  1. They know not only that you're a tourist (and in most places that's obvious), but that you're a tourist with limited time in port.
  2. Guy's Burgers and a Funship Special. (Even if Guy's doesn't have mushrooms and bacon at the toppings bar anymore.😃)
  3. Different location. The store from Big was on Fifth Avenue and closed some time ago.
  4. We sailed two cruises this summer, two different lines (one Carnival), both with info uploaded to Verifly. No one asked to see either our cards or the app with our data.
  5. I hope you enjoy Phantom! We've seen it twice, once on Broadway and once a tour production. It's not my favorite musical story-wise but the special effects are really good and the first notes of the organ music in the overture get the adrenaline going.
  6. We trust you. It's a lot of the other tourists that create problems. In fairness, though, NYers turn into tourists when they go on vacation. My complaint about folks stopping in the middle of the sidewalk to take a picture? There were a fair number of NYers on Magic two weeks ago doing the same thing on the pier. 🙄 Some years ago I was at the Penn Station stop on the Seventh Avenue subway when I saw an older couple off to the side, looking confusedly at a map. I went up to them and asked, "Where do you want to go?" They were trying to get to the ferry for the Statue of Liberty. I figured the easiest route for them was the 1 train downtown to the end - not the fastest, but the easiest. If you want the fastest, you'd take the 2 or 3 train to Chambers Street, then cross the platform to the 1 train - but I figured I'd just add to their confusion by making that suggestion.
  7. I really enjoyed your review. We're sailing Pride to Norway next year. Sailing without kids in tow is different, but enjoyable in a new way. Like you, though, I'm hoping for one more "luggage-palooza."😃
  8. We just did this excursion two weeks ago. We had a great time. Photos and discussion are in my review: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2875107-carnival-magic-nyc-august-3-11-2022-the-last-of-joe-farcus’-designs/.
  9. Just to clarify: The National 9/11 Museum and Memorial is open; it's the 9/11 Tribute Museum that has closed.
  10. Just for the record, I went to Guy's not once, but twice on this cruise. A lack of bacon and mushrooms wasn't going to stop me.😃
  11. Onions were there, and so were potato sticks. While I was disappointed with what was available, it didn't stop me from going to Guy's twice on this cruise.🙂
  12. Just had Cheers. While we'd never manage 15 alcoholic drinks in a day, including coffee and soda made it worthwhile.
  13. Just underwear, shorts, and tops. Nothing dressy.
  14. Teatime was 3:00-4:00. We arrived at 3 and found the service to be good.
  15. It worked for us last week. Best Platinum perk available.
  16. We had a P/D party on our Magic sailing out of NYC on August 3. We had servers walking around with drinks, and they were plentiful.
  17. We used On Point for our August 3 cruise and used the "free" tests. No problem. We're Eastern time and scheduled the test for 9:30 am; the proctor was in California. We thanked her for the early time.😉
  18. Hope you and Patti enjoy your trip on Legend, Jeff! Bermuda and Canada, correct?
  19. We don't spend time in the casino, but I did get some drinks at the bar. I think it was mostly soccer. I do have a funny story about sports in Red Frog - they were showing Cornhole. Doug Flutie (hi, Buffalo!) was on one team, paired with someone who plays regularly; not sure who was on the other team. Flutie's team won.😃
  20. Looking forward to this, Greg! Just a word about taking the 7 train to Citi Field - it's an interesting cultural experience. You will hear many languages spoken. Queens County is said to be the most culturally diverse county in the US. We took our two younger sons from Grand Central to Citi Field several years ago and they were amazed.
  21. So What’s Next? We’re still working through everything from 2020 and 2021 that had to be rescheduled. As I mentioned at the outset, this cruise replaced a 2020 Carnival Radiance cruise. Next up is a 2023 Norway cruise on Carnival Pride that replaces a 2021 British Isles cruise. And after the cruise on Pride ends, we’ll be spending a few days in England before going to Southampton for a TA on QM2, that replaces a TA we had scheduled with the 2021 Pride cruise. Although our kids are grown and not vacationing with us, we’re not done with Carnival – although I expect that we will start looking at more off-season cruises that are a bit quieter. And I’m not about to say “never,” but other than dining venues I don’t see us using the bells and whistles of the newer, larger ships. We’ll keep an eye on the new(er) Costa ship that is supposed to be sailing out of NYC. Or we might look at sailing out of California – haven’t done that yet. We’re also branching out. Before the pandemic, we spent three weeks on the QM2, which had always been a bucket list trip for me. (If you’re interested in my take on QM2 as a dyed-in-the-wool Carnivore, my post is here: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2684218-a-platinum-carnivore-sails-on-cunard/#comment-58023215). In 2021, with no mainstream cruises available, we took an American Cruise Lines voyage out of Seattle, around the Puget Sound. It’s an older crowd and you really just use the ship as your hotel from one port to another. We enjoyed it enough to book another for 2023 – a Grand New England cruise out of Boston. And another postponed trip we took this year was a Viking River cruise on the Danube. (Timed that one right, as we went before the water levels dropped.) We’ll probably look at another in the future – DH would like to visit the Iberian Peninsula. Bottom line is, Carnival will probably remain our “go to” mainstream line, but there are lots of other places we want to visit. Thanks for reading, if you’ve made it to the end. Happy to answer any questions!
