Sherri,
When you were at Sapphire Beach, did you notice if there was a stand where you could get food and drinks? Were there any restrooms and were they clean? I've read many conflicting reviews lately about Sapphire Beach. Some people claim that the food and beverage stand is now closed and the bathrooms are beyond filthy, and others say that there is a place for food and drinks and that the bathrooms are just fine.
We are trying to plan our excursions for our January cruise and we wanted to spend the day at Sapphire Beach, but some of the reviews have us concerned.
Thanks!
We really like Shapphire Beach. We have been there several times. Its nothing like is was 10 years ago when it had a thriving hotel BUT in Nov there was a waiter walking around with a menu and our family loved the food that they delivered right to us on the beach including beer. The couple had just moved to the island and opened a small resturant behind hotel area. The prices were really good compared to other places. Bathrooms werent great but usable.

Its a crap shoot. If you can afford it maybe. Its about a foot more room at the end of the bed. Dont know how old your daughter is but DD with 2 yo son just turned the couch around and used that for his bed. It worked perfect for them and didnt take up too much room!
-
Sometimes they wont but just put all the things up on one of the out of the way shelves or in the RCCL plastic bag under the bed. Then refill last day! We use the frig everytime and do one or the other

No to the nursery!

Just wondering if anyone had any experience with the in-room babysitting service on Explorer? I'm bringing my 9 month old and may like to have dinner at Portofino one night. (I searched threads and didn't see any other with answer)
We used the babysitting service in Nov. They send 2 girls and they stay the whole time together. It was $18 hour but we felt well worth it. We used them for the grandkids to treat kids to portofinos and then again for the quest. Will do it again in a heart beat!

For any of you going to Bermuda, coke rewards has OBC you can buy with you coke rewards. I got excited for a minute then realized it was for bermuda sailing only. They are a good deal too!

We were just on explorer in Nov with 2 four year olds and a two year old. We all had a great time and would go again in second. I did smell the sewage a few times but not enought to bother me. As Meg said I have smelled it on just about all cruises. Kids club was top. Kids didnt want to leave.

Christie, love the diamonds! But am partial to emeralds at least the real things!

This has nothing to do with the subject. I just wanted to point out that this thread just doesn't have the same nostalgia as the old one started so long ago. **SIGH**:(
So agree! Christie and I were saying just that last week!

A few questions regarding embarkation:
- After you check in, you have to take a bus to get to the actual ship, right? Do the buses take you to a separate building? Do you go through security before or after the bus ride?
- Are the buses school buses, coach buses, etc.? I am having difficulty conceptually.
- When you physically board the ship, where do you enter? I recall entering on deck four on other RCI ships and immediately being on in the inside part of the ship, but we entered on the outdoor balcony part of deck four on Liberty. I was wondering if Explorer is the same.
Security before as you enter the building when you arrive. Bus is like a city bus, no you leave the first building and get off and on the ship. I think you enter deck 2 but somewhere in the bowels of the ship at least this is how it was the last time we were on her. The bus ride is very short. I thinks its just too long to walk, as the ship isnt park right by checkin. Hope this helps. If you can find the old explorer thread I think there are pics. Radio might also have some pics in his reviews.

We have used the wine package 2 x and DH enjoyed it. Of course it was more expensive than what you can buy in a store but about the same price as if out!

For all those who have cruised explorer, could you share some of your favourite things about the ship? meals, entertainment, etc.
Not flying and wasting 2 days! I love the voyager class nothing special just to be cruising. Oh I guess the staff which I feel is one of the nicest!
Kelly we are glad you changed too!

There is usually not price drops on the explorer. Our price has gone up $500 pp since we booked. I think you booked when prices were at the higher end. Our kids got their room d1 for less than 1200pp. Dont know if that helps

As far as the scooter goes email the special needs dept and they will assist you.
I usually bring 24 pack soda with me then I can have one in the room when I want it. No problem just pack in my carryon and give to porters. Got the soda package once but you are always carrying around the cup. I kept forgetting it and having to go back and get it! Just my thoughts.

Just read a review and they said they had a chocolate breakfast! I say yeah! But then I love chocolate anytime! The poster just got off this week.

3% fee but if you need the cash its much cheaper than the atm on the ship. We used it one time just to get money out and build up credits but I think a lot of people were doing it. If we have a big OBC we just eat the 3% and get our money

Its the list of daily activities that are going on. You get the next days compass in your room the night before. It has the list of all the things going on, hours for bars, resturants and venues. Plus lots of other stuff!
