  1. I am a smoker and have had a balcony a few times and NEVER smoked on it. I think you are worrying about an issue that may never happen. If you run into it, then politely ask them to not smoke on their balcony. Most of us smokers are courtesy and don't break the rules. If they get rude then just call security. But I wouldn't stress something that hasn't even happened and probably won't. Like I said. I have never smoked on a balcony. My last cruise was very rocky and cold and windy and rainy and I still went to the smokers area on deck 10 or deck 6 where it was permitted. And my neighbors were almost never on their balcony so I could have smoked but again I am respectful of the rules and that my neighbors may not like the smell.

  2. And you are extremely entitled to your opinion. But I didn't want the OP to cancel as a result of it. [emoji1]

I agree on canceling they need to read all the good and bad. I read both and was a little concerned but the deal we got was taxes and grats only so we said what the heck might as well try it. I don't regret trying it for the price because now I know I wouldn't do that ship again but I knew what I could possibly be getting into by the reviews and again no regrets for the cheap price. We made the most of it and met some awesome people as I always do on my cruises. Lol. In the end even if it's a bad ship or service or whatever, it is still what you Make of it. People can make bad situations worse by letting it ruin their vacation. That is not me. I try to have fun in any situation. After all. I am on vacation [emoji3]. My favorite ship so far is the navigator. I have been on the allure, navigator , freedom , independence and now the empress. Navigator to me is perfect amount of people, activities, food, service etc.

  3. And yet most other reviews would report very different experiences from jktheangel's. And they would say that your preferred cruise experience, stated in your original post, is exactly what Empress delivers.

Please read more reviews before cancelling your cruise based on this one response.

    :)

As I stated, it was our groups opinion on the food. The service and clogged toilets is factual. A lot of reviews point this out and yes there just as many good reviews as bad. I know that the sailing before ours is when they stopped the lobster and a few other things and some pointed out. We could of also had worse service etc because it was a cruise mostly filled with casino offers and not full fare paying guests. I only know of the ships of RC that I have taken this was by far the worse all around. Again our opinion

    Have a great day

  4. I just got off a few weeks ago and the activities are lacking big time. The service was not great or the food. Luckily we met lots of people and had fun. There was 1 night out at the pool where they played music but not many showed up. I personally will never sail the empress again. Oh and the plumbing is horrible. Just a personal opinion though.

  5. Just a personal opinion. I just got off the empress 2 weeks ago. I would never sail that ship again even if it was free. The service was horrible. The food cold and boring. Most public toilets were always clogged. Very few activities to do. I would do the 4 night any day. Look up Mr Sanchos is Cozumel. All you can eat and drink for 55 per person and it has great food service. It's right on the beach. We always have a blast there. Enjoy your cruise

  6. I wasn't sure if they would automatically charge your card for the remaining balance if you did not show up. Or if you needed to contact them in advance if you wanted to cancel.

Losing the $5 deposit is not a big deal.

That's a good question. I never thought of that. Maybe so since they do have your CC number I have always made it so that thought never crossed my mind but it will now if I ever have to cancel which I hope I don't.

  7. I do believe they have snorkel and I think it's $5 to hold in case you don't return the items. I also believe they have kayak and jet skis but I believe at an additional cost. If you go to mr sanchos website they list the things they have to rent. I always just hang out at the beach or pool and eat and drink. Lol

  8. Hello~

There will be 4 of us planning on going to Mr. Sanchos (the AI side) in January with the Pride. 2 of us like to be beach bums and 2 like to be busy. It is a ladies trip and we are all adults. So, is there enough at Mr. Sanchos for the busy bodies to stay active? For the beach bums, is there shade on the beach? I want my time in the sun, but I also don't want to be a lobster for the remainder of the cruse!

    TIA!

Yes there is plenty of beach on the AI side and shade. As for things to keep busy. I am not sure what you mean. There are water toys for extra cost. There is some shopping huts and the pools where people just hang out and drink. They also have some water equipment for the ocean. I hope that helps

  9. We all have different comfort levels, I understand. But if someone is comfortable in asking personal questions to someone they don't know or if their curiousity justifies asking questions in earshot of others....then are there any questions that cross the line?

If a man seated two seats away from a women at a bar on a ship asks " well what kind of sex do you like?" Is his curiousity justification to ask? Because in my opinion, asking me if I am gay is the same thing? If all the people at the bar stared at the women to await her response.....should she answer, should she not let it offend her? Might she feel discomfort the next time she walks into that bar and sees the same people?

Does it come down to its all determined by the questioner? Is all fair game. Is it me who is in the wrong for being offended ?

I could understand asking questions in private once you spend time getting to know someone, but out in a public setting still seems inappropriate to me....

But thanks to this thread I have now come up with a response that works for me.

When asked if I am gay or am I queer I will just respond by asking ...are you a homophobe. Their response will help dictate how I continue in the conversation. I still will feel uncomfortable with the situation and will have to waste time dealing with my feelings. Maybe total insensitivity is the way of the world these days.....anyone can justify anything. I guess this is where I get flamed.

I would not flame you or anyone else for your thoughts and feelings. We are all entitled to have them. I only suggest that we all listen and learn and maybe our feelings will change or we can learn to deal better with situations we are not comfortable talking about. We are all differant and there is no wrong or right answer to the question of a personal feeling. Have a great day

  10. Nicely put... just to reiterate on one thing I posted earlier. I wouldn't expect or suggest anyone's opening line to be "are you gay" would be ok. But during a conversation as long as the intentions weren't to offend, personally I can't see it as any different to asking someone if they are married.

Completely understand. I would never ask personal questions as an opening line but I guess there are some that will. And those that do probably are not asking because they want to get to know the person. Also I must add. I had a blast in cancun. Although swinging isn't my thing, it never bothered me seeing it and I was never uncomfortable even though as I learned I could be a "unicorn". I am actually looking at going again next year. The best group of diversified people I have ever been around. Have a great day

  11. Ok I am sorry. I feel a need to put in my view. I am a straight female who grew up with a gay female friends and as I got older made friends with both gay men and woman and trans and bi's. Needless to say I have no judgements on anyone unless they have harmed me. Anyhow from my perspective. When I meet people and I sense they are gay. I do not ask to confirm but if we are having conversations then yes I do ask. I never once thought it would offend or make them not know how to answer. Thank you for that lesson. I don't ever ask any question to anyone to be rude or noisy. I am naturally a person who likes to understand others thoughts and get to know who they are regardless of sexual orientation. A recent example is I went to cancun in August to an adults resort. I knew there would be gays, straights, couples , singles , every race. Etc. I didn't realize there would be many swingers. I met several couples and they were all great. Yes I asked questions. Why? To educate myself. To understand their perspective. I learned so much and am so grateful they all willingly answered and shared more than I asked. I also answer any questions people ask. I am not ashamed or afraid or think people are noisy. They are Learning who I am as a person. Why I am who I am. Basically what I am saying is please remember some of us ask to learn. We don't judge. And I do not tolerate hateful words to someone regardless of who they are, unless of course they have caused harm to me then I may call them a hole. Thank you for letting me jump in with my thoughts.

  12. You can reserve for $5 per person for all inclusive. The total is $55 but that's with alcohol and food so with a teenager maybe not. They are about 20 min drive from RC port and when we went in April the taxi was about $20 up to 4 people. Same price 1-4 and the prices are listed at the taxi stand. It is safe and fun. They have water slide things in the ocean that you can pay for. It's a great fun safe place.

  13. I have been a few times. I was just there again in April and will be there next month. You can eat from their buffet or you can order whatever you want from the menu and as much as you want. Food and alcohol never ends until you say no or they close. They limit the amount of people on the AI side so reserve for $5 pp if you decide to go. It's an awesome place with great service and food and never empty drinks. Bring an extra 10-20 for your waiter if you choose. They work their butts off to keep you happy.

  14. There is smoking on the port side of the pool deck (left looking forward). Have not noticed elsewhere. The casino air - other than being warm - seems smoke free. But it's so small, not sure how you would split it. My friend told me it was 2 level casino. I guess if you consider 7 steps a floor it is :) more like a split level ranch. :) they were popular in the 80s. Lol. But seriously, for some reason the center of the casino is 7 steps below the rest of it. To be fair the ceiling height of deck 5 is higher so maybe they wanted to make it 7 steps easier to get to the casino. :)

    Thank you
