Oceana Regatta Alaska cruise June 2016

I've been reading quite a few forums regarding the best time of year to go to Alaska. We have just booked today for June 16, 2016. We are flexible when we can travel. We really want to see lots of wild life but will detest lining up or hustling and bustling with lots of other people. We are visiting Alaska as a special wilderness trip. What's everyone's opinion as to the best time of year to to visit? We have chosen a small cruise liner so as to avoid crowds.

Thanks for any help

Lisa

You can get a lot of good information about Alaska on the Alaska Ports Of Call Board.

You wil find that the town in many of the ports between June and August will be very busy with tourists.

The key is to get out of those towns to see wildlife and to be with fewer people.

Personally, I like early May as there are quite a few less people there.

Keith has made some excellent points, as usual. The Alaska board is here:

where you will see variants of this question asked frequently. Going early or late in the season (May or September) can certainly limit the crowds some, but it can also have your trip limited by weather.

If you truly want a "wilderness" trip without many people, a cruise would not be my recommendation. A land trip would be far superior.

You might get good responses on Oceania's (with an i) Regatta's roll call.

Not much going on yet on that roll call. The one after it was started by an experienced Oceania cruiser. You may want to read there to find out what they are doing.

Have fun on your cruise! I love the Regatta! I sailed on her to the Amazon.
