Again that is a Royal class ship where the buffet is almost double the size of Grand class ships   On the few occasions I sail Royal class I have used it on occasion but mostly sail Grand class due to itineraries and noise levels

We've done as many of the Royal class ships as the others and for our money the most important thing is the food, so we'll be staying with the Royal class (and newer).

Yes, they do have problems with noise in the Piazza but we work around it without much effort and still get to experience the newer options that class offers.

Itineraries don't mean that much as we sail the Caribbean most times with the ship being our destination.

The one I had wasn't too bad.  Certainly not a Crown Grill level steak (no smoked salt to sprinkle on 😒) but it wasn't a Golden Corral/Sizzler level steak either.

We've had the included steak a couple of times and it's hit or miss with the quality & flavor.

I remember the fettuccine Alfredo served in the large parmesan bowl.  It was delicious.  Caesar salad used to be prepared tableside.  Celebrity had memorable food before RCI took over now it is just better than OK.  Things have changed.

As you noticed, many things have changed over the years and not for the better. Fettuccine Alfredo used to be great, now it's just passable under the guise of being more healthy.

Ate at Sabatini’s last night on Discovery.   Sat down at 5:20, finished dessert at 6:45 with plenty of time to get great seats at the theater for the 7:30 show.

Never have had a problem with overly longer dinner service.   If there’s something we want to do, we tell the waiter how long we have and they’ve always expedited service.

There's even a setting on the new app for what length of dinner service you prefer.

You must be really fast eaters.

BTW- did they let you order more than one of their appetizers without charging you extra?

if ships are like buildings, the new stuff especially in first year or two have highest chance of breaking down, much moreso than older equipment.

there's usually a sweet spot around 5-15yrs for chillers in multi unit buildings i find

but if had to choose/predict, i'll choose older over brand new (~2yrs or less) for reliability

It's a good thing we all don't prefer the same type ships, otherwise the prices would be higher than they are now. 😄

We had a reservation each night in the MDR at 5:40 but I suppose we could have tried showing up to dine earlier. Not sure how they handle that.

Even though you would be slightly earlier they still would have seated you.

From what I've seen the times are only approximate, especially the earlier ones.

I have a 20 year old car.  Nothing has ever happened that wasn't caused by a collision.

Think of all the money I've saved in car payments, increased insurance and oil changes.  I bought the $300 lifetime oil package when we bought the car!  Oil changes, fluid refills, tire rotations and complete inspections every 3 months.  Still get 43 mpg.

I'm happy with my car and will drive it until it dies.

Congrads. Wish you many more miles.

Yes. We were on Discovery January 13-20 and MDR service was very slow. We had a table for 2 at 5:40 in Ketchikan. The first night was 1h 50 minutes which caused us to miss the first show, but we assumed this was the 'first night chaos'. The next nights were at least 1h 30 minutes. One night we tried ordering dessert with the other courses thinking it would help speed things up, only to have the waiter return with menus after the main course asking us about ordering dessert (this must have thrown off his routine). The last night in the MDR we were out in just over 60 minutes but we skipped dessert to ensure we'd have time to grab drinks and get decent seats for the show.

We used a credit at the Gastropub one evening and the service was very slow there also, to the point that pax were verbally complaining. I would have been very unhappy if we paid for that.  We had good service at Gigi's for lunch on the last day.

Other than occasionally refilling water glasses, drink service while dining was non-existent. We each bring a starter cocktail or glass of wine, but no one ever offered to refresh them. My wife ordered coffee with desert one night and it did not show up until well after we were finished eating.

They seemed to be understaffed and frustrated. We agree the food on this cruise was very good though, which helped make up for the slow service. We are new to Princess and liked everything else about the cruise.

Just a thought, but if you were consistently late for the show, why not arrive a little earlier so you can get a decent seat.

Rust is going to happen to any ship in water, period.

Mattresses have to be replaced periodically anyway. You can have a 3 year ship with bad mattresses verses a 20 year ship where every cabin can have brand new mattresses.

A lot of the plumbing issues that happen on ships are related to acts of passengers.

AC units fail all the time.

I think up keep is necessary but I will not discount an older ship due to air conditioning as I have been on enough newer ships with AC issues and plumbing issues.

Sure, things can happen to new ships just like the old ones but considering the age of the older Princess ships, I'll take my chances with the newer ones. Been there, done that many times to learn it for myself.

That's why I get rid of my car every few years. Even with maintenance, the older they are the more that goes wrong.

On 2 days we gave up and went to the buffet. That was not much help. On both days, the carving station had baked chicken and pork roast.

What has happened to variety? It used to be hard to decide what to eat...not anymore.

The smaller the ship, the smaller the selections at the buffet.

I'm surprised they even had two to choose from. 😉

I have had air conditioning issues on newer ships as well. It can happen on any ship.

Yes, it can happen on any ship at any time but considering the age of those older ships, it more likely to occur as well as plumbing blockages and overall appearances such as rust, sagging mattresses, wear and tear, etc.
