I got out of here for about three hours today, to take "mom" to an appointment, as well as lunch at Longhorn Steakhouse... My filet turned out tough and chewy, so I'm not ended up erasing the picture. I'm going to take a walk over to Home Depot after work, to see if they rent aluminum ramps, otherwise I'm going to have to build one hopefully out of scrap lumber behind my old job... I also need to pick up some new windshield wiper blades at Pep Boys, which is over near Home Depot... Sounds like a pretty exciting afternoon... At least work is almost over, and I haven't hardly done anything here today...

Maybe ask the bike shop if they have a ramp you can use?  Also, if your apartment has a little hill near the parking lot, or a loading dock/area . . .

Some birds, like starlings, rob nests from other birds. They'll even kill chicks currently residing in a nest. It's a bird eat bird world out there.

That reminds me of a book (about some of the first computer hacking, actually) called The Cuckoo's Egg (by Clifford Stoll, 1989).  The premise for the book's title was that the real-life cuckoo bird does not lay its eggs in its own nest. Instead, she waits for any kind of other bird to leave its nest unattended. The mother cuckoo then sneaks in, lays her egg in the unoccupied nest, and sneaks out, leaving her egg to be hatched by another mother.

Can you give a small example of the psychology pointers?

    Sure!

Behavior chain:  Trigger > Thought > Action > Consequence

The most common "It's Time to Eat" triggers are (1) Food (Environmental); (2) Emotions (Emotional), and (3) Time (Psychological)

    Some tips for each one:

    (1) fill your environment with positive food triggers (reusable water bottle, fruit or cut-up veggies, non-perishable quick eats like canned fish, nuts and seeds, etc.)

    (2) Replace eating with healthy actions to cope with emotional triggers (close your eyes and meditate for 1-2 minutes, go outside and get a breath of fresh air, phone a friend for support, cuddle with your pet)

    (3) Break the script -- Eat when/because you're hungry, and recognize when you're reaching satiety before you actually do.

Using why you eat what you eat to change your habits and your environment.

2 main determinants -- internal factors (cultural beliefs, personal biases, dietary restrictions, dietary preferences, taste, appetite, hydration, etc) and external factors (availability, cost, convenience, other people, marketing, presentation, etc.).  Noom had some suggestions for managing the external factors, like 'nurturing your environment -- keep nutritious foods in your environment'

How to detect and prevent "fog eating" and "storm eating" -- eating without thinking, and eating instead of thinking.

It's so hard to narrow it down to just a few examples.  It (Noom) allows you to save things in your "Library," and I find myself going back to lots of things I saved in my "early Noom days.  The above sound really dry and boring, now that I reread them -- I think part of the exciting part for me was experiencing them every day, as I worked through developing new food thought processes and habits for myself.  That element of support and progression was really important to me.

    Hope this helps!

Again, we had a customer wander in at two minutes till closing time today... We helped them, and got them on their way eventually, and I headed straight home for my afternoon walk. I'm determined to try and lose about ten pounds before memorial day. I heard a story on the radio today, saying that the average person gained between twenty and thirty pounds during the pandemic. Luckily, I only put on ten, but I don't like going to the beach, and having my "love handles" flopping around. My entire life, I've been able to eat and drink as much as I wanted, and never gain a pound. Nowadays, I think that all that stuff is starting to catch up with me. Of course, I say this right before I head out to consume probably a two thousand calorie meal. Good thing that I only had carrots and celery for lunch...

I tried out Noom (their ads are on TV) and it has really worked well for me.  It's more psychology and physiology than just "a diet."  You can try it for two weeks for free, and then set your desired price if you choose to continue.

I saw something yesterday about people getting cancellation letters for three NCL ships into like September or something. Not sure why.

As a result of fleet redeployment, the following voyages have
    been canceled:
    · Norwegian Encore with embarkation dates prior to October 28, 2021
    · Norwegian Jewel with embarkation dates prior to October 6, 2021
    · Norwegian Jade with embarkation dates prior to November 4, 2021

So, it looks like my next cruise, Norwegian to Bermuda in August, is about the be canceled - it's showing the dreaded "Default Itinerary" message.  That will be three cancellations for this particular cruise.  I'll probably try to move it to the end of October or beginning of November, and if that doesn't fly, then to next year to Canada, perhaps.  It's kind of tricky to keep moving this one, as it was a land-based casino offer, so comes with restrictions.

Off to get my second Covid shot this afternoon, and hopefully, my hair guy is also working this afternoon, as both the clinic and hair place are in the same mall area.  And since I've only had one true haircut since last February (2020)!, I really need one.

Also, looking up - warm weather here this week - should hit 62 or 63 again today!

I got a letter from NCL as well, for my 3-day Pacific Coastal in October 2021.  It's had the Default Itinerary message for a couple of months; I was holding out hope that maybe they'd change its departure port (it was Vancouver, BC) and work around the PVSA, but I guess not.  Just put a courtesy hold on Norwegian Joy for January 2023 (Panama Canal).  That one might go . . .

I took a ride over to the owners condo to help bring up some packages... When we pulled into the parking space, I was checking out my motorcycle, and something looked funny. Upon closer inspection, I saw that the rear tire was completely flat. So, now I'm going to have to look into replacing it, plus how to get it to the shop. Hopefully, it'll fit in the back of our work van. If not, then I'm not sure how I'm going to go about it...

Rent a Uhaul Pickup truck for a day / couple of hours?  They're usually pretty reasonable.  Or, some dealerships/shops offer pickup . . .

The fish tacos were AMAZING and I ate BOTH of them!  Fish was cod and fresh!

We started out as weekend campers.  Our primary vacation would be cruising for a week and often 3-4 days cruises.  We were fortunate enough when we had a house we lived within 90 minutes of Port Canaveral and a few more hours to Ft Lauderdale or Miami.  We cruised a lot but when we weren't cruising we'd take off on Friday night and head up to Ocala for camping or over to Crystal River for camping.  It was Gary & I and our two dogs.  We loved the relaxation of the camping and I'd spend the day at the pool etc.  We hated having to leave to go home on Sunday :-(.

We started meeting folks who were living this RV lifestyle full time and we started researching and reading blogs of people who were living this lifestyle.  The most important aspect, IMO, if you aren't rich, and we aren't, is to be debt free.

I'd worked in construction my entire career and Gary was a service manager for both Peterbilt and Freightliner....we both had stressful and demanding jobs.  We were both trying to make it to 65 before retiring but one day we just looked at each other and said, why are we doing this, having 2 days off a week just wasn't cutting it for us.

I started downsizing "stuff" in our house, I figured if I got something for it, that was better than nothing.  I sold so much little stuff on FB Marketplace.

The big decision was our house.  We had built our dream home in 2004 and were we going to rent it or sell it.  After all the research we opted to sell for several reasons....and we have NO regrets.  So to answer your question we are homeless, other than our RV, our truck, my car, our side by side.  We did purchase an RV lot that we own outright in Silver Springs FL in a 55+ RV Resort.  We currently have it rented to snowbirds.  We do plan on selling it hopefully the end of 2021 so we can purchase land here in Yuma, AZ.  We currently rent a private lot here in Yuma with all utilities and a washer and we love it here.

This all started back in 1999 when we rode our Harleys to Stugis and we always wanted to return.  We listed our home for sale in May 2015, closed on the sale in Sept 2015 and moved fulltime into our RV on our Lot.  I retired in March 2016 and Gary retired in August 2015.  Gary is 2 years younger than me!

Anyway, I knew that the first summer I wanted to spend near my mom in Massachusetts so we looked online for a workamping job in her area.  We were offered 4 jobs and we chose the one that was the best fit for us.  It was a great summer.  First retirement year we lived on my SS, Gary was too young to collect, and our workamping $$, which is not much, but we got by.  It was an adjustment but now 5 years into it we actually save money each month.

Then we decided we wanted to head back out west after wintering on our lot in Florida and we found summer jobs April-Sept in Custer, SD - we did that for 2 summers.  Then we decided we did not want to return to Florida so we rented out our lot and we've had no problem finding renters!  We love it out west and we love South Dakota - we then found a workamping job at an RV Resort in Hermosa, SD and we are returning there this April for our 3rd summer.  It keeps us active and we love the jobs we do.  Gary works outside taking care of the park and escorting guests.  I work in the office registering guests and taking reservations on the phone along with lots of other little jobs.  We have two days a week off and we are out riding our side by side in the woods or in Custer State Park.

This lifestyle is NOT for everyone but we love it for now and our friends that we met up with in Lake Havasu City are in their 70's and still living the lifestyle and workamping.

We make time each year to visit family back on the east coast.  Last year we had the opportunity to cruise for the first time out of San Diego on Holland after 25+ cruises with Carnival.  We look forward to being able to cruise next winter hopefully.

I'm an open book so feel free to ask if I missed everything and I apologize if I got too wordy, one of my shortcomings!

This is our home on wheels.  11' garage where we carry our side by side and it has a back patio as well. The rest is all living area and we are TV geeks we have a 50" TV - the RV has a total of 3 TVs!

Thanks so much for sharing all of that, @Hogladyrider!  We're considering a move to Mesquite, NV (no taxes on retirement pay) and being "sunbirds;" staying in Mesquite (or somewhere near) during the fall/winter/spring, and then migrating North for the summer.  We used to have a Raptor Toyhauler, with a RzR, but pretty much departed from that lifestyle and are focusing on riding our bike/trike.  We have a 32' Class C Sunseeker, and pull my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee behind.  My stepdaughter spent last summer in Phoeniz/Scottsdale, and was miserable in the summer (she lives in a 28' TT).  It sounds like your AZ-SD rotation is ideal!

A cruise friend sent this to me yesterday...we've never met...but were on the same cruise board for years...I used to watch The Lone Ranger on TV....and have always liked Glen Campbell...I'm thinking I saw him at a dance club in the sixties before he was famous playing guitar in a country music band in San Diego...I remember we laughed at them...sorry...but at that point in my life I was totally into Motown and rock and roll...not county!...he was a talented musician....Hope you all can see this...wanted to share..I appreciate the old style country music now.

That was AWESOME!!!  Thank you so much for sharing it!

Getting used to booking "other adventures"...with so many cruises cancelled...and no guarantee when it will start up again.

So, I have the 2+ weeks in California wine country booked now for end of next month, Maine for 3.5 months this summer, (renting 5 different houses),  Sept. and October in the "land yacht" along the Florida Panhandle beach areas, and now yesterday just booked a week long tour of another of our favorite wine regions (Lake Chelan, Washington state) for early November.

Worried I am getting to used to "land lubber travels".  😮  😞

Maybe...just maybe Bucky and I will be "on the sea" again...finally....in December??  🤔

Oh, you're coming to my neck of the woods!  Lake Chelan is wonderful -- will you be renting a car?  You'll have just missed the crush season, but will have lots of choices :-).

Okay. Yeah I was looking at that one but I ended up booking the Raddison Resort at the Port. A lot of people on my cruise are staying there. I’m at $146 refundable for that one.

We've stayed at Resort at the Port a couple of times.  Try Zachary's (right next door) for food -- it was really good!

  14. Had some wind therapy today -- 160 miles through the Palouse hills and valleys.  Saw a huge osprey nest, with mom or dad flying in with lunch for the little ones.  Winter wheat -- well, spring wheat, I guess -- is coming in, coating the fields in green velvet, and the streams and creeks gushing with the beginnings of snow melt from the Blue Mountains.  Stopped for lunch at the Whiskey Canyon Sports Bar, and managed to down just half of my Reuben; my DH made more headway on his chili burger.  Then a gorgeous run through the Wallula Gap along the Columbia River and back home.  Took Crush (that's my bike's name :-) ) over to the HD dealership to get the rear brake checked, so managed to get a picture of the test ride.  Really nice day -- cruising through the Washington (and Oregon) countryside.

I always wonder how that happens. I use a cheap slim case that just has the raised edge so if you drop it on the ground the screen doesn’t touch it. And for the screen protector I like the old clear stick On’s to guard against scratches. I’ve never scratched or cracked a screen and I’ve dropped a couple face down on concrete.

I see what some people do to their work phones and it looks like they hit them with a baseball bat.

I know!  I have a Speck case -- I really like them as they're easy to hold onto.  Plus I put a pop socket on my phone -- makes it even easier to maintain my grip.

Do we have a vaccine preference around here? I’m hoping to get one before Cancun and with it just 4 1/2 weeks away, I’m running out of time for a two shot deal. My dad is dead set against J&J because it didn’t have the 95% effectiveness. It may be my best bet with 1 shot though.

My husband and I both got Pfizer; minimal side effects for either of us. I had a slightly sore arm each time (more like a bruised feeling than real pain); he had a bit of a headache with the second dose, but otherwise just the same slightly sore arm.  With the three week interval between shots, you might be cutting it close, though.

    Good Morning & Happy Saturday!!

    Sunny & 5F 😎

Goal for today is to continue the process of deciding where all the "stuff" from Anchorage goes...
Much of it will be repacked & inventoried then stored in the crawl space, until the Garage/Addition is complete...
No basement here - rather a 5' tall crawl space, reached via the laundry room...

Stays dry & approx. 55F year round.
First on the list - hanging clothes - sorting through the clothes already in the closets & the ones relocated, clothes heading to storage will be wrapped & tied in clear bags & hung on the bars in the crawlspace...

Donated approx. 6 boxes/bags of stuff from Anchorage - now trying to decide whether to donate additional now - or hold off to later...

Crawl space = wine (or beer!) cellar!

So,,, why make a duplicate posting on a 2-year old thread. The information in this thread has nothing to do with the current COVID cancellation environment. It is irrelevant.

NCL and all of the cruise lines have been working very hard with the state of Alaska to salvage part of the 2021 season. Law makers are working to help facilitate this. So,,, while there is a potential for some cruises to operate, it is dependent upon either Canada or the US to change their current policies. NCL and other cruise lines are only cancelling cruises month-by-month, hoping to operate in Alaska and around the world.

Normally, the Default Itinerary Name means that your cruise has been cancelled. If it also asks you to make a payment, that means that all of the money from your reservation has been removed from the reservation and is in the process of being refunded. Usually, by Monday or Tuesday, NCL will send you a personal email on the terms and conditions of the cancellation,,, and maybe make a public announcement. It takes time to cancel thousands of reservations.

I disagree with the proposition that @Seany527's original post is irrelevant to today's circumstances.  I appreciate the historical perspective that @SouthLyonCruiser has brought to this topic by posting on this thread, especially in terms of what the "Default" message might mean.

While the "Default Itinerary Name" seems to be associated most of the time with cruises that are in the process of being cancelled, in several cases it has been/is being applied to cruise itineraries that are in a state of flux. For example, my October 2021 3-night Pacific Coastal on Norwegian Encore, booked prior to the Canadian ports closure, has had the "Default Itinerary Name" for the past month -- while it is no longer bookable, it has not been cancelled and I have not been prompted to make any payments, final or otherwise.  Its original itinerary (Vancouver-Victoria-San Francisco) will most likely be changed, if not cancelled entirely.  I'm obviously hoping that it's the former, but that's why I appreciate the historical perspective that this thread represents.

When my now 25 year old daughter was in first grade, her handwriting was atrocious (still is). We asked her teacher about it during a parent teacher conference.  She told us not to worry as they don't really focus on handwriting anymore and everyone would be using keyboards.  That was sometime around 2002!

When I taught 8th Grade Language Arts and History (2010-2015), and as an elementary school librarian, I pointed out to my students that they would need to be able to sign their name on their Learner's Permit -- I had quite a few coming in at lunchtime and after school for "cursive lessons!"
