Civitavechia Shuttle Bus from ship to port gates and train information.

We will soon be on Aurora and going to Rome. Is the Shuttle Bus from ship to port entrance in Civitavechia a complimentary one and therefore free, or is it put on by P & O and therefore has to be paid for if you are a Saver passenger. Also, does the ship still berth about a 10 minute walk from the port gates to the train station? We want to catch the train to Rome and have heard the berth may have been changed to further away from the station, and we need to know how far it is to walk. Many thanks.

Whatever line, there will be a long Q and a bun fight for the free shuttle bus. Then a 10 minute very brisk walk to the station. Best to take a taxi from the ship to station.

The shuttle bus from the quay is free for everyone, but the point at which it drops you in Civitavecchia is now further away from the station.

You can catch a public bus from the shuttle bus drop off area to the station but we walked, taking a good 15 minutes.

We once walked from the berth to the dock gate. That was a good 15 minutes (on that occasion). Plus there would have been the walk to the station after that.

The shuttle bus in civitavecchia has three stops. It stops in a car park near the ferry port where the bus station is, it then stops at the old fort where the shuttle bus used to stop previously which is within walking distance of the train station and also stops near to the cruise ships at a new food village. We walked from the ship to the old fort in about fifteen minutes

Last Monday there was only one shuttle bus stop in Civitavecchia.

We wanted to take a taxi from the ship to the station but none of them were willing to take us all. They all wanted to take us to Rome so we had to do the shuttle then the train.

If you go by train, I would just say that there is no warning you're coming into St Peter's (san Pietro) station. It's a good place to get off the train for St Peters' Square / Sistine Chapel and from there yo can catch a bus into the city. I'd also recommend getting your day tickets at the little tobacconist / newspaper booth in the station rather than waiting in the long queue at the ticket office. I learned that on this site and it was very useful as we were rushing to get the next train

Last Monday there were 8 cruise ships in port and nearly 19000 passengers!

Maybe that affected the shuttle bus service.

As we had recently visited Rome we avoided the crowds by taking the train to nearby Santa Marinella and had a lovely day on the beach.

We are in civitavecchia on Ventura today. In fact I'm sat on my balcony right now after just getting back from civitavecchia on the shuttle bus. There was only one stop which was about a 10 min walk from the port gates. There was no queue for the shuttle bus in either direction although we weren't off early to catch a tour
