It’s not based on hindsight it’s based on knowing when to take a big profit when you have a chance. Every time I buy a stock, I have an exit strategy. When it goes up, I put a stop loss order in to preserve some of the gains. I also have a target price to sell, but don’t put a sell order in until I think it’s getting ready to peak. As it gets closer to the target price I reevaluate the potential of the stock and if I think it will continue to rise, I’ll adjust the target to sell. I’m somewhat covered both ways up or down.

So, if you would have sold near the top, and took the $10,000 profit, you would immediately by the stock back to get the $100 - $200 obc? Why don’t just use the money from your stock sale and let the remaining money grow. At $200 a cruise, the profit would cover you for 50 cruises before it’s gone, if you aren’t making any money on interest or anything.

    Whatever floats your boat.

    Bye.

A lot of what you say makes sense but how come you don't have to pay taxes on your gains?

If people are buying at the higher prices then why would the cruise lines lower the prices???

Seriously? Maybe because they think they will sell more packages at the lower price than at the higher price, to the point that they make a larger total profit. The same reason many, not all, things go on sale.

Correct, this is the newest version of the fake sale that all the prices on my two upcoming cruises are the same as yesterday, except for a few dollars off the unlimited dining and the combined drink package with voom.

This "sale" saved me $85 for two packages from the price I purchased at yesterday.

$1200 is still a ridiculous amount to pay for a week of alcohol.

Susan, so sorry to hear of your friends' sorrow and suffering.  We all need better days ahead.

And the monthly condo fees are less than $400.  Less than $1200 per month, including taxes, insurance and HOA fees!  Only downside for Sid - it's in California!

Add in PMI unless he has 20% to put down.

There does need to be some balance.

We could save over 30,000 lives a year by banning all automobile traffic.  But the economic consequences would be devastating and we as a society have chosen that we would rather have the cars and attempt to reduce the death toll with airbags than completely shut down society.

    Extreme examples:

The same balance needs to be taken with Covid 19, if shutting down for two weeks will save tens of millions of lives than it is worth it.

If preventing 50,000 people in their 80s from dying a year or two premature requires shutting down for 9 months driving the country into a depression worse than 1929, the we should let them die, just like we do with auto victims.

Obviously we are somewhere in between those two examples.  But as trade offs go, cruise ships have proven to be the antithesis of social distancing and offer only minor benefits to society.  They should remain closed even after schools reopen and other portions of society begin to return to normal.

For example, I would allow professional sports to begin competing in front of cameras and a TV audience well before I would allow a return of thousands into a stadium.  I would open stores well before permitting gatherings such as NYE in Times Square.  There does need to be some balance.

Auto example is wrong on so many levels. Transportation deaths would still occur no matter how you choose to travel. Bicycle, horse, plane, skateboard, walk, camel...deaths would occur with all these.

@eroller Is that a picture from onboard now? Looks like a really nice space now that it’s in use and the furniture in place . Possibly one of the best lidos decks of any ship. Think the purple loungers give an air of Premier Inn.

With room for 20-25 of those purple loungers only 50 people will get the experience of a Premier Inn.

Hopefully the rest of the day goes better than it has so far... First thing this morning, I pick up my phone to turn it on, and it crashes to the ground... Luckily no apparent damage... Then, I realized that I haven't received my phone bill or two other credit card bills in my po box and this month. The idiots at the post office put other people's mail in my box all the time, so I can only assume that my bills have been misplaced in someone else's box... Then, to top it all off, I go out to my car this morning, and there's ice on the inside of the windshield... It took me ten minutes to clear it off good enough to make it one mile to work...

Sounds like the usual crap we all deal with every day. Actually doesn't sound bad at all.

If you cracked your phone screen, had your cell service turned off and a cracked windshield then it wouldn't be a great

start to the day but still manageable since it's Friday and you probably have a $100 meal from Mom coming up soon.

The trend is -  prices after the sale will either be higher, lower or stay the same.  If you find a fare that appears reasonable to you for the trip you want, book it.  If the price drastically drops later, (depending if final payment has been made or not) your TA might be able to assist you in getting a reduction.

OP, if you want actual information look at Hoopster's response and ignore this.

So my cough is still lingering, even though I feel better today than the last 12 days.

Well anyway, I had a coughing fit right in the elevator and of course it was packed full. One lady was so close I could almost feel her butt rubbing against my, well… You get the idea.

Anyhow Lisa snapped this photo of her.  I think she’s afraid that she might catch something.

Lisa should have told her that I have the Dengue Fever. They did just have another case reported in Miami.

The nerve of that lady to not want to catch what has made you feel like crap for two weeks.
