  1. I think my favorite features of Oasis class are: Dedicated walking/jogging track - no chairs to dodge! Vitality cafe - love the smoothies
  2. You and me both! Though I'd be looking for ways to get outside to experience it firsthand!
  3. A picture is worth a thousand words...this bring back so many memories of past cruises!
  4. We're planning (with God's grace) to catch a 10:30 AM flight out of SEA-TAC after our Alaska Cruise on Quantum in July...but we are planning to self-disembark and we have the TSA Precheck.
  5. The wife received a GoPro at Christmas from her very thoughtful husband. As they are planning their first cruise to Alaska, taking a whale-watching excursion in Juneau, a railway/biking excursion in Skagway, and a Butchart Gardens tour in Victoria, not to mention some random hiking/walking around ports whenever possible, what are the best accessories to make the best use of the camera? Thanks.
  6. We've done a couple of the couples' massages on embarkation days. I've found them pretty comparable to what I've had on shore. Of course they do try to sell you everything under the sun afterward, but I have no problem firmly, yet politely, saying no thank you, and leaving. As stated above it is a nice way to destress from all the rigmarole of traveling to the port, checking in, unpacking, etc. on the first day of the cruise. Since it's usually instigated by the wife, I let her foot the bill😁
  7. Are the showers communal or individual, private ones?
  8. Revisiting this thread. Does access to a Thermal Suite require a reserved time slot, or is it basically you show up and if there's room you go in? I guess it's unlimited use for the duration of the cruise, correct? My wife is interested in purchasing this for us (much to my chagrin), but hey, it's her money this time, not mine, so who am I to protest, right? Anyway, just wondering about accessibility/availability... Thanks.
  9. Sometimes, size does matter. I don't ever get shoved aside...and my wife clings closely to my side when in crowds. I take no credit, good genes from my parents!...and lots of Cream of Wheat growing up!
  10. Yeah, it'd be nice to see the Steelers win their seventh! Go Steelers!
  11. Just curious. On the last few cruises we took, we ate our evening meal in the Solarium Bistro, but never had a reservation. As recently as this past February on Wonder we didn't reserve there. Is this something new, or have we just been that lucky? Thanks for the review and the great pictures. We've been eying the ABC itinerary, but haven't found exactly what we want...so the search continues.
  12. 30,000 steps/day is quite a goal! The walking track is one of the most attractive features for my wife and me on the Oasis class ships. I wish you success in meeting and surpassing your goal! Walk a few laps for me! God bless!
  13. Well that certainly makes my mind up; this is utterly ridiculous. Gratuities certainly are getting way out of hand and not just on cruise ships... Thanks.
  14. So educate me, what about a Thermal Suite pass would require a 20% gratuity (aka service fee)? Do they do anything to or for you? Isn't it just a steam sauna that you sit in? What am I missing? Thanks.
  15. Hi All, We're booked on Quantum of the Seas for an Alaskan cruise next July. Our last port before returning to Seattle is Victoria BC. We've booked the Butchart Garden tour through the cruise line. We are scheduled to dock at 5:00 PM with the tour starting at 5:45 PM; the information provided states 1 hour 45 minutes to tour the gardens. If the tour bus leaves at 5:45 PM as scheduled, when would we return to the dock? I'm asking because we wonder if we'd have a little time to traipse about Victoria a bit before having to board by 9:45 PM (ship leaves at 10:00 PM). Thanks much!
  16. Is this a specialty venue or is it included in the cruise fare?
  17. The wife has been reading some things that suggest hotel rooms and such in Alaska are really not dark enough to sleep if one is somewhat sensitive to light, so they suggest taking some eye coverings. I'm curious to know if the cruise ship (Quantum of the Seas in this case) are really that light during normal sleeping hours, say 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM. I never really had an issue on the Caribbean cruises we've taken, but then again I've never sailed in the land of the midnight sun. Thanks.
  18. The worst meal I ate associated with a cruise was the dinner I cooked the night before we left the house.
  19. Anyone drive from Seattle to Mount St. Helens? We'll be in Seattle a few days before our Alaska cruise departs next July and were thinking about driving down there one day. I understand the road to the observatory is closed due to a landslide that damaged it severely. Any word on if they expect it to be re-opened by June, 2024?
