  1. I seriously doubt that someone who is taking advantage would rent a car at the last minute for hundreds of dollars. When they submit their receipts, it will show that everything was booked after the ship left as opposed to ahead of time. Trip insurance may cover some of it. We had an issue a few years ago where our flight was cancelled at the last minute. We were able to book a flight with another airline at a very high cost. Booking the new flight as opposed to waiting for the airline to re-schedule us was our choice. But our trip insurance paid for some of the flight.
  2. This sounds like travel interruption. Not sure why the insurance wouldn't be expected to pay for the flight changes and extra hotel nights. OP should certainly submit a claim. I had an issue on a trip awhile back where our flights were cancelled so we rebooked at a very high last minute cost with another airline. Submitted it to insurance and they paid some of it. Better than nothing.
  3. If they are on a cruise ship excursion they will do their best to wait for them.
  4. Exactly. If these are enjoyable dinners for the crew, I imagine they would get people who wanted to be there. But there are certainly passengers that look for any opportunity to complain. The last NCL cruise I went on, there was a session where a couple officers talked about the ship. It was a kind of behind the scenes tour but with photos. When they got to the question and answer section there were a couple people who kept asking questions that had nothing to do with the presentation or were of no interest to anyone else. I felt like the crew there was being berated. One of the topics I remember a guy bringing up multiple times was the salt substitute they should offer in the dining room.
  5. If you use a TA, you will still be able to book extras like dining reservations and excursions. What you won't be able to do is make changes to your booking - changing rooms, getting a price reduction, re-booking under a new sale. I've used 2 TA's, one was through a large online website and their service was great. Got better prices than the cruise line was offering and could get ahold of someone 24/7. My last cruise I booked with an agent at a smaller agency. It was horrible. After he took the booking he wouldn't answer his phone, return a voicemail, or return an e-mail. We had to call the general phone number for the tour agency and even that took several tries before anyone would help us.
  6. Maybe that's just too different a mindset than me. I would never take an expensive bottle of wine when traveling. Of course, I feel the same way about jewelry. There's absolutely no reason to risk breakage, lost, or stolen.
  7. My smart watch will only update the time when connected to my phone. Because of this I always leave it on manual time zones. I can't think of any reason where I would change time zones and not be willing to go into my phone to change the zone. On long flights I like to change my time to the new time zone at the beginning of the flight. It's easier for me to plan out naps and meals when I am already living on the new time.
  8. Those people wouldn't bother stopping and getting wine on the way to the ship. They would just purchase the overprice bottles available onboard.
  9. The plastic water bottle of wine is a little over the top. But I wouldn't hesitate to open the bottle in my room, have a glass before dinner, and then take a full glass with me to dinner. The restaurant analogy doesn't apply. There is nothing wrong with grabbing a drink at a bar and taking it to the dining room with you. You obviously wouldn't grab a drink at a bar next door and then take it to another restaurant for dinner. People certainly do get a drink at the bar in the restaurant and take it to their table. $42 for corkage is crazy. No way I would pay that.
  10. I cannot believe that your jurisdiction doesn't have a way to postpone jury duty. No one could reasonably expect you to cancel a vacation at the last minute. You mentioned an exemption for over 70. But you aren't asking for an exemption, you are asking to re-schedule. I would definitely call whatever office sends those out and at least ask before you go cancelling at trip.
  11. Is this a serious question? Tie your water bottle onto your backpack, carry it by hand, get a yeti cup and put it in your case and also store underwear/socks in it.... I've never taken a trip without finding a way to bring a re-fillable bottle. I feel like you are looking for arguements, not solutions.
  12. I get horrible motion sickness. My 2 cents. 1. the things that cause her motion sickness on land are the same things that may cause motion sickness on a cruise. I would tell her to take motion sickness meds for a 1 day and try doing things that normally make her motion sick. Will give her an opportunity to figure out what is effective for her 2. I understand the question about longer cruises. What I've noticed is that rough seas are more likely when there are more sea days. On sea days the ship is usually in unprotected waters and is going fast. Choosing an itinerary with more port days will lessen this. It will also give her more time off the ship if she is feeling it. I wouldn't let this stop me from cruising. I've never met someone who gets motion sick as easily as I do. I get sick on boats, ships, planes, cars, trains, buses, and even just watching movies. I am fine cruising with meds. I do the patch for longer trips and bonine twice a day for shorter trips. They both have side effects, so it will be worth testing them ahead of time.
  13. I'm not sure how strict your kids are. But, be aware when you eat in port - there will be fish sauce or oyster sauce in just about every dish. The person I went with is allergic so we used google translate to create a card saying that she was allergic to fish and all fish products. She showed that when she went into a restaurant and they would point out the items she could eat.
  14. Cruise lines are never responsible for advising passengers of visa requirements. The safest thing to do would go to the consulate page for each country you are going to and check the requirements yourself. if a visa is not required you won’t have any issues boarding.
  15. This is a holiday cruise during a school break. The big party cruises are typically long weekends at cheaper times of year. I think you'll see alot of families and children. Not a ton of drunk adults. No, Norwegian isn't worth $2,000 over carnival. Whether there are different costs, it really depends on what paramters your NCL cruise is. If you just start clicking through a NCL booking it will typically add on a drink package, specialty dining package, shore excursion credit, and wifi. But you are paying for those things. It's really hard to tell what you get from that booking site. If you book through NCL it's a lot easier. For your cruise with a balcony room you get 6,000. But the open bar and specialty dining fees are optional This would get you free drinks for everyone in your party plus one specialty meal. Some websites have cruise only pricing that is less.
