  1. so I usually only go to the mdr about 3 times during the cruise. I usually eat at one of the specialty restaurants 3-4 times and there is at least one day I have a late lunch because of a full port day so I just grab something small at the buffet whenever I get a little hungry. So should I be making mtd reservations in advance and then just cancelling on the nights I go elsewhere? That seems like it would make things more difficult for the staff. It sounds like mtd on Royal is nothing like it is on CCL or NCL.now. I have done mtd on RCL before covid and don't remember having any problems and I didn't make any advanced reservations. After reading this thread, I am very uncertain what to do for my upcoming cruise.
  2. I am confused by these posts. This fall will be my first cruise on RCL since before covid but I have been on CCL 8 times since then. I choose my time dining always so I can eat whenever I feel like it. So why would you need to book in advance? How do I know what time I will feel like eating three months from now? On CCL I just use the app that day to request a table and most times get notified my table is ready in less than 10 minutes How is mtd different on Royal?
  3. I tried many of them on my last cruise in April. Most of them are great. They taste like well balanced cocktails, not the sugar bombs you usually get when you ask for a mocktail. They would not be mistaken for a full octane cocktail, but I liked them enough to buy some of the Lyres non alcoholic spirits online when I got home.
  4. Haven't sailed Royal since before covid. In the past, I haven't enjoyed the nonalcoholic "mocktails" offered because they seem to be pure sugar. In my recent cruises on other lines I have found non alcoholic wine available and even the nonalcoholic spirits offered in Alchemy martini bar. Does Royal offer either of these? When I googled it I found only the sugary mocktails. Also, can I bring nonalcoholic wine as my carryon bottle? I don't personally care for beer so that's a no go.
  5. Was on the Legend in April.-the cruise director announced adult game night and specifically said this was previously known as the Quest.. It took place in the comedy lounge. Unfortunately, I fell asleep and missed it, so no verification on how similar it was to the old Quest.
  6. Hate 'em. Waste of money. Too shady and claustrophobic.
  7. I have always got cash on the Legend but I have never received over $1000, so not sure what happens over that amount.
  8. So if I bring my own, does it matter if they're in the checked luggage or carryon?
  9. It may seem silly but even with the abundance of food available onboard, I find the thing I miss the most while cruising is food with crunch such as potato chips, hard taco shells, crackers, nuts, etc, or even some crunchy vegetables. I find that pretty much all the food is the same mushy texture- although I am fine with the flavor. I cruise 3-4 times a year usually on the smaller Carnival ships, with a few rcl and ncl thrown in. The only things crunchy I can find consistently are the potato sticks on Guy's fixin bar and sometimes some nuts at breakfast with the cereals. Can I just bring a bag of chips and some nuts? If so, in the carryon or checked luggage? If not, any suggestions for crunchy things available on board? Thanks for your help.
  10. I vote for 4K. I like the odd ones near the front of the ship. 4109 in Dec was great! Easy up to lido and spa and down to the casino. Far enough from the noise of the shows but close enough that I could slip in the balcony on 4 at the last minute and still get a seat and leave easily if I wasn't into the show. Deck one is too noisy for me even with the better view and is a long way to go for the lido.
  11. This info is pre covid so not sure if it will still be helpful. When cruising from Tampa I would always have a late afternoon flight so I would go to the Aquarium that was right next to port where thy would store your luggage as a perk so you didn't have to lug it through the Aquarium while you're seeing the exhibits. Then across the street to one of several restaurants for lunch. By that time, tip the attendant back at the Aquarium to get your luggage back and on to the airport. A painless way to spend the few hours between disembarkation and the flight home.
  12. It is a 10 min talk about rules (not standing on reef, touching coral, and sealife, etc) and explaining the different spots to snorkel and what to see where., and where the shallow and deep areas are. Think of it as an orientation to the location.
  13. Paradise Cove is the only thing there, not sure if we are allowed to give specific links (deadmansreef.com) but if not just google Paradise Cove, Bahamas
  14. I have been to Paradise Cove in Freeport multiple times, as recently as Dec 22, many times from the Pride and a few on the Legend. The snorkeling is great there. It is a small place with kayaks, snorkeling and beach. There are bathrooms and lockers and a snack shack with food and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Some ships have excursions there, but in Dec on the Legend it wasn't offered, so I booked directly with the resort as I had several times in the past. All the times I have been there it was always the last stop and a short day- no problems at all. If you book with the resort, they pick you up at the pier and return you there in plenty of time for ships boarding but not a lot of time to shop- so shop before the excursion if you want to shop. If you book through the resort, there are several packages depending on what you want to do while you're there. I have my own snorkeling equipment, so I book the beach package since it includes beach chair rental. Sometimes there are also ladies offering massages on the beach but not always. It is a natural cove so unless there is a storm it is very calm. As far as the snorkeling goes there are large rocks a distance from shore where there are big fish, eagle rays , small colorful fish, lobsters etc. I am a senior female, and I can swim out there fine but if you are a hesitant swimmer, you can sometime pay for a small boat to take you out. But there are also several hundred large reef balls close to shore where even small children and nonswimmers can see lots of small tropical fish. But my favorite thing to see there is the turtles, there are lots of turtles in the grass between the reef balls and the distant rocks. It is my favorite place to snorkel in the Bahamas, very peaceful and lots to see underwater. I will be back again on the Legend in April.
  15. I just got off the legend I was on a b2b- 7days then 8 days but couldn't get the same cabin. The first cabin was freezing until we reached the 80- degree weather on the third day and then freezing again on the way back. I complained on the first day. I was told by both guest services and the maintenance people that the legend did not have heat in the cabins. The maintenance people did something in the ceiling that they said would raise the temperature of the a/c. It was so cold I had to have 2 extra blankets just to try and fall asleep, after their fix, one extra blanket would suffice. When I got to the new cabin (on a different deck), I asked the steward for an extra blanket right away and he told me my new cabin was the hottest cabin- he was sweating whenever he had to clean in there. He was right in that it was much warmer than my first cabin. I really only needed the blanket on the first and last days when it was 30-40 degrees outside. However, all the public areas were very cold both weeks, I always had to wear a sweater while we were in The Bahamas and a coat on the trip down and back. I have been on this itinerary multiple times in Dec on the Pride and not had any issues with the temperature.
  16. I booked under a casino offer which included OBC ad Funplay. If I take the upsell offer that is offered in my cruise planner will that affect the Funplay and/or OBC that I received when booking the original offer? Thank for your responses.
  17. I have taken all the ship's snorkeling excursions for Nassau and found them very mediocre. So last time I went I researched and bought a day pass for Melia on Cable Beach, the resort was great but the no one was allowed in the water due to high surf so they refunded my money, but by the time I got back to the ship too late to do something else. Fast foward through my 3 covid cancelled cruises, I'm on a b2b in December with a stop each week in Nassau. Any suggestions for beach snorkeling? The only day pass I see for a hotel near Cable is Baha Mar which is for a water park and is $160 which is too expensive as I have no interest in the water park. Can I just take a taxi to Cable Beach or do you need to have a pass from one of the hotels there? As I am travelling alone, I need to have a somewhat popuIated beach since I have no dive buddy. I am willing to take an excursion if the snorkeling is good. I am looking to go somewhere different each week but I have no interest in sightseeing or just laying on a beach. Thanks for your help.
  18. I have had several things happen. Reroute to different port, skip ports, cruise 200 miles away and "wait it out" thus skipping all but one port, have to leave port within in 1 hr of arriving (that was Grand Turk, they blew the emergency horn to get everyone back on board), cut cruise short and return to homeport (fcc ), and changing order of ports visited. Still had a great time on all, although the one I ended up with 6 seadays was a little boring until I won a jackpot in the casino! You never know what might happen, just be determined to enjoy the ride.
