am I destined to dine at a table for one each night?

    Dear Confused,

No, not at all. Once on board go see the maitre d' of your assigned dining room ASAP. Let them know you are travelling solo and would like to sit with others. Most often they will ask if you would like to join others also travelling solo, if not, ask for it. I always prefer the conversation with other solos which is usually more fun and or stimulating than being seated with three married couples discussing which lawn fertilizer is best. Good luck and have fun.

If they want to really offer rare finds, I'd like to see them add things like shark, zebra, kudu, bird's nest soup, muktuk, fried tarantula/grasshopper...

Rarer still would be if Carnival purchased any of this "stuff."

Wow, never really considered the steampunk aspect of it

Oh sure, this couple were having their picture taken on Elegant Night before

segueing to Alchemy for a pre-dinner cocktail.

I think the majority of people don't really care.  I am pretty picky when it comes to food items being fresh and not contaminated.  LOL.  You would think someone like me wouldn't even touch the buffet, but it's all about washing hands after handling utensils and getting the untouched food. There's an art to it. 🤣

The butter crock was so disgusting to me, but that's an entirely different thread.

I used Carnival's hand washing machines in the lido for the first time on the Panorama and I liked it a lot. Quick, easy and clean paper towels at the ready to dry your hands and no bathroom door to open as you walked away.

Don't quote me on this but I think this was a common practice on all cruise ships. Even in the movie, "Gentleman Prefer Blondes" with MM and Jane Russel who were embarking on a trans Atlantic to England There was a great scene with a Bon Voyage Party then an announcement over a loud speaker, "All ashore, going ashore". Does anyone remember that?

Yes, we do. Jane Russell threw a Bon Voyage Party in the suite she shared with Marilyn Monroe. Jane hosted the U.S. Summer Olympics Team. The athletes were sailing on the same ship and the athletes girlfriends attended the party but would not be sailing. The girls departed when they heard a glockenspiel being played by a steward roaming the passageways announcing: "First Call, All Visitors Ashore!"

    Thanks for the memory, coffeebean.

True, it's hard to eat the passed hors d'oeuvres while wearing a mask 😉

Actually, that appears to be one of Carnival's strawberry "de-lights" except that berry looks fresh 🙂 I agree with others here and I would forego the platinum gift and the berries for a 2 for 1 coupon in a specialty dining room. We can all dream, cant' we?

Ask Carnival, PVP, TA or whoever you booked with, for an extension of final payment date just to be safe. They have been good about this. CDC is finally relaxing the restrictions and things are shaping up for a restart; especially with ships starting to move back towards U.S. ports.

When in August are you sailing?

Nassau does and that is where he was. The poster is still active on CC to this day and gave a very detailed blog about his experience. I'll see if I can find the thread for you.

Here's where he says he got lucky. I'll say, this was my concern: " Did it cause a HUGE problem, not having one, as someone mentioned? No! Reason: The embassy was close. I can imagine it being a HUGE ordeal if it was a larger country or if the embassy was far away."

    Thanks again, this was helpful.

I was never a fan of "showtime."  To avoid it is one of the reasons I generally go to the lido buffet for supper.  If it were to stop, for whatever reason, I might eat in the MDR more.  But I know others like it, and if it continues, I'm not put out by going to the buffet.

There is less of a chance in YTD of seeing the floor show. We like the buffet some nights but we don't avoid the MDR now because of showtime with YTD.

I remember the first time I experienced this and saw actual food flying off people dirty napkins across the room and thinking who thought this was a good idea.

Describe the flying food, please. Was it from the appetizer course, the entree, the dessert or a combination of all? Did the person twirling the napkin have more than one entree? If it was elegant night and the twirler had more than one lobster tail they could take an eye out!

I don't think for a second that Carnival would risk employee or passenger lives.

You should see the video of a meeting yesterday of the major cruise industry leaders with the governor of Florida discussing how to get the CDC to back down. The attendees are sitting at a hollow square shape conference table with Christine Duffy having just 18 inches of distance between herself and the attendees on either side of her. The kicker is that no one seated at the conference table is wearing a mask.

If Carnival wants the CDC to cooperate perhaps Christine Duffy and all in attendance should have shown they were willing to work with basic CDC guidelines for distancing and the wearing of masks.
