  1. I didn't say anyone did mention it, but the reality is that Carnival likes to frame their food cuts as for environmental reasons when the reality is that the primary reason is for cost savings.
  2. Except that Carnival cares much less (if at all) if someone bought the wasted food a la carte (bread bowls) vs. got it as complimentary food (taco shell bowls). Most of Carnival's "green consciousness" is just whitewashing to cut expenses.
  3. That timing was because Jubilee is the newest ship and attracts more Platinum and Diamond cruisers, which reduces the number of FTTF slots available. Other than Journeys cruises, where they don't sell it, FTTF is going to open up much sooner on ships that aren't the latest and greatest. With rooms no longer being immediately available upon boarding, and with FTTF priced so high how, I wouldn't worry about it selling out on most older ships.
  4. I try to avoid itineraries with Jamaica altogether after multiple experiences with hostile locals. If I can't avoid an itinerary with Jamaica, I stay on the ship on that port day.
  5. Let's get real; Carnival's obligation is to its shareholders and debtholders. If they felt an obligation to discourage the use of disposable water bottles, they'd stop selling it onboard altogether; instead sell refillable water bottles and install refill stations like airports: and sell bottled water only at the gangway in foreign ports, where passengers might not feel safe drinking the water. But as long as there is more profit to be made selling bottled water than refillable water bottles, Carnival will continue with the status quo.
  6. That has been standard on Carnival and Royal Caribbean for years.
  7. They shouldn't have been let in in the first place. 15 minutes after assigned dining starts, the hostesses are supposed to close the MDR doors and tell latecomers to go eat elsewhere. So the issue was actually with Carnival not following it's own rules. After it happened the second time, I would have spoken to the Maitre'D.
  8. I'll only sail Carnival with a casino offer for a free cabin (they've cut their product to the point that I won't pay to sail them, especially when I also get free casino offers from Royal and Princess). I get interior, oceanview, and balcony casino offers. I believe the last time I got an upsell offer was in 2015. In the 23 cruises since then, and with 5 more booked, I don't think I've received another upsell offer. If you're not going to be happy in anything below a balcony, I suggest booking it at the casino rate because you're not likely to get an upsell offer.
  9. Good to hear. I'm originally from Louisiana and ate at Bayou Cafe last summer. All my courses were pretty big misses with the exception of dessert.
  10. John Heald does not make Carnival policy and has been known to post inaccurate info before. https://help.carnival.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1374/kw/faster to the fun Priority Check-in Upon arrival to the terminal (during your arrival appointment), look for the Priority line to check-in. Yes, often this is not enforced, and FTTF and priority pax are to check in whenever they arrive, but this is not guaranteed. Particularly when the ship arrived into port late and/or boarding started late, the port agents enforce check-in appointment times more strictly.
  11. Or a plane swap in the intermediate city.
  12. And separate (limited) menus with only the alcohol they pay Texas taxes on.
  13. Cheers includes "Specialty coffees and hot tea served in the main dining rooms, specialty restaurants and coffee bars" and doesn't specifically exclude Havana Bar coffee (yet). https://www.carnival.com/help?topicid=1106
  14. Your boarding pass will show FTTF or Priority so the contract employees at the terminal know you have FTTF. Officially, Carnival enforces arrival appointment times. It varies port-to-port, ship-to-ship, and sometimes cruise-to-cruise as to whether they will let you in the terminal to check in before your arrival appointment time. So just be aware if you show up early you may still have to wait until your appointment time (or at least closer to it).
  15. They should be irritated with Princess, not OP, on the ships where they make you order the full dessert instead of just gelato or a simple sundae if you have the Plus or Premium package. Princess is just wasting time, money, and food making a monstrosity of a dessert that most people apparently don't want, when they'll ultimately throw away all the 'extra' ingredients.
  16. Coke (the company) tweaks their beverage formulas, including the sweeteners used, for local tastes in most countries they sell in. It's been a while since I've been to Canada, so I don't recall what a Canadian Diet Coke tastes like, but in most places outside the US Diet Coke/Coke Light tastes more like the Coke Zero than the Diet Coke that we get in the US.
  17. If the ship is sold out and there are no cabins available, what do you expect Princess to be able to do for you? Your original cabin has now been booked by someone else or has filled by an upgrade. Should they kick that person out of that cabin because you didn't cancel your upgrade bid after you were diagnosed with a condition that makes walking painful, at which point you shouldn't have taken a chance on getting assigned a cabin far from an elevator?
  18. "Just" a sandwich is likely going to have meat, cheese, and/or vegetables, all of which are prohibited as fresh/unpackaged/unpreserved food brought ashore. This "just" mentality is the exactly the problem with cruisers today who "just" want to do what's easy, convenient, or pleasing for themselves even when they know it's against the rules. And in doing so they ruin things for everyone else.
  19. 5,000 points is roughly the max I earn on a 7 day cruise. I currently have 10 offers for free inside, oceanview, and balcony cabins.
  20. Just be aware that if it was a souvenir stamp (not an official government stamp) it can invalidate your passport, because your passport is only supposed to be used for official government purposes. Overzealous CBP agents have been known to make an issue of it
  21. It's not powdered. All the "juices" in the Lido deck dispensers are from liquid concentrate and are juice cocktails--water, sugar, flavorings, and minimal actual juice.
  22. I seem to remember the same thing on Mardi Gras last September. Carnival had me ready and willing to pay to eat there (which is 99% of the battle in marketing), but it wasn't open when I wanted to eat. So off Shaq's instead for some complimentary chicken.
  23. Nope. There's one Emeril appetizer and one entree on the MDR menu each. That's not going to send people in droves to an a la carte restaurant. The reason why it's not busier has nothing to do with the food itself but rather that there are so many other complimentary food options on the Excel class.
