  1. Did not know T1 and T2 were getting parking garages. Where? Wander what this will do to the offsite parking companies.
  2. That's a big uptake in rooms for Royal. The 2nd ship doing milk runs will be Navigator size. Wasn't too long ago, Navigator was the main ship serving Galveston. This with an Oasis class coming, new state of the art terminal, Royal is taking the gloves off against Carnvial in Galveston. IMO, a matter of time before we hear about Carnival building their own new terminal in Galveston.
  3. This is awesome news, the second ship will be Navigator size. Will this coincide with the new terminal opening?
  4. https://www.afar.com/magazine/worlds-coolest-travel-jobs-what-its-like-to-be-a-cruise-ship-captain To answer your question the other "women" and men captains will get their chance at an Edge class ship. Assignments according to Capt. Kate are for two years. As to "why"her, why not? She is qualified and it doesn't hurt that she cultivated and nurtured her brand. A corporation would be wise to take advantage of it. Its doesn't slight the other qualified captains and their capabilities.
  5. With the rush for better efficiency cutting through the water using air bubbles and new bow designs (or recycled), kind of funny that grates would cover the big holes (to the water anyway) on the side of the hulls and as drag when moving forward.
  6. Lines coming down, Celeb is getting ready to leave. Being very careful with the lines near the bow.
  7. Hate to be on that conference call to Miami explaining what happened. Let the finger pointing begin.
  8. PTZ now has a video of when the incident occured. https://www.keywestharborwebcam.com/ Click on expand map and twitter feed near bottom.
  9. Those of us who cruise out of Galveston often have read and heard of rumors for YEARS that an Oasis class ship was coming. It took 10 years but its happening. To read that RCL is looking at bringing a new Icon class ship right off the bat is pretty exciting stuff. Will it be the first? Who knows, will Miami or Ft Lauderdale have their LNG infrastructure up by then? No one knows, maybe Galveston will. Exciting times for sure though. After watching Carnival base three ships at Galveston, RCL is finally getting into the game. How will Carnival respond to this news? Does Galveston has its flaws? Yes, it will never have the convenient airport to port experience that FTL offers. The shuttle operators between the Houston airports and Galveston cruise port will have step their game up to deal with increased traffic. And the long term parking is going to have to get better (though I like Galveston Cruise Parking with their hokey old school buses as shuttles). But as SSB so eloquently posted it is the gateway to middle America and happens to be placed in one of and near some of the fastest growing metro areas in the country.
  10. This- New details have emerged about the new Royal Caribbean Terminal 3 coming to Galveston, TX in 2021. Royal Caribbean CEO Michael Bayley confirmed interest in relocating not only an Oasis-class ship to Galveston, but also a new Icon-class ship. This is huge news for the Texas cruise market. Most new ships sail from the East Coast, so for Royal Caribbean to be planning a new terminal with an Oasis-class ship and a new Icon-class ship represents a major investment in the Gulf Coast cruise market, which is currently dominated by Carnival Cruise Line. http://setsailblog.com/new-details-about-galveston-cruise-terminal/

  12. If I may quote Etta James," AT LASSSSSSSSSSSSSSST" In essence they are copying Carnival, but I was hoping they could mix in Coco Bay with Jamaica and Grand Cayman and skip Cozumel. But hey I take it.
  13. Cool, its about time. Maybe cruises to the Bahamas might be a regular schedule since Carnival has shown its possible to do it in 7 days.
  14. Ok, just read the Forbes article and the CEO states it herself that Captain Kate will be on the Edge in 2019 "Women at the Helm: ”We’ve just hired our third woman captain at Celebrity, which is a big deal,” says Lutoff-Perlo. “Captain Kate McCue will be taking over this ship as captain in 2019."
