The new cruise ship for Royal Caribbean International (USA), Spectrum of the Seas, will probably leave Papenburg on Tuesday, March 19 2019 to be conveyed on the river Ems to Eemshaven (Netherlands). The ship is planned to arrive in Eemshaven on Thursday morning. Later on the ship will go through several days of technical and nautical sea trials on the North Sea.

The Ems barrier will be helping Spectrum of the Seas to pass through the river Ems, a procedure which will be kept as short as possible. The following schedule has been drawn up for the conveyance of the new cruise ship, with changes possible at short notice due to the weather and tidal conditions:

    Tuesday, March 19, 2019
Approx. 06.30 pm: ship in waiting position (Papenburg)
Approx. 07.00 pm: ship passes sea lock (Papenburg)

    Wednesday, March 20, 2019
Approx. 01.30 am: ship passes Friesenbrücke (Weener)
Approx. 06.00 am: ship passes the Jann Berghaus bridge (Leer)
Approx. 10.15 am: arrival at the river Ems barrier (Gandersum)
Approx. 11.45 am: ship passes the Ems barrier
Approx. 01.15 pm: ship passes Emden

!! All details are subject to the wind, weather and water levels and are therefore without guarantee. Timings can be changed at short notice!!

Once again, a team of river pilots from Emden will be responsible for manoeuvring the ship to Eemshaven. The pilots on the river Ems also looked after the MEYER WERFT ships during their passage to the North Sea in previous years. The whole team trained the conveyance at the computerised simulator in Wageningen (Netherlands) to be better prepared for the task.

Spetrum of the Seas will proceed in reverse up the river Ems to the North Sea. This approach has proven successful in the past as it makes it easier to manoeuvre the ship. Two tugs will be providing assistance in the process.

The cruise ship with 169,300 GRT is one of the largest cruise ships to be built in Germany with capacity for about 4,284 passengers. After completing the technical and nautical sea trials on the North Sea, the ship will be handed over to the owners on April 19.

LLOYD!!! Usually I love your posts. But now I’m quite stressed out. Can you get any further info as what this means for those of us on the inaugural sailing out of Barcelona on April 18?

I agree have not seen the release on a Monday...Tuesdays I have though.  Keeping an eye out 🙂

I'm onboard Jewel right now and asked at Next Cruise if she'd heard any whispers....she said she heard maybe things would be loaded up tonight and ready to go tomorrow. Fingers crossed as it's our last day tomorrow and I've got an appointment booked just in case!

It worked.  I was able to open it, but only after downloading it.  Before some things would just open in a new window.

I lived in Turkey for 27 years, and if I remember correctly, my sister would book my cruises here in the US, but use my credit card with my Turkish address to pay for it. Not a big deal at all.

Today in the German news is an article about delays at Meyer Werft. Todays hand over of the AIDAnova has been delayed until later this month with the first cruise now Dec 2nd. First cruise should have been today.

Another newspaper talks about delays concerning the Spectrum of the Seas and the Spirit of Discovery too.

Oh, well I don't like that news! I hope Spectrum is on time. Please keep us posted!

I don't get any notifications on a daily basis -  my preferred and selected notification ... I'm not sure why this is the case.

I'd like to be able to click on my name and see all the threads I'm subscribed to as I could prior to this latest change.  That was a good feature IMO.

Finally, why did CC have to change?  What was wrong with the previous model?

Click below for detailed, step by step instructions on how to see all the threads you're subscribed to, and all of your threads with unread posts in bold.

No, I'm not looking for the "Next" unread topic, but the "Previous" one.  This way I read in the order in which they were posted starting with the oldest first.  "Next Unread Topic" takes you to the newest post which is the opposite of the way I used Cruise Critic previously.

When you're in a forum, on the right under the blue Start new topic you'll see Sort By. Select Custom, and under Sort Direction you can choose Ascending (oldest first) or Descending (newest first).

    Does that help?

The list of forums (not threads) you follow can be found by clicking on your username, then "Manage followed content" and then "Cruise Critic Community". However currently there is no way to tell when a particular forum has been updated.

Another possible way to read all the forums you follow is to create a custom Activity Stream. Use the procedure described in lighthousemom's doc, but choose "Following : Everything" and "Content type : Topics", then using the little wheel appearing next to "Topics" choose your forums of interest. However then the stream features all topics from these forums, all mixed up, which is absolutely not ideal. So far, as I can tell, these are the only ways to follow whole forums.

Do the steps I outlined in my document and you will only need to go to your bookmark to see this info.
