Smart!!! We also get those travel size hand sanitizers on a keychain and attach it to our card lanyard. Better safe than sorry!

THANK YOU! I need to check my own supplies of travel size hand sanitizers and if needed, buy some more. I had overlooked this, until I read your post. Very helpful! 🙂

Carnival has a clothes line you can stretch across in the shower to hang wet clothes, does Royal have this? Specifically asking about Jewel of the Seas.

I found a retractable clothesline in my local Automobile Club shop before I went on my 1st cruise-with an unnamed opposition line but I got the cruise bug all right! Do not remember how much it was-over 2 years ago, but it was very useful!

The Social Plan can only be purchased for the whole cruise. The other plans can be purchased on a daily basis. Of course the whole cruise price will vary by the cruise length. :classic_cool:

THANK YOU! Another item for my Cruise Purchases List. I DO like pricing ahead so I can save the money and have extra for unplanned On-Board purchases. Am allowing for cookies from Cherry on Top every day-three varieties that I like and will enjoy! 🙂

lol you'll love it . They are fruiti. And if i liked jack daniels i would get the high seas tea. It is a super deal for a house wine. They use the same house house wine that they use in all the bars. I like the wine wine. Make sure you go at advertised time to casino bar.

I sure will.Hoping to get to the Overseas Passenger Terminal early for boarding, can't select my time yet about 20 months before sailing. Needing a Handicapped Accessible stateroom means planning WELL AHEAD, and then dealing with the airlines-2 different companies to get from my hometown to Sydney and home again.  Oh well, gives me plenty of time to research so any small problems should be controlled-bar the weather! LOL!

pyes they have those drinks it is exclusive to only the drinks on the menu but the wine was good and if you like the speciality drinks advertised its good. found to be skimpy on the alcohol though.  some are pre mixed.

Skimpy on the alcohol sounds ideal for this learner drinker. LOL. Going on the Carnival Splendour for a 4 night round trip Sydney-Moreton Island-Sydney in a Spa Obstructed Oceanview in November 2020. Have seen photos of the tenders, won't safely manage the stairs on walking sticks-usually use a Rollator-so will have a peaceful time aboard and in the Thalosotherapy pool! Am guesstimating AUD$16 an alcoholic drink, which is the price on an opposition line, but useful for me as a budget guesstimate!

You are correct that  this applies only to "carry-on" luggage and not "checked -in" luggage. You can carry whatever size liquids you want in checked in luggage.

THANK YOU! Great help to be able to bring additional supplies of my preferred brands of sunscreen and moisturiser. I've only travelled locally, but the hints I learned on Cruise Critic made my 1st cruise EVER so much easier!

    You're not wrong...

Self-Service Launderettes are featured on the following ships: All ships with the exception of the Mardi Gras. The Mardi Gras will have ironing rooms on several stateroom decks as well as Valet Laundry service.

Oh dear! Looks like I'd better write myself a note NEVER to sail the Mardi Gras as there's no self-service laundrette!

Thank you for alerting me to that fact, I don't remember seeing it.

Thanks everyone, I was hoping for full size items and not the tiny travel size, so yes I'll look into bringing from home. There are 3 of us traveling so maybe we can split the items between our bags to lighten the load. We are going on a 2 week cruise, so bringing travel size items for 3 people isn't going to work. We are flying in and staying at the Double Tree in San Pedro the night before the cruise, so there are no stores in walking distance. But shopping in our first port in Hawaii is a great idea!

If you are flying-even within the USA-you may need to consider the Liquids" rule, don't know what it's called Stateside, basically you're allowed 1litre (unsure of US equivalent) of liquids with each being 100ml or less-think 3.4oz US carried in a Ziploc bag. I use travel sized toiletries for travelling, and decant my sunscreen into a 100ml bottle for flying, with the rest of the bottle being in a Ziploc bag in my checked case.

If she is prone to them see if her doctor would give her a prescription to have filled before you leave.

Good point! I don't need them, but have noted in my diary to make sure I have all medications recently dispensed before I embark for peace of mind.

    Thank You for this reminder.

And a lot of walking up and down stairs.

Sounds like that eliminates me-I use a Rollator for mobility. Grateful thanks to kind people who have gone on the tour and posted descriptions, I do have some idea of what happens. I would not dare use walking sticks for an extended time, I tire too quickly.

Was on Grand Princess doing a Bridge Tour in November.  The Bridge Watch Team is manned by two Deck Officers and two Able Seamans.  We found a Fifth manning the Watch Team.  His name is "Grand Bear" and was sitting in a Bosun's Chair in front of one Able Seaman's console.  Maybe related to "Stanley the Bear"?  See photos.   Cool and cute stuff.....1081354933_GBwatch-1.thumb.jpg.78cb45ce9fb4312d21292148bd1c9836.jpg

354 days until I board the Ruby Princess at the Overseas Passenger Terminal in Sydney!  It will be a hard decision as to which purchase comes 1st-Stanley Bear or the Soda and More Drink Package-I want both!

We came back a little too late on New Year's Eve --- Stanley had had his own party.

Captain Stanley Bear! You're setting a SHOCKING example to the rest of your crew! Really letting your hair down!

I've already noted to budget for the keyring and the mug. Please what's the USD price-I can multiply by 1.3 to get the AUD$ price. My exchange rate for purchasing On Board Credit is $100USD to $130AUS according to my Cruise Personaliser I pay $130 to buy $100 of On Board Credit. Great help with my budgeting!

  13. I forgot to add: bring a spare pair of prescription glasses-I have both regular clear and sunglasses, so the newest pairs are on me and in my handbag, and the previous prescription pairs are in the suitcase as spares. Also a small First Aid kit and some extra Band-Aids (sticking plasters for you I think) as I always seem to get a blister when I forget the Band-Aids! Also sunscreen, history of skin cancer in the family, so taking no chances, and wear a brimmed hat with elastic fitted under my chin so it stays on my head!

Please keep the great ideas coming, some aren't relevant to me, but thought provoking.

They often use the term "for your safety" when they make unannounced changes to cabins.

When they took foot stools and loungers off the balconies it was "for passenger safety."

More room for what?  To do yoga?

We take 20 and 30 days cruises and there can be periods of time, because of bad weather, that balconies and other outdoor areas are not useable.  I hope they have enough places for 3,000 plus passengers to sit in the public area because they removed chairs from their staterooms.

Princess seems to be getting sneakier and less transparent in all of the cost cutting measures it is doing that IMHO will not enhance my cruise experience on Princess.

They might as well take out the toilet seats so the room stewards have to spend less time cleaning.....everyone knows how to squat I think!!

A bit of a safety issue for me-poor balance. I do use a Rollator for assistance in walking safely, which has a seat that is reasonably comfortable to sit on, just a bit hard to get back onto my feet, but an option for me. I won't be cruising until February 2020, the 3 night out of Sydney in an Inside stateroom. Will be interesting to see the changes from the Handicapped Accessible Window Suite on the Golden Princess.

    • I have my prescribed and some over-the-counter medications packed into a WebsterPak by my chemist, so all I need to bring in this line is Vitamin C chewable tablets. I buy the smallest size I can, and keep it in my handbag for quick access.
    • Clipboard with a writing pad and pen attached by a string.
    • Several battery-operated tea lights.
    • Phone and computer chargers-travel in my handbag for quick access (I forgot the computer charger ONCE-I learnt how frustrating having to buy a notepad to keep notes was! :classic_rolleyes:
    • Emergency contact details.

Hope this helps someone. I learnt a tremendous lot from Cruise Critic before my 1st sailing-with another cruiseline but am booked on the Carnival Splendour November 2020. And IMPATIENTLY counting down the days!

We just got off the Crown last week.  We purchased the soda and more package and received the tumbler.  I just checked and it holds 16 oz with no ice.  It is double walled as well.  The top does not have a straw but has a slide you use to open up the top.

People can have medical reasons why the sheets might need to be changed more frequently,  but of course, all one would need to do is advise their steward for more frequent changes.

THANK YOU for jogging my memory. I meet this criteria, and must ask the steward to supply a certain item, which I had forgotten I needed to write on my Cruise To-Do List. With your comment, my memory received the needed reminder, and a note is made in my diary.

I was told by a bar tender last year aboard Spirit that the menu/drinks pricing onboard Australian Carnival ships is still US dollars but Carnival simply charge the overall folio number in AUD without any conversion so a US$9 beer is simply billed as AUD$9 giving us a little price advantage.  This kind of makes sense as they don't alter the prices for when Legend makes its way to Australia and back to the US.  So if anyone has a photo of a Splendor drinks menu, I'd be interested to see it posted to compare with Spirit and Legend pricing.

That's very interesting! Thank you! I would also like to see the drinks menu, so I can work out what I'll be sampling, and start putting money into a money box for On Board Credit.

  18. THANK YOU! I booked the 4-night cruise Sydney-Moreton Island-Sydney 11-26-2020 on the Carnival Splendor yesterday. Sailing in an Obstructed Oceanview Spa Stateroom, and counting the days!

This information gives me information about budgeting for the cruise-plan to get the Bottomless Bubbles and put money into Cruise Cash to allow for souvenir purchases, if I can find a Carnival Teddy Bear or 2!

a couple of weeks off the Splendor.  I believe the laundry room on Deck 7 was open 24 hours.  It also had an iron.  Not sure I want to be doing laundry late at night, but nice to know it is available.

THANK YOU! It would be very helpful for me to be able to get up early and get medical stuff washed and dried. I will make sure I have a spare with me. And bring some packaged nibbles for the early morning. I checked the cost of 12 x 600ml bottles of Coke and Sprite-allowed here in Australia by Carnival Australia-and it's CHEAPER for me to buy through my Personaliser! AND  I  could buy 2 packs and have MORE soft drink than bringing it aboard!

Just off the Splendor. Laundry on Deck 2 no chairs 3 washers 4 dryers use sail card to activate, would not read our cards had to jiggle and manipulate card in reader multiple times to activate. Dryer long cycle. Iron on deck one, bring water for steam. Hooks to hang ironing.

THANK YOU for this very specific explanation of how to activate the machines, and the costs involved. Great help with my budgeting for the cruise, and time planning aboard! I don't iron stuff-poor eyesight and terrified of hurting myself and losing my ability to live independently. Most of my clothes wash and either drip dry or go in the dryer.
