We were in a spa interior on the Splendor and I thoroughly enjoyed it.  We only had two in the room so I can't address the "who gets the pass" issue.

I had never been forward before but it was great.  My sister usually tries to book mid ship due to seasick issues and she had no problems.  We loved the Elemis products in our room (they dole them out, so be forewarned).  But mainly we loved the location to everything, which might be specific to the Splendor.  The Thallossotherapy pool was awesome as well as the classes and discounts on spa services.

I'd do it again in a hot minute.  Have fun!

I'm booked in an Oceanview stateroom 1004 on the Splendor for a 4-night cruise out of Sydney in November 2020.

Please does the thalassotherapy pool have a solid handrail going down into the pool?

Handicapped and use a Rollator for independent mobility. I was considering parking the Rollator beside the pool-I've seen a photo which seems to show room to stow the Rollator while I'm in the pool. I have a pair of vinyl sandals that I will wear for safety-a bad habit of slipping on wet floors has me rather wary-ok PARANOID about hurting myself and spoiling my cruise.

Also, do they have the elemis products for sale in the Spa? I know Australian pricing will be different, but the company making the brand of hand cream I use, has been closed down permanently. So I'm looking for another option.

  3. Thanks everyone for your advice. Much appreciated all the different points of view, each raising a different issue to consider. Most helpful and unbiased advice.

I'm handicapped, Legally Blind and Asthmatic. I use a WebsterPak for my prescribed and OTC medications packed by my pharmacy and carry my Asthma puffers with me. I also use a Rollator for mobility.

I have noted to allow  Medical Expenses of AUD$500 in cash when I next cruise, on a rival line, but the general advice is universal. Am looking out for a short cruise out of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia to experience Royal Caribbean. Honestly had NOT though to put money aside for On Board Medical Expenses-omission will be corrected as of next Thursday-banking day, so will start "squirrelling" to have money to cover any nasty surprises on board.

Easy to change in the cruise personlizer. Where it says twin beds, click and change to queen or visa versa. If it isn't what you want when you board just ask the cabin steward to change it.

Note: If you are 3 or 4 people staying in a cabin with overhead berths then the lower berths will be in the twin configuration. There may be a few cabins where a queen is not possible. Check the deck plans on the Princess web site. It will be noted.

I'm booked in a Handicapped Accessible Interior Stateroom on the Ruby Princess in February, 2020 and am listed as having a queen bed-travelling solo, that might be the reason I get the queen bed, no one else in the stateroom.

Splendor is doing a 24 day cruise this Fall to Hawaii,Guam, Indonesia, and Vietnam. Ship will dock in Singapore at the end of the cruise. Goes into Dry Dock and, then  Australia I believe.  Legend is coming back to Tampa this Fall so a replacement is needed.

Yes, I'm booked on her in November 2020 for a 4 night cruise Sydney-Moreton Island-Sydney in a Spa Oceanview stateroom. I'm looking forward to my 1st Carnival cruise, will have sailed twice with Princess Cruises by then. And it will be my longest cruise yet!

    Oh those little laundry tags....

After being on a few cruises where we have had laundry done...

We still keep finding things which still have tags on them..... months later

    Cheers Don

I was very lucky then, my Room Steward warned me to check for and remove all pins, showing me what to look for, which was a GREAT help. I gave him a Consumate Host nomination, and showed him what I'd written about him. He was stunned at the comprehensive detail I'd provided of the various ways he'd helped me on my 1st cruise. I REALLY appreciated his careful guidance, it was my 1st ever cruise!

.Crochetcruise, we sailed last May on Caribbean Princess and they told us they don't have tumblers any more.

THANK YOU for this information!. I shall investigate my local Kmart-possibly the Australian version of Walmart-to locate and purchase a cup with a lid that screws on firmly. Depending on the price, I might get 2, different colours, so I can purchase an Alcoholic beverage-am planning to purchase On Board Credit as Princess has my preferred alcoholic tipple-Crème de Menthe and lemonade

I think a red cup will alert me the drink is NOT to be gulped greedily-a cousin warned me about drinking alcohol quickly, you'll get tipsy and possibly fall and hurt yourself! Cheeky devil, but my balance is worse than when I sailed the Golden Princess, so I'm being cautious, Still able to live independently.

There are appetizers provided at the Elite/Platinum/Suite function. You get an invite that lists the daily specials. Things like cheese & crackers and veggies are offered every night.

I did not receive an invite in November 2016 when I sailed the Golden Princess. Thanks to Cruise Critic I already knew about the function and went to Skywalkers myself, They had really yummy smoked salmon too!

Taught me to like smoked salmon, and tins are now a staple part of my Emergency Blackout Kit-food I can eat cold! No blackouts since I started the kit. a State-wide blackout scaring people on another thread as I wasn't online for over 24 hours-no electricity so no internet! My cousin hadn't thought of tinned fish in the Emergency Kit, so she also learnt something.

You would still get things like free laundry but it might be hard to get much benefit from it in 3 days.  You will get a bar setup but your best bet might be to trade it in for a bottle of wine to take to dinner. Free internet minutes so spend lots of time on your computer.

To my knowledge Suites don't get free Internet-I didn't in 2016 on the Golden Princess, unless you're Platinum or Elite. You can attend the Platinum/Elite/Suite gathering too.

    Do enjoy your Suite!

Can't change your bed type in the personalizer, you have to call in.  Most likely those cabins that are showing twin beds are actually quad cabins and most of those can only be twin beds.

I have a Handicapped Accessible quad cabin on the Ruby Princess next year, travelling solo, and have the Queen bed. Will be interesting to see how I cope with an inside cabin.

Just don’t drop the silver dollar sized bar of soap unless you’re a really good squatter because there’s not enough room to bend over to pick it up... 😉

Thanks for the discreet warning to bring shower gel with me. Even though I need a Handicapped Accessible stateroom, dropping the soap then standing on it and falling, is my nightmare! Even with a handrail, I'm still scared of falling!

    I appreciate your help immensely.

  13. Cheznandy, I'm in Stateroom 1004, an Obstructed Spa Oceanview. Will be interesting to see how I handle being at the bow, as a kid I was NOTORIOUS for unpredictable travel sickness!

When I had chemo after cancer surgery, Dad warily put 2 buckets on the back seat within my grabbing range, and a pile of old towels! The only problem was a warning wail, "How far to the nearest Ladies?" He soon learnt to read the road signs to me and say how much longer time-wise. I never got sick in the car, to everyone's relief. I am taking Pharmacist-recommended medication, took it on the Golden Princess and I wasn't the person in the group of ex-workmates who got seasick. The younger of the 2 males, got sick BEFORE we cleared Sydney Heads! Much teasing resulted. And he's fond of an alcoholic tipple too, which wouldn't have helped!

Should be right thank you, have seen a reasonably clear photo showing a handrail going down into the Thalossatherapy pool, so will wear vinyl sandals for my safety-water on the floor is a slipping hazard for me, and bring a strap to secure the walker beside the handrail so no-one moves it-can't safely walk without it, tire too quickly using walking sticks.

  14. Only problem for me with the Sapphire Princess, there seem to be very few Handicapped Accessible cabins. Not sure how I'll go on the Ruby Princess-3-night round-trip out of Sydney in February 2020 in a Handicapped Accessible Interior. I shall find out! Will take over-the-counter generic equivalent of a trusted medication to be safe.

Please don't be TOO cross, I've also booked a 4-night Sydney-Moreton Island-Sydney on Carnival Splendour! I know I won't be going ashore-poor balance and terrified of falling and breaking a bone so possibly losing my independence! Yes, I'm a coward, but I want to KEEP my independence as long as possible. Splendour has a Thalassotherapy pool with a decent handrail, so access should be ok for me. Yes I will make sure to wear a rash vest to protect from sunburn! Promise!

On our last cruise in Feb, they left a small pencil instead of a pen. It worked fine to fill out the laundry bag. But if you prefer a pen, bring one from home or go to Guest Services.

THAT'S what I HAD forgotten to put on my Cruise Packing List! A pen! And with discounted taxi vouchers due to being handicapped, I certainly NEED to have in my handbag! GRATEFUL thanks for the reminder, while I don't sail until November 2020 on the Carnival Splendour-4 night Sydney-Moreton Island-Sydney, something like that is SO easy to forget. Now added to my Cruise Packing List, a PACKET of pens!

OK - now I understand:o One of my gripes actually as I was annoyed to find that Princess do not offer the PES lounge/happy hour on Aust. based ships:(. Its a very nice, convivial way to catch up with friends at the end of the day). Most often have a different drink rather than the 'special' but it is a nice meeting place and really missed it on the Sun.

Unfortunately IMHO if Princess really want to save money they could do away with the farce of the Captain's "Cocktail Party" and the "Champagne Waterfall". These classic cruise icons have been bastardized to such a degree that we don't go to them anymore. They are a bun fight and an embarrassment. Another reason we miss the PES lounge so much. Maybe it is 'big ship' syndrome:(

That's a change from November 2016 when I sailed the Golden Princess in a Window Suite. Too late for the PES lounge on embarkation day,, went the next night and enjoyed it, but found looking out the windows at Bass Strait provoked a queasy tummy, so I finished my drink and retreated to the lower decks and inside. I came good when I couldn't see the waves!

The cruise was excellent and the Carnival Splendor is a beautiful ship. Since it was a NYE cruise, upon boarding, they had the balloons set up from the balloon drop at midnight. The food and entertainment were great. The stops Cabos and Puerto Vallarta are nice stops. Mazatlan is an industrial port with other container and passenger ships there. Just keep in mind when exploring Mazatlan, all stores and food places in the port take only cash. I didn't know this. My brother and I stopped at this taco place and another cruiser (from royal carribean) ended up paying for our food. It was a nice jester and we appreciated that. He said the same thing happened to him and he was paying his good deed forward.

It was fairly warm in all three ports of call. The staff and our room service attendants were great as well. Since it was our first time cruising during the water, it took awhile for our rooms to warm up. We called guest services and they sent us someone to look at our ac/heat unit. After a few adjustments, we didn't have any other issues with our room staying warm. We had reservations at the steakhouse and of course, it was delicious!. On NYE, we were on the lido deck by 11:30 pm and our CD Lee, kept the music playing and informing us of how many minutes we had left until NY's. The moment came when we had ten seconds and we started the count down. When we hit zero seconds, the ships horn started blasting and confetti and other party decorations were raining down on us (I did post a video on John Healds facebook page of the countdown and I'm also apart of the carnival friendly cruisers facebook that I posted too as well). It was a remarkable moment.

We had so much fun on this cruise that we booked another NYE cruise aboard the brand new Carnival Panorama (we're getting some love out here in the West Coast). All in all, you will not be disappointed by the Carnival Splendor. It's a unique ship and the interior is PINK, but you'll get over it by the second day. If I were you, I'd cruise on it because its moving to Austraila in October 2019. I've sailed the Carnival Splendor once before (when she was homeported in Miami in 2016 after Carnival moved the Breeze to Texas). I hope this answered your concerns and I apologize for replying back so late.

    Take Care

I'm booked for a 4-night cruise-Sydney-Moreton Island-Sydney on the carnival Splendour in a Spa Oceanview. Looking forward to enjoying the Thalossotherapy pool, the only pool I have seen on a cruise ship with a decent handrail and steps going down into the pool. Handy when you're handicapped and stairs are a challenge. I know to buy myself a rash vest for sun protection, it's on my cruise shopping list. Eagerly counting down the days! LOL!

Note that the OP stated "interior cabins available".  They may be down to only interiors that hold 3/4 persons, and don't want to sell that to a single.  The cruise is only a few months away.

I have a Handicapped Accessible Interior cabin on the Ruby in February 2020. I needed that specific cabin due to permanent physical handicaps. I got my TA to phone Princess directly while I sat across the desk while she organised the booking here in Australia. I am a repeat cruiser, do not know if this made any difference.

Looking forward to boarding the Ruby, have sailed on the Golden for my 1st cruise, and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I have very little hair and I absolutely despise that stuff. Neither of us uses the big wall-mounted bottles of either shampoo or body wash. Nope, nope, nope. Not good stuff at all. Even worse, some folks have posted that they unscrewed the bottles and found black mold all around the tops of them where you can't see it. Blech... 😝

Thanks for the warning to put shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and body lotion on my packing list. Have some small Travel bottles to fill-and label! Don't think shampoo would be any good as a body lotion!

  20. I always have my mobile phone with me-no longer wear a watch so use phone as timer. I can set an alarm to warn me to get to the laundry room to change from washer to dryer-I might need 2 dryer cycles, something medical and bulky that takes time to dry.

Great suggestion about bringing laundry pods, must look out for a box while shopping.
