabin until 100pm. They cannot start boarding of the ship until all arriving cruisers off and into arrivals. The porters are located at near end of terminal when you first drive in. Traffic is usually heavy.

Thanks - we have a shuttle bringing us down from Houston and 9:30 is their estimate of arrival. Good to know that there is a ped bridge to get across. We'll just leave our luggage with the porters and go for a walk. :-)
