  1. I am traveling on the Dawn with a baby, and have received a liquid exemption from NCL allowing me to bring on bottled water. I plan to bring a 24 pack of bottle water. Can I check this in with my bags (I will tape a copy of the email exemption to the side of the case of water) or do I need to carry it on? It would be a lot easier if I could just check it with my bags.

Another cruiser earlier posted about NCL giving her free water bottles for her & her baby. Perhaps you might want to email NCL again to see if they can provide the water bottle to you rather than you bring it on board or ask them if you should check it in or carry it on.

  2. Yes, it's a bummer that the ship always has to wait for the folks that booked their travel arrangements through NCL and are running late. (Another reason not to book through them.)

But......wink wink;p nod nod .........If you're desperate for a sail-away photo opp you can miss the muster drill and do a make-up later.....sometimes the next day. (Just don't spread that around. There may be a mutiny.)

Yes, people that missed the first muster drill must make-up the next day or else they would be off the ship (which was mentioned, but I do not know if this is really true?). Most first timers that are new to cruising would attend the first muster drill including those that follow the rule. ;p

  3. Am looking into this itinerary for the first time and am alittle overwhelmed. Any and all information on itinerary would be appreciated.

Am looking for the "best" itinerary amongst the three lines listed above. Any and all opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Also looking to go the first half of October when I do go. Is that a good time?

    Pooh

It really depends on these things:

1.) the port you wanted to departure from (NYC/Boston)

2.) the ports you wanted to see on the cruise trip (Halifax, Quebec City, etc)

3.) the cost of the cruise as well as if there are any promotions

4.) ship activities / pool size

    5.) dining options

  4. We're in Sydney on a Saturday. Are there any options for tours from the dock. Not comfortable with doing rental car after hours drop-off.

There are not enough activities or much things to do near the port where the cruise ship docked.

They recommend people to either rent a car on their own to explore outside Sydney or to take a shore excursion from the cruise ship.

Here's two sites on what things to do in the port of Sydney:

    https://www.cruisecritic.com/ports/newport.cfm?ID=604

    http://www.sydneyport.ca/cruise/things-to-do/

  5. We were just on Halifax and Saint John a little over a month ago. I was going to get some CAD before we left on the cruise but never did. We found that within the touristy areas at least shops and restaurants gladly too US currency. The only caveat we ran into once or twice was that if we got change back from a cash sale we got it on CAD.

Yes, most tourist areas in Canada accepts US Dollars. Like you already mentioned, if you got any change back - it would be CAD and in this case - you either turn it back to US Monies when you come back to US or keep it as a souvenir coins. :)

  6. Which- if any, specialty restaurants still serve lobster on the Breakaway. I expect to pay an additional fee for it of course...

Ocean Blue for lobster rolls on the Breakaway.

Teppanyaki - do not know if they still serve some kinds of lobster meal.

Cagney's - they do have lobster and shrimp entrees

I do not know which ports you would be going to, but if you are going to Canada ports, it would be better to eat at a restaurant off board to get lobsters/the real taste.

    Enjoy your cruise.

  7. Yes, Teppenyaki is among the popular specialty dining as they only have limited seating and it would be a good experience to see the chef cooking/grilling right in front of you.

Then Cagney's - it is well known because of steaks.

Since you have the specialty dining package, you can try each different restaurant or repeat one of the restaurants you like. And you do not need to worry about the a la carte pricing. You are limited to 1 entree, but can have more than 1 desserts.

  8. That's the best part about either getting off or not, it is your call. :)

For most cruisers, they do not get off ports like Port Canaveral, Fl as well as Nassau, Bahamas as they have been there so many times.

There would still be some activities to do on board even though some bars and restaurants might be closed.

The photo gallery as well as some other places would be closed while in port.

  9. If I'm looking at the wine list and it's got 3 symbols on it, as in this handy example, I know that the third one is the bottle price. The first and second are, I assume glass prices.

Does anyone know what the difference is between the two glasses? Size obviously, but how many ounces does each represent? (Feel free to quote milliliters if that works for you.)

Second question - Can you have either size on the UBP as long as it's less than $15?

    Thanks!

    32d38d8c3b27c57bd42cd8ad6667c134.jpg

The first symbol is glass. The next one is glass & a half and the last one as you already known is the bottle pricing.

I do not see why you couldn't get either sizes if it still under $15.00

Under desserts wine it said 375 ml on their menus.

I would assume a glass of wine - it is usually between 5-6oz.And since you have this drinking package, if one glass of wine is not enough.

You can order another glass of wine. :)

Here's a site for more info:

    https://cooking.stackexchange.com/questions/23734/what-is-the-standard-amount-if-there-is-one-for-a-glass-of-wine

  10. Why wait... this is my first cruise ever, also I'm planning this for a coworker and I to go on. I don't want to mess it up

Cancel... I've read a few posts where people tried to cancel but couldn't or they had to pay hefty penalties. So I'm a little leery at least until I can read and fully understand the rules.

Just trying my best to plan a great vacation :-)

Hope your first cruise with NCL will be wonderful.

NCL will always have some kinds of promotion.

It is just that if the promotion is worth it or not depends on the total cost of the cruise fare & what you are looking for.

Right now, the free at sea offer can be combined with the distinctive voyages promotion for certain cruises.

    Free at Sea Promotion:

Studio & Inside: Receive 1 choice of offer and between $25-$50 free onboard spend

Oceanview, balcony & mini-suite: receive 2 choice of offers and between $60-$140 onboard spend

Haven & suites - receive all 5 offers and between $300-$500 free onboard spend

Go to: https://www.ncl.com/cruise-deals to view some other types of promotions.

And NCL might bring down the cost more or have more special offerings like near a holiday like Thanksgiving.

and it depends on the supply & demand.

  11. For all cruises that go to GSC, there are unanswered questions if your cruise is able to make it to the port or not as it is a tender port. It depends on the weather as well as if the captain say if it is safe to go or not. If not able to go - it also depends on the captain - some cruises will arrive at Nassau earlier or it can be another sea day in the ocean. They can also changed their plan just as having all people go back to the cruise ship earlier if they see a bad storm coming. They will announce it to let everyone know of their plan.

  12. I'm sorry I was u clear. I am looking for cruises where 3rd and 4th are free in a cabin. I do it see any for 2018. I was wondering if they showed up closer to sailing dates.

There is already some cruises where the 3rd and the 4th are free in a cabin.

To find these cruises, on ncl -under cruise search & then under specials - just click on free extra guests available.

For 2018 - Jan to June cruises.

For July-Dec - later on in 2017 or early of 2018

If you are looking for other cruises that offer this, I do not know the answer. They can change the promotion at anytime.

For example, one of the cruise I looked at - they did not have the distinctive voyages promotion but it was later added on and the price increased.

  13. I do not know if they still have the White Party or the Glow Party.

White Party - pack some white clothes. But other cruisers that dressed in other colors beside white are still able to participate.

Beside this, there is one night on the cruise where most cruisers dressed up to take a photo with the captain.

Have fun on your cruise!! :)

  14. Currently our arrival time is 10:30 to 11:00. Does it make any difference if we are later? We are hoping to show up later to avoid long waits in the terminal.

    TIA

No differences if you arrived earlier or later than your scheduled time.

It just that you need to be on board at least 2 hours before the departing time.

  15. I have a cruise coming up on the GEM in January and a cruise on the Breakaway in February and there are not many port excursion choices listed.

I don't recall NCL waiting so long in posting their excursions or perhaps I'm mistaken.

Has anyone else noticed this delay on their cruises.... upcoming or previous?

I believe NCL will show more port excursions when your cruise is less than 90 days.

However you can call NCL Shore excursion desk to ask & to have them book those shore excursions you are looking to go on if available. The number is 1.866.625.1167 (US & Canada), or 0845 201 8907 (UK guests). European guests can call +49 611 3607.

  16. My DH's birthday is the day we board the ship. I always get the birthday package with the room decorated and the birthday cake for birthdays onboard, but I would like to plan something else for him. We will be on the Escape. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks:D

    Some suggestions:

At any of the dining restaurants - can tell them to have a cake & to sign Happy Birthday.

Port days - get off the cruise ship to plan some surprises if possible like write Happy Birthday on the beach

Shore excursions - plan something if possible

The room - it would already be decorated with birthday stuff if buying the package from NCL.

But you can also add more things to it by buying items & do it while he not in the room to give a big surprise if any.

  17. We are going on the Gem. DH loves sushi. Will it be worth it to use a dining credit there? Is everything included?

I cannot answer your last two questions.

I can only provide you the link to the faq of specialty dining: https://www.ncl.com/specialty-dining-package/faq

IN WHICH VENUES WILL MY SPECIALTY DINING PACKAGE BE HONORED?

Specialty dining packages are honored in Cagney's Steakhouse, Moderno Churrascaria, Teppanyaki and our French, Mexican and Italian restaurants across the fleet. Guests who have purchased the package may also choose to dine in other select à la carte priced restaurants, entertainment-based restaurants, Bayamo, Pincho Tapas Bar, and Ocean Blue restaurants, for the following per person upcharges:

    • The Supper Club - $15 USD
    • Ocean Blue - $15 USD
    • Bayamo - $15 USD
    • Cirque Dreams/Illusionarium - $10 USD regular seats/$15 USD premium seats/$35 USD VIP seating on Breakaway
    • Sushi -$7 USD
    • Raw Bar - $7 USD (does not include Seafood Plateau. If ordered, the upcharge is to be waived)
    • Pincho Tapas Bar - $7 USD

As you see - there would be a $7.00 up-charge for Sushi.

  18. Hi,

My friend and I will spend some time (and hopefully make a little money) at the casino in the evenings. However, I am not looking forward to carrying cash or paying for the ATM fees. Will the cruise line cash a Cashier's check?

    Thanks in advance.

  19. Good Day,

We want to try NCL next year. I could use some help in choosing a ship. What are some of your favorite ships and why?

It really depends on which port you are looking to depart from as well as what cruise ship is scheduled to be doing that route.

For now, the NCL Gem is going to still be at the NYC port but will be changed to another port later on.

And the NCL Joy is marketed to the Asian market "NORWEGIAN JOY IS DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR THE CHINESE MARKET, AND AS SUCH, MAY NOT BE THE BEST FIT FOR ALL CONSUMERS. PLEASE CALL 1-800-377-9383 TO SPEAK WITH A CRUISE CONSULTANT AND LEARN MORE ABOUT NORWEGIAN JOY."

I cruised on the NCL Breakaway - it a very huge ship with up to 4,000+ cruisers & their staffs.

Look on NCL site to see which cruise ship might interested you depending on the activities you are looking to do and certain restaurants. For example, the NCL Breakaway have Ocean Blue but NCL Gem does not have Ocean Blue.
