Forgive me for being a contrarian but we will be consistent with some of our other posts elsewhere on CC. If you get a cold, flu, or even something more serious the Princess Platinum plan may well pay-off without too many hassles. Yes, that is a good thing.

However, lets say you have a real serious medical problem, have to be evacuated to a hospital in a foreign land, and quickly run-up $80,000 in medical bills for critical care, surgery, etc. That same Princess plan will pay $20,000 and then say....that is all we will pay. My point is that while the plan is fine for relatively minor things, once your expenses go over $20,000 they say "too bad, you exceeded our maximum." Now some folks might thing that $20,000 of Medical is generous coverage, but we have seen that amount exceeded very quickly when you have a major problem. So for those that have no other insurance that will give them coverage outside the country we always suggest finding a travel med policy with at least $100,000 in medical coverage,,,and that should be the bare minimum. Buying insurance that will pay off for minor claims of a few hundred or even thousand dollars is fine, but not having coverage for a truly major medical issue is taking a gamble with your entire financial future (for most folks).

If I have to fight with an insurance company over a $300 claim my life will not change if they refuse to pay or if they are nice and do pay. But if I am fighting to get reimbursement for a $80,000 claim or even a $30,000 claim and they have a $20,000 limit it is going to be a very bad day for me :).

Totally Agree...Always separate your Private Travel insurance from the Cruise Line insurance

Got a strange email for our upcoming cruise on the Sky. It mentioned our excursion was incomplete. We had booked a beach day at Mahogany Bay. Looking at the itinerary (screenshot attached) it now says undefined. I know there's a huge Carnival ship in the same day we are. They've known for months that these two ships would be in the same time. I know they cancelled this port on the Regal not too long ago and to be honest, if they substitute a day at sea I'll be pizzed. I never would book this itinerary with 3 days at sea - not the Western. I'll make the best of it of course but it won't go down easy.

Thoughts? Anyone get note that there cruise changed?

We were on Getaway, but over the summer so more families which may have accounted for less people in there.  I wasnt complaining, it was great having it to ourselves most times we were in there. Also, if i remember correctly, it opened up to the deck which was a really good design to keep the smoke out of the interior areas, although most have really ventilation systems.

I was hoping that since Princes has more old fogies that enjoy stogies like myself, they would have one, but no such luck for our cruise next month on Enchanted...

More Old Fogies and Stogies...and less Family's with kids!!!!

  4. Was going to ask this question in the Pacific port section, but no one answers anything on there, Looking at a  Princess cruise out of Vancouver for Alaska.just watched a video and it seems like you have to drag your bags everywhere. How do they help with disabled persons and their bags?

    Thanks

Yes, daily gratuities included (room, dining, drinks, all items in the package). I believe that spa and hairdresser / barber gratuities are not included

I am so very tired of the tipping culture in the US. I bought a pizza the other night. It's from a take and bake place. I ordered it online then I had to go pick it up, bring it home, and bake it myself. The website wants to automagically add a 15% tip. Of course I'm "free to add more". There are articles online about Self Checkout machines asking for tips. GAH!!!!!

Or it seems like every business now I want you to donate to their charity. A lot of news agencies, including CNBC is basically said that tipping is out of control and begging people for donations is also out of control.

I posted here a few weeks ago about how the website quoted a price for 4 passengers, and then even though after we paid with our CC, we got the response that the transaction was done, it only booked two passengers.  We learned this AFTER we bought non-refundable plane tickets (which we had to do immediately, there were only 4 tix left at $500 ea, after that the price doubled, which would price us out of the market for the entire trip).  I went thru the screens again taking screenshots this time to show what we were seeing, and got to the CC page and called customer service, asking them if this one goes thru for 4 passengers like it should, will they cancel the other one, they said yes, but the same thing happened.  So we ended up having two cabins but paying double what we had planned to pay.  I kept trying to negotiate with RCL, going up the chain of command, hoping they'd offer us something reasonable to admit the error was on their part and to keep us reasonably happy, as repeat customers (we've cruised 3x with them before).  They offered NOTHING except to refund everything, which would do us no good because we still had the non refundable plane tickets, and didn't want to do anything else in FL.  After continuing to be stonewalled, I emailed corporate again and said maybe they can give us half the difference as a refund and the other half as credit toward a future cruise.  Crickets.  They ended up getting back to me days later, claiming they "didn't know when I took the screenshots", as if they think I made it up.  I explained to them the idea of metadata and they should contact their IT dept.  Then they changed their tune again, claiming that since nobody else got that price at the time I took the screenshots, I shouldn't get that price.  IRRELEVANT!  The price they offered was within reason, and was not an obvious mistake, so when I booked, it seemed like it should be a price that would be honored.

Fast forward to TWO WEEKS before the cruise date. I get a call from the low-level customer service agent that I first spoke with before I escalated the matter.  HE had to tell me that corporate decided to CANCEL OUR CRUISE and give us a refund.  So now we're stuck with the plane tickets and no cruise so close to the date we have to fly to Miami.  Their corporate is such cowards that they couldn't contact me THEMSELVES to tell me this, they stuck a lower-level employee to do their dirty work.  Is that disgusting or what?  I am pretty sure they did this because they were worried they'd lose in a lawsuit since I had plenty of evidence that they should honor the price they offered and I accepted on their site (that means a CONTRACT, that they tried to breach).  But by cancelling, I can't sue for the delta anymore.  That's how they do business.  No reasonable attempt to make a repeat customer happy, but instead, do the worst thing possible to ruin a family vacation at almost the last minute. I, nor my kids, will ever sail with them again.  And my wife and I are nearing retirement age and plan to take lots more cruises, too bad for them, such a bad business decision on their part!

I am trying to get booked on MSC right now and have a 24 hr hold on two cabins, and the price will be a little more than what I was originally planning to pay for one cabin for 4 people, but less than what we ended up paying for the two cabins together AND we'd get balconies on this one, not just a window with partial obstructed view that we got on RCL.  This is more evidence that the original 4-person price we were quoted was reasonable and they should have honored the contract.

    Dear Sir/Madam

if your story is true and you have the documents to prove your case,Contact you State Attorney Generals Consumer Protection Department and file a report with them..Feel free to also contact the Federal Trade Commission and do the same with them...Hop it works out for you on MSC😀

I do not agree with @cruzsnooze.  I think the value of the premier package comes from the unlimited casual dining options, as well as the better wines.  I also love the photos and room service fees waived.  We definitely use the WiFi and would never ever ever consider reducing our crew appreciation.  I also like being able to enter the green lane with free medallion shipping.  I do love the Princess prizes, even though the odds as slim.  On ships with the Catch by Rudi, I think the premier is a must!  Not sure if I would partake in the premier on a longer cruise but anything at 7 days or less, it is definitly worth it.
Of course, I see more value in it on a Royal class ship where they have 2 or 3 of the following:  the Gastropub, Ocean Terrace, GiGis or Alfredo’s.
I don’t get the premium desserts but my DH does.  We also don’t sign up for the fitness classes, as we do our excerice by using the stairs and walking the deck.  But, we do use the preferred seating for production shows in the theater.

But if you get just the plus,Aren't fees waved for Room Service as well?

    Honest Question

    Thanks

At the RCL planner page, the Beach Club is showing 98.99 for adults and 88.99 for kids as a special, but if i go to reserve and add adults they show up at 158.99.

If i call RCL would they honor the lower price? 4 Adults $60 savings your into real money.

Of course give them a call when they open up in the morning. Tell them what happened and I'm sure they're sorted out and if they don't tell them you got a screenshot of it.😁

If the last sentence is true it isn't updated on the US Embassy Tecugigalpa website as @cre8tiv1 ctied above and that doesn't mean a cruise line has to follow it especially if they think it may be a temporary waiver that could change at any time.  There is nothing restricting cruise lines from imposing stricter (i.e, passports for all passengers for all ports) identification requirements.  There have been posts here on CC describing just that.

The problem is the cruise lines and the CLIA don't want to require a passport because it hurts their bottom line!! you go to Canada you go to Mexico you go to England you have to have a passport why dothe cruise lines get an exception?.......$$$

Kind of hoping Princess doesn't want to attract families with kids!!! there's enough cruise lines out there.. Carnival Royal Caribbean,NCL for families with kids and I don't feel like paying Oceana or Viking prices so I can come on to be an adult

They care only in the most basic sense that they want to ensure that they don't lose money. Don't kid yourself into believing that they care about the people on board that ship or resort any farther than it would cost them in insurance claims and lawsuit settlements.

It would be a mistake to bet your life or the life of your family based on faith in the decision making process of corporations. Never underestimate the overconfidence and stupidity of groupthink and corporations and their willingness to sacrifice people for profits.

Don't forget the Titanic, the Titan submersible or the recall math from fight club....

I feel like there are a lot of people on this thread that are ignoring the potential for disaster here. The old, "Well its never happened before, so it won't now". is always a popular theme until tragedy strikes.

Does no one think that the recent addition of anywhere from 3000 to 4000 escaped/released prisoners to thier ranks could allow them to set thier sights on targets that until now were unrealistic? That's a lot of extra manpower.

Can no one imagine the profit to be had from looting that resort and its tourist? Or if they chose to go further, ransoming hostages?

It does not seem that far fetched to me. Improbable? Maybe. Impossible or even highly unlikely? No.

Here is an excerpt from an article on the attack on the airport.

Make sure to note the phases like, "previously unthinkable targets".

"Amid the chaos, an armored truck was sighted on the airport tarmac, engaging in a firefight with the gangs to thwart their advance. Scores of employees and bystanders fled amidst the hail of bullets, highlighting the gravity of the situation. This onslaught stands as the most significant attack on the airport in Haiti's history.

The violence erupted shortly after authorities imposed a nighttime curfew in response to recent unrest, which saw armed gangs overrunning prisons and releasing thousands of inmates. A state of emergency, spanning 72 hours, was declared as authorities sprung into action to locate and apprehend the escaped prisoners, many of whom faced serious criminal charges.

Port-au-Prince, Haiti's capital, has become a stronghold for these criminal factions, with gangs reportedly controlling up to 80% of the city. These groups, emboldened by their increasing coordination, have set their sights on previously unthinkable targets, including the Central Bank."

Now just imagine the chaos and complete breakdown of civility that would unfold if there was an attack on the resort. No one could stop thousands of intruders with guns. And it's doubtful the staff would even try. Your best hope would be that you were able to make it back to the ship without being trampled in the ensuing panic and that the boat could disembark before it was also overun and captured.

    Just saying...

This  post is spot on !!! Of course on cruise critic along with other forms of Social Media, a lot of people don't wanna listen to reality. Also, a lot of people have never served in the Armed Forces, been in combat or Police Officers,Corrections

    ETC....

I was just going to reply that my contact in Panama told me that things had quieted down to a large degree.  There were far fewer roadblocks and demonstrations particularly around the cities and the when there were roadblocks they generally were not long lasting.  There was mostly a wait and see attitude while the Panama Supreme Court pontificates on the matter of the mining agreement being constitutional.  This morning he wrote and said the Court had ruled that the agreement was unconstitutional.  I feel sure in the short term things may settle down to "normal", how long that will last is an open question, it will be totally dependent on whether there is a complete shutdown, nationalization or even a renegotiation of the agreement.  I am sure the cruise lines will just have to be flexible and make last minute decisions on port calls.

You must be talking about the constitution in Panama that's written in pencil😱
