  1. It's actually very quiet for a while provided you're among the first group to board.
  2. That's fine. As long as they're permitted. Who cares. The most important thing is they're given the choice.
  3. And they almost had me convinced that everyone was dressing formally. 😄
  4. Perhaps. Although I don't plan on a cruise there anytime soon, it's still good to know. We like the laid back, relaxing trips to the Caribbean, Alaska or Mexico .
  5. No thanks, no bears for me.
  6. So you're saying that there were no guys without a least a suit jacket? Hard to believe.
  7. I didn't see that....just reservations for a private table. If there are any delays in being seated the show lounge will definitely be getting crowded.
  8. We'll all be surprised at the number of people willing to pay the extra.....just because they're on a cruise. 😄
  9. That standard information is only for those formalists who like to quote the "standard" old Princess dress codes written many years ago. Of course if you want to accept that as being gospel then you don't have to read any further. The OP wanted to know "my question, is it absolutely required to wear a suit or sportcoat on formal nights? "
  10. That in itself explains a lot. Cruising in that part of the world seems to be a completely different experience. People who enjoy that style of cruising should be quite satisfied.
  11. It seems hard to believe that they wouldn't issue a cruise card (in place of a medallion) to someone that had a pacemaker. Perhaps a misunderstanding?
  12. I agree with that thinking but I doubt if the Maître D' would think so. They have enough trouble seating people as it is without that segregation.
  13. You honestly have me with that question. My husband wears shorts about 11+ months out or the year here in Florida and I can only remember 2 times he wore them in the DR. One time it was so cold he even regretted it. His attire now consists of 2 pairs of jeans (1 black for formal night 1 blue for casual) and various shorts. I personally couldn't care less what people wear since the quality of the food is thee most important thing that concerns me. If people like shorts for dinner, so be it. It works for breakfast and lunch, so why not dinner?
  14. It wasn't that way on the Enchanted in Feb., but maybe things have changed. Not that I can't go to the bar myself. 😉
  15. Seem fair enough. Except that shorts are unofficially OK on Princess for casual evenings.
  16. We always check out the buffet as often they have a favorite of my husbands and he would be disappointed to miss it. It's never crowded if you make it a point to get on the ship early. Unpacking comes next- we carry all our luggage on with us. No use to leave things folded in the suitcase any longer than necessary.
  17. To be fair about it, a photo of the DR should be shown the same night since that's where people want to be casual, not a photo opportunity which attracts people dressed up.
  18. Agreed. I didn't like the area before and unless they block off people passing by it'll still be terrible.
  19. I wouldn't count on that being standard practice in the near future. Ask for some tokens now to save for future cruises.
  20. Of course there are more suits in the photo. I doubt there would be many there for a picture pouring champagne dressed in shorts. 😄 The casual dressers are in the show lounge getting good seats for the production show. 😉
  21. It's not needed but it would probably make switching the input a little easier since you wouldn't have to fiddle around with the center toggle switch. Let us know how it works out for you.
  22. If you read the Princess web site it will indicate that on formal nights people do dress up but that was only true for years past. Perhaps on a European trip many people do choose to follow those suggestions but elsewhere most people these days prefer to be more relaxed on vacation. Forget the suit or jacket. You can just wear a pair of Dockers & a dress shirt or Polo if you wish and no one will say a word. They'll be plenty of guys doing likewise. Although my husband doesn't wear them, even shorts are now common on casual evenings in the DR.
