The Fleet Report and Daily for Sunday May 12th, 2024
aliaschief replied to kazu's topic in Holland America Line
First of all. Happy Mother’s Day! Whew! What a week, lot’s of bus riding and early arises. Got up at 2:45 AM today to get out to Cape Town airport to fly to Johannesburg then a flight to Namibia, That was a shock when we landed and saw nothing but sand and dunes. I’ll post a few pictures of yesterday’s cable car up to Table Rock in Cape Town. South Africa has some beautiful terrain but with a 38% unemployment rate there are some very sad sights, crime and drug addiction problems. Last night we stayed in a beautiful hotel and went to an Italian pizza place 500 feet from hotel and asked front desk for directions. Do not let your party of four go without escort from our hotel employees which they did. Will get to Safari pictures tomorrow. Off to a much needed drink, early dinner and bed. Again Happy Mother’s Day to all our Mom’s past and present. Bruce PS: The cable car’s floor rotates as you ascend and descend.- 99 replies

The Fleet Report and Daily for Wednesday May 8th, 2024

Good morning. Our day started rather smoothly but the wind has picked up and the 32 ton Onward is rocking in 16-20 foot seas. Starting to pack for our few days away from the ship. There will be around seventy disembarking in Port Elizabeth and we will rejoin ship Sunday in Wavis Bay. Tonight we are dining with Captain Carl who is very entertaining then our guest pianist who use to open for Liberace will entertain. We saw him last year in June and he an amazing performer. So that’s what happening in our neighborhood. Hopefully I’ll be able to share some photos from our short excursions. Thanks for the reports and post. Bruce- 73 replies

Good morning! We are enjoying a beautiful day at sea cruising along at 17.2 knots on a comfortable Indian Ocean. Captain’s noon hour report told us we have sailed 28,800 nautical miles since leaving Fort Lauderdale. Enjoyed our dinner with Hotel Director last night and received an invitation to join the Captain tomorrow night for dinner. Last night’s entertainer was great. He was a finalist in America’s Got Talent. Attended a lecture this morning on getting the most of using our smart phones. The best part of our World Voyage is meeting and enjoying our family at sea. One cannot walk the length of ship without a friendly hello “Sir Bruce” from the crew. Thanks for the reports and post. Bruce- 80 replies

Enjoying our lunch BBQ and dance party. The lounge band has folks up and dancing. The nerve of us old folks. The Indian Ocean is churning but short swells so not that much movement. Like I mentioned yesterday dinner with Hotel Director and another talented guest performer tonight. Not many of us but they are keeping us entertained . No diet day here but there definitely will be one after this cruise. Actually sick of eating but it is so good. Thanks for the reports and post. Bruce- 99 replies

It was a great cruise on Journey. We really enjoyed the intensive Spain and France cruises. Enjoy.

I remember the locals lined up on shoreline and after that we docked and not longer after that is where we docked. Small port so figure that is where we docked. We’ve been to so many ports since. I believe we docked in Nantes.

The Fleet Report and Daily for Sunday May 5th, 2024

Good morning/afternoon. Our day’s of smooth seas ended last night. Wind was howling, rain and all led to a very rocky ship. Not the best night for star gazing and watching meteor showers with our NASA astronomer lecturer. Attended a briefing this morning for our overland side trip and mini safari. Looks like fun. I was supposed to be getting a much needed pedicure right now but that’s delayed due to podiatrist motion sickness. Set meal dinners tonight and one selection is chautubriand and lobster. Tomorrow night we have been invited to dine with Elizebeth our Hotel Director. More food and of course wine. Just got a call that the spa podiatrist is feeling better. Have a great Sunday and thanks to all who contribute to our Daily. Bruce- 79 replies

Today we did a short stay in Port Louis, Mauritius. Basically a fuel stop but we did manage to go ashore for a whirlwind tour. Getting ready to sail for another four days at sea before Port Stanley. Last night’s dinner under the stars was nice and we enjoyed a couple songs from the Marky’s.
