If they use the air bridge very very gentle, as has been posted they will help with the pushing . Have you contacted P and O and said you would be boarding with a wheelchair, do let them know.

Yes I have advised P&O, got a bit concerned having watched a departure from Hull last evening as part of a TV prog. Looked like 35-45 degrees.

With that in mind, the question was breakfast or no breakfast!

Don't worry - Hull is not a regular cruise port. Liverpool too can be very steep depending on the tide as it is to a floating pontoon. Southampton is a breeze and someone else will be pushing if you have booked assisted embarkation.

Request the assisted boarding because in addition to somebody aid with the wheelchair you will get fast tracked.

There are also lifts at the terminal too. Do not forget this, I have particularly noticed when disembarking at the end of cruise they always station minders on the lifts to make sure the people that need lifts get them when transiting the terminal.

Special information about disembarking at ports during the cruise is available regarding the easier slope gangway, sometimes on a different deck. If you can look over the balcony if it is correct side or promenade deck you get a good idea of what might be best as a plan of action, forward, aft or midships when they have multiple exit points.

Hull does not yet have a cruise terminal, they have a ferry terminal. If you see P&O vessels at Hull they are going to be P&O cross channel ferries which are not the same at all.

Requesting assisted boarding might well give you a disembarkation lounge type arrangement advantage at the end of the cruise too.

The disembarkation lounge arrangement for assisted passengers means you wait in the ship in a dedicated area. The high viz jacket wheelchair assistants, board at Southampton come and collect you in sequence from this known location. They get priority through the terminal to free them up asap for them to return for next passenger. So you may wait a bit in the lounge. Whosoever accompanies you will carry your and their hand luggage. Your big suitcases will have been left out late outside your cabin on last night of cruise. This is the general arrangement, and the suitcases will be lined up in rows in the baggage hall at Southampton deck by deck in the morning. As you hit the big hall ask a porter if he/she is free, they are lined in a queue and expect this. They accompany you and your companion to the cases and load them then whisk them out of the terminal to whatever transport you have arranged. This is easier than getting your companion to get a self-push trolley.

It is worth it. I booked it for my last cruise as I was only 8 weeks post a knee replacement. P&O can then also arrange any equipment you might like in your cabin such as bath boards and other OT stuff, assuming you haven't booked a disabled cabin.

P&O have this great system in place because they know that some people with a disability need to get to the comfort of their cabin as soon as possible after travelling. They also expect extra hand luggage and provide assistance not just for your comfort but also for health and safety reasons. Hope you enjoy your cruise [emoji106]🏼
