  1. It's a formal night. Wearing formal stuff on a formal night does not disparage others. The question was asked whether you should wear your military medals on a cruise. I say, you are certainly free to. But don't expect me to look up to you for it. If, however, you reach out to the waiting staff and crew on a formal night, get to know their lives, and try to make their job easier--then I am impressed.
  2. Okay--I include elementary school gold stars as equivalent. Are we good?
  3. Not stirring anything. A question was asked, and I answered it. Sorry if it's not the answer you like. Of course not. You want to be "special". You want your thing that you are proud of to be more special than everyone else's. I'm sorry, but if the cruise degenerates into a bunch of high school kids wearing their letter jackets, trying to impress people they don't even know with patches showing how they're better than everyone else, that makes me look down on them--not up. You want a special case for only military medals. Condescending. Thus I stand by what I said all the more. Perhaps you don't understand what a fashion statement is: it is not about what is going on in YOUR head. It is what is going through everyone else's heads when they see what you want everybody to see. You look down on people like that, and that makes me look down on you. Not up. Likewise. Correction: no type of US military medal that SHOULD be offered for murderous conduct. There is plenty of controversy out there about that. At least when I earned my medals--which I am not even showing off on any cruise--the way I earned them is very simple: there is a stopwatch. The stopwatch stopped before everyone else's did.
  4. Since the question was asked.... I generally frown on wearing anything that is not egalitarian. It's a cruise--you're with a bunch of people you don't know. I'm not a fan of the different-colored medallions--and I'm not a fan of wearing medals. I earned my medals running 5k and 10k, too, and after the race i would wear those; but I certainly wouldn't pack them on a cruise. Second, people from other nationalities are on cruises. Do they wear their medals, too? People can earn their medals in pretty disgusting ways in other countries' militaries. And arguably it happens in the U.S., too. I'm not against people making fashion statements, but beat-the-Joneses is not one of them. This falls in that category.
  5. Here's the thing, though: that would make sense.
  6. Is this discount only for the actual teacher, or is it for the stateroom? I supposed Christmas/New Years is all blacked out--like--you know--when the teachers aren't actually teaching?
  7. "Scare" is not the word. More like acting in your own best interest. If you think you might have covid, you can trust yourself to act responsibly more than you can trust Princess. So if you have room in your luggage, maybe pack a home self-test. I'm sure only comments advocating that you see the ship's health center if you are feeling symptoms will be allowed, but you will not be hearing any such comment from me.
  8. Are all the public buses running on Grand Cayman? I show a free bus going around Georgetown and 3 routes going around the West End, but all the websites I'm seeing seem to have been last updated in 2021. Looking to go from the ship to the Turtles and from there walk to Hell. thanks!
  9. My DW got to sleep in the same cabin with me when I was quarantined, and I don't know how she did it but somehow I always had food. Part of it was the buffet line, and part of it was her befriending our cabin steward. What would plant me in the "shame on Princess" camp is that they had these quarantine protocols for quite awhile before Covid was a thing. It's not like Covid was an entirely brand new thing to them.
  10. In your opinion, is MDR on Princess Cay day the best idea? My first time to Princess Cay--I understand Princess serves food to the passengers off the ship--although it might be more the burgers-and-pizza type than the MDR. But you're out on the beach, so....picnic food out on the beach might be better than waiting in line on the ship.
  11. This was on a cruise before Covid. They quarantined me simply for having something contagious. The reason I reported I was symptomatic was simple: you go to the doctor thinking they will help heal you. That didn't happen--they sent me back to my cabin, said I had to quarantine up to 24 hours after my last normal temperature reading, and billed me several hundreds of dollars for it.
  12. Nonstop attempts to nickel-and-dime you--that is just part of the cruise fare experience with the mainstream lines. No different than the truck stops who offer cheap gas and then offer to sell you $5 grilled cheese sandwiches and $3 soft drinks, or the timeshares who offer you a whale of a deal provided you sit through a 90-minute presentation. You just have to walk away from all the nickel-and-dimes. This being one. The problem is there is always that one family member in your party who is not good with money.
  13. I got quarantined in my own cabin. I was highly symptomatic, so I really didn't care about the jail part--I didn't feel like going anywhere at all.. What made me mad was the hundreds of dollars the ship's health center charged me--and did nothing for me, but issue a quarantine. Such a raw deal. I would have been better off if I had never gone. If we have a "responsibility" to go get tested if we think we might be sick, that is one thing, but charging us all that just for the "right" to get quarantined is a bit much.
  14. My app says we are Blue lane, and I am Platinum. I'm guessing Blue lane is good?
  15. How is everybody getting tested after/during the cruise at all? Is there something I don't know? I thought you only needed to produce a negative covid test prior to boarding. If you asymptomatic, why even test at all?
  16. Kennedy Center is not what it used to be. Back before 9/11 you used to be able to go right up to the actual stuff, like the shuttle platform. Now there's all this homeland security stuff, and they don't let you anywhere close. You look through a window 100 yards away, and see a lot of exhibits with TV's. It's just not the same.
  17. Wait, is that a CVS I see on Google Maps right next to Four Points, Hyatt Place and Embassy Suites? Couldn't you just book an appointment for a covid test right there?
  18. Hi, I've never been to Amber Cove before, but online I'm finding two ziplines: Monkey Jungle, and Country World Adventures. Anyone do either of these ziplines and know more about them? It seems CW is more of an adventure park and offers several other adrenaline activities, while Monkey Jungle's other activities are more benevolent in nature. But what about the zip lining itself? Any big difference between the two (or if they're even open to cruise passengers)?
  19. Do we need to pre-book most excursions for Princess Cay? Or can we just go and find stuff? Particularly, I'm interested in the clear-bottomed kayak rentals. They appear on the Princess excursions page, but I find it hard to believe that you can't just walk up to the rental place and go.
