  1. When I first saw this thread about an eclipse cruise, I thought this thread should be moved to the Celebrity board.
  2. Norwegian would have the staffing to continue the sailing if they raised salaries and benefits to the staff--for the cruise that you already paid for. If I sign a 12-month rental agreement with a tenant for $x per month, and then the real estate market goes up, I am still on the hook for the 12 months. I don't get to just tear it up and have the tenant re-sign it at a new rate.
  3. I did it on a Prncess B2B, but I also did it on embarkation today on a Princess, and what was nice about it was that they stowed our luggage for us and we just waltzed right onto the ship. No lines, no nothing. Those were all gone earlier in the day. The excursion usually (always?) makes sure you get back before the big boat departs, because there are others on the same boat.
  4. Meanwhile back at home, my armpit hairs fall out after a few minutes of sun exposure. That's just great.
  5. You bet only a penny, so you lose only a dollar or two, which is less than I would have lost playing Galaga.. It's not rocket science.
  6. That's why I brought up Millers Landing. Availability. Beggars can't be choosers. I kayaked into town a couple times. Not my normal commute.
  7. Pepsi came from North Carolina, Coke came from Georgia. I think this is the end of my rope, I'm not doing Norwegian anymore.
  8. I might have arranged a cruise or two that didn't quite fall exactly on our anniversary or birthday, and so I, um...may have moved the occasion over by a couple days just to make the waiters in the MDR all embarrass the DW. I'm not saying I did, not saying I didn't.
  9. It's a pseudo-random number generator. Unless you get down to the quantum physics level, there is no way for the slots to be truly random. And I doubt casino operators have much incentive to create quantum slot machines. The RNG has to be some algorithm proprietary to the manufacturer; who may in turn give some degree of control to their customer, the casino.
  10. Nope. Poseidon Adventure is realistic. And the Incredible Hulk could have righted that ship any day. That's my story and I'm stickin to it.
  11. I just find penny slots a little brainless, and how do you comp free cruises with it? After all, besides that you're not wagering much, how can you beat the house by pulling a slot on a computerized machine, which the casino controls the random seed? Granted, sometimes on vacation you just want to turn off your brain for awhile, but....
  12. Poseidon Adventure? Which way is "further down"? 🙂
  13. Hey, comping a cruise in a few hours without losing money, I am all for. I just require a lot more convincing when i see so many bright lights and stuff the casino somehow can afford after giving away all those cruises.
  14. I believe the muster stations are tied to how many people can fit in the lifeboats. In an emergency, though, where it's sinking so fast that you cannot possibly save everybody, then I imagine it's anyone's game.
  15. Your bridge runs on batteries? A battery-operated drawbridge--that truly is extraordinary.
  16. Well there is "teach a man to fish...".
  17. I wasn't really looking for a definition of an advantage player. But since others on the thread are getting tired of the subject I will simply leave it at this: Okay, so you claim to have a strategy that consistently beats the house. Everybody does. Otherwise they would not be stepping into that casino. And yet the casino remains open for business, there are all these expensive machines, paid staff.... I'm inclined to believe the vast majority of those people are wrong.
  18. People decorated their doors on my recent NCL cruise.
  19. A few of the rentals are that. Even the low-end ones have plumbing. It's more that you are located near Millers Landing (who is basically an outfitter who happens to rent out cabins), and your lack of proximity to the rest of town.
  20. The pop med journals say large amounts of zinc in your body can cause copper deficiency, anemia, lower good HDL cholesterol level, lowered immunity, and nervous system damage. I realize you are applying it topically, but it's possible your body absorbs it; especially if you are rubbing it in that hard. I generally try to keep sun block to the minimum needed, since I'm trying to balance the harm from rubbing chemicals in general on my body vs. the harm from the sun rays.
  21. I will just share this in case it helps: my very first time sailing Alaska, I wanted to do the dogsledding more than anything--AND I coughed at the price. For that price I decided to just fly to Toronto in the late winter and do some actual dog sledding on some real snow (not just some melting glacier in the summer) in central Ontario. I got an entire vacation for not much more than the price of just that one shore excursion. Dogsledding for 5 hours on frozen lakes and where you have to wear snowshoes to walk anywhere felt far more authentic. I only missed on the helicopter part.
  22. I might have outdated information, but careful making that drive out to Millers Landing. Patience. Lots of potholes; you have to drive slow. If you're not outdoorsy, Millers Landing may not be for you; other than they might actually have availability and they do have good, unspoiled waterfront.

    Icy Straight

In a perfect world, I would book whale watching in Icy Strait and do something else in Juneau. I assume that is not a real option for you, so I will say the whale watching in Juneau is still good. Icy Strait, well...your other options run a little thin. Others here have already cited the majority of them. In the shops, there are a few items that are local to Hoonah (and not just cheesy stuff they shipped in from elsewhere). But you have to look for them. Our Tlingit tour guide who led us on bear watching has a few purses in the shops. This is her livelihood.
  24. You mean BETWEEN Anchorage and Seward--and not Anchorage or Seward? Have you tried Millers Landing? They are in Seward (sort of). Cabins overlook Resurrection Bay, I would see rainbows out the window. Rustic, but kayaking, fishing, and boating are right there. I liked it, but you have to be okay with the location and the less-than-numerous nearby food options.
  25. I think the exact words my ex-CMO told me were, "When you're in engineering, you can say it the way things are, but when you're in marketing, everything is wonderful."
