  1. We have never done door decorations...but we do use them as landmarks...lol Love it when the cabin next to us is all decorated, makes it so much easier to find the room after a long night!
  2. Not a guarantee balcony, but we had a large ocean view balcony for 3 of us and bid $1300 on a crown loft and it was accepted. I know the room cat has a lot to do with what is offered for Royal Up. I really think it is hit or miss as far as what is accepted and what is not as well as when it is accepted. Our December cruise bid was accepted 30 days prior to sailing. Good luck!!
  3. Sometimes a bottle of lotion or sunblock will work also....maybe even a magazine from the early 90's... I need to find someone on Harmony of the Seas Thanksgiving week so they can put a few towels down before I board on the 1st of December...just need 6 on the pool deck, by the beach pool, 6 in Aqua Theater...maybe 6 in the theater and a couple on the promenade. I can handle the rest I think. I will be happy to pay whoever can do this for me with diamond plus republic credits, which are good for 4 free front of the line passes at customer service.
  4. We tried that...came back and there was a line about a mile long of people just waiting for a chance to sit on it... Another line of people asking where the overflow towels were....and a small group of people going back and forth complaining that they need more Blue Towels....was a nightmare
  5. Could you imagine if they had a pool bounty? That would also be a great idea...you could pay for your cruise in pool credits....it would make the drink package appear cheaper, so instead of calculating how many drinks you need to break even, you can calculate how many chair hog towels you need to swipe. Or maybe we can turn the towels in for cruise points...maybe like 2500 towels to get to Diamond +
  6. On our last cruise I finally realized the almighty power of the "Blue Pool Towel" as my wife and I watched one after another appear around the pool deck. I watched as blue towel after blue towel were placed on chairs for hours on end with no bodies to hold them down. One after another a blue towel was left for hours on end on a lounger without a care in the word...no body touched them, it was like some mystic magic...a blue towel held spots for everyone!! Passengers and crew are afraid to touch or move them!! So this got me thinking...I went to the pool stand and asked for about 20 blue towels. With my towels in hand I made my way around the ship...I put 2 in the theater...2 in the Aqua Theater...2 in the Diamond Lounge...a couple in the casino...2 in Windjammer...some at the pub and a few in good parade locations on the Promenade. Was the best day ever...all our spots were now reserved all day without a care in the world. We showed up whenever we wanted for everything!! Magic I tell you magic!! The mystic power of that blue towel keeps everyone from touching it, even the staff!! We saw a few people try to get some crew members to remove the towels from the Promenade, but he knew there was nothing they could do as that towel was blue...maybe a red towel he could remove and most definitely he could remove a white towel....but not blue. So now we have taken this blue towel into our everyday life....I place them everywhere...before a good movie comes out I goto the theater and place them on prime seats...I use them at Disney World for firework and parade locations I would love to have...I lay them on the ground at the mall in prime parking locations a couple of days before we go... It is all magic!!! Spots saved!! I even think I may start a business just selling blue towels... *intended to be funny...please no flame war...no blue towels were harmed in any way
  7. I too wonder how the heck it is all done and figured out. I would assume it is all programmed for various configurations and data sets...but I will say it definitely doesn't always go-to the highest bidder...friends of ours all had booked balcony rooms together for a post wedding cruise...all but 1 room on same floor, 2 people bid on RoyalUp, the one who got upgraded bid 200 less than his friend. The only real difference we all noted was he (winning bid) was a 1st time Royal cruiser... I imagine the people who run this for Royal and other Cruise lines are kept in a hidden compound, with no contact from the outside world...their identity is hidden...phones are tapped... Because it would be great to know someone who does this...lol they would become our new best friend!!
  8. I would have to agree that slots are much easier to get points than table games, at least for me. Table games for me is a very social thing...my wife and I enjoy talking to other players and good dealers, but as ratings go this can be difficult. My bets go up and down depending on the people at the table and the way they play, and that affects my rating...not going to bet 100 a hand with a crazy table. Hell we have spent hours at a $10.00 table because we were having a great time chatting it up, but we know at the end of the day, not really getting any points. I fell like with slots, it really doesn't matter what people are doing next to you...your bet is not affected by someone hitting 14 on a dealer 6...it is you and the machine.
  9. On Majesty this summer, you could not have a drink in the pool, but hot tub nobody said anything. Pool it was fine if you were sitting on the side of the pool, but when I reached over to grab a sip, was told not to do that.
  10. Royal appears to be cranking them out today!! Congrats to all!
  11. My bid was $1,300 per person, not total. Sorry for the confusion, when I bid it is per person for the 1st 2 people in the room. So it comes out to $2600 total for the 3 of us
  12. I agree, but I guess I just figured that someone else was going to win the bid with a higher bid than mine as I went minimum. Not exactly sure how it all works, but I am sure they have a formula that like you said....makes royal more money.
  13. So just got a surprise from RoyalUp today which was totally unexpected..an email that our Crown Loft Suite was accepted!!! Was surprised because a) our cruise on Harmony isn’t until Dec. 1st and b) I put in a crappy bid. I put in a strong bid for a Jr. Suite thinking that would be cool and bam....crown loft was accepted. Why I have no idea but here is how it all went down. Booked a standard ocean view balcony for 3 last week, got an email from RoyalUp to bid on an OS, GS and Spacious Ocenview. At that time I did the minimum for the OS and GS. Then a couple of days later I noticed that they had hump balcony rooms available for like $30 more than my standard so I called Royal and changed to that and paid the $30.00. Later that day I received an email stating that because of my change my previous RoyalUp bids had been cancelled and that I can click here for a new offer. I clicked away and now had the chance to bid on the Crown Loft, OS, GS and Junior. I bid $1300 for the Crown, $1000 for OS, $700 for GS and $450 for Junior Suite. They were all minimum except the Jr. Suite was strong, as I was thinking I am good with the Junior. So today when I received the email, to say I was a little shocked is an understatement.... not sure how that all works, but I was really thinking we would not get any offers as there was still like 14 hump rooms left. I told my wife that I didn’t think it would be accepted because there does not appear to be that great a demand for 4 person hump rooms, so no hurry to move us for someone else.
  14. The way Royal works is kinda crazy with more than 2 people in a room...for example, I just booked a few days ago on Harmony for a cruise the 1st of December this year. It was cheaper to get a room for 3 in an oversized balcony room than it was to book for 2 in any other stateroom on the ship. I know that summer sailings are more expensive, but that price seems high. I agree with Biker19, see what a TA can do.....because the Royal website can drive you mental.
  15. Thanks for the replies....it really helps. This is a first for all of us so want it to go as smoothly as possible. My parents cruise a lot and so do we and we have never been able to go when they are able to go, but I figured that I know how surprised and excited he will be. I think I am going to take all of your suggestions and get the drink package for 3 and let the chips fall where they may, if my wife and daughter can go, great, if not I will just let them reimburse me the difference. We always get the drink package, just wasn’t exactly sure how it worked if there were no shows. I will say this, Royal was really helpful about going above and beyond to secretly link our dinner reservation and show reservations together without the need to confirm with my Mom. I know normally they have to get the permission of the other party. So thanks to the casino people at club royal for making it happen on the down low. Now just trying to figure out how, where and when to surprise them...lol should be fun.
  16. So just booked Dec. 1st on Harmony at the last minute for 3 of us...daughter, wife and I. It was last minute because we just found out last week my Father has ALS which is progressing rapidly. Not knowing how much time he has, I decided to book the cruise and surprise him once onboard. So I booked the 3 of us because Royal only had balcony rooms if I booked 3 people, so not wanting to miss a chance to sail with my father, I just booked it. So I have a few questions, some about a no show, some about scooter and wheelchair access...so here goes 1. Not sure if my wife and daughter can get off of work with such short notice....so do I just do a no show at the terminal when I get there? I have heard on here that if I do it before, they may try to change the room. Also I plan to prepay the drink package, and again, I will have to do it for all 3 of us, so do they just refund the other 2 if they don't show up? 2. My Mom has stated that she is going to either bring a wheelchair or rent a scooter for my Dad. Any suggestions one way or another? or both? This is all new to us and just want to be prepared as best we can. 3. Any suggestions as to good excursions that are wheelchair / scooter friendly? Cruise goes to St. Marteen, San Juan and Coco Cay. On Coco I got us a cabana which he will love. He can walk, but his legs give out after about 100 yards or so. 4. Anything else tip wise that anyone can suggest for making the trip more enjoyable for my Father would be great. Again thanks in advance..
  17. There is a formal night...night 2 I believe...but if u download the royal app for your phone and login, it will show you all nights and a lot of scheduled activities
  18. Good question, when we buy package it is always in advance...so I guess we have never paid attention to on board price...hmmmm
  19. My wife is a marketing director for a large company and she had a laugh at this too...said someone in IT is definitely gonna get ripped for this one...lok
  20. So in my cruise planner today, I can either buy the drink package at BOGO for $47.00 a day per person....or I can just buy as is for $44.00 per person. LOL what da what?? Just another fine example of Royal's "sales" I guess someone forgot to remove the before sale pick and link...
