  1. I'll try to remember to do it. We got a bottle of Chilian Chardonnay in the room.
  2. The day just kept getting funner. We landed about 15 minutes early, pulled up to the gate and waited. And waited. Apparently no one was there to drive the jetway. Finally, after almost 30 minutes, the gate person came on and made announcements (my comment - stop talking and let us off). Eventually we got off the plane, went through a fairly easy customs, and headed to baggage claim. And waited. The kept announcing. a technical issue with the bags. After about another 30 minutes, bags started coming, well over an hour after landing. We took the air train to our hotel, and that step went pretty easily. I'm currently taking an online technical class, and I was having a very hard time with a lab. A fellow student and our instructor had offered to help, so after arriving in the room, getting settled, and ordering my two free weird concierge appetizers from the restaurant (the lounge was closed so they had a choice of 6 things like nori french fries, spicy chicken wings, green salad, etc) I settled into a zoom session. Apparently, Canada had a major internet outage, and it was certainly affecting things. The internet was slow. so it took about an hour and half from us to determine they couldn't figure out what was wrong either. By this time, it was 7:30, and I'd been up since 5:30 (not sure why), so we decided to go to dinner. I wanted to go to the Old Spaghetti factory, because the one near us had closed (and I love their spagetti with Mizirah cheese), so we walked to Gastown. After a brief wait, we were seated in the trolley car in the restaurant. There was a family across from us with two women and two very cute little girls. As they were finishing up, I heard the mom (her kids and one of her best friends) say "no you can't start a conversation with those people". We said it was fine. So we talked them about various things, the older one (5 yr old) shared that they were going to Disneyland, we said we'd just been and I offered to show them my Frozen costume pictures. They asked if we had Disneyland pictures, so we showed them a bunch of those. It was very sweet and friendly. Next was back to the hotel, another attempt to do the lab, more internet issues, including sites not loading, etc. I gave up and went to bed, after emailing my instructor about not getting anything finished until I got home. Fortunately, he's very flexible. Tomorrow, we get a tour of Vancouver.
  3. ’m back and ready to start another live from thread, and resolved to finish this time. I’m starting this offline from the plane to Vancouver. Usually I start before I leave, but this trip is postponed from May. We had a great rate on a May Alaska cruise with friends, and a week before I got a bad cold. Second morning I tested, and the test line was the color of a red firework. So, we didn’t go. It wasn’t a total loss because it was the California primary, and I’ve been a poll worker for the last several elections. I was scheduled to work 2.5 days after I got back, so when I couldn’t go I was able to work most of the days, which was enough to cover the cost differential. The other reason it wasn’t quite as bad as it could have been was that five days before the cruise, we got an email that Sitka had been replaced by Icy Straights due the ship breaking the dock (thanks Royal Caribbean). So we rebooked onto the first cruise with Sitka back. I’m traveling with DH, Glen, who did not get covid when I did. So I was a bit nervous about covid testing for this cruise. Last night we used two home tests to avoid a nasty surprise this morning and to my relief both negative. Which was good, because while all was well with Glen, I discovered I couldn’t check into the flight. We’d flown United from Vancouver home to SF two months ago and it was fine. This time, they wanted to scan my passport. The scan failed, because my name didn’t match. United, since I joined in the 1980’s has had my middle initial only. I’ve flown many places with that, but now it’s a problem. So I called. The agent helpfully added my middle name and I was good to check in. Checked in, saw my boarding pass and went to bed. This morning, we did the proctored tests (stayed negative) and waited for our ride. He came, and while having a nice conversation on our way to the airport, I noticed I didn’t have TSA precheck. Glad we were early. We went to the kiosk to check in. Glen checked in, but when I put in my Mileage Plus number, it said there were no reservations. Fortunately Glen had my name on his, so he want back in and I got my luggage tag and boarding pass. I didn’t see a way to get precheck in, so I went to the service line, waited about 7 or 8 minutes and she put it in for me. She gave me a new boarding pass and off I went. Security was uneventful, and we headed to the United Club. I scanned my boarding pass, which usually works and has worked even in Air Canada lounges, but didn’t this time. She said I don’t have lounge access. I have the United Club credit card, so it should have. They manually added me and sent me to the service desk, because I’d also fallen off the upgrade list. (We weren’t high enough to get upgraded, but it was concerning). The agent there told me that the name change had disconnected my milage plus number from the reservation. She was able to put it back and gave me a new boarding pass with everything fixed. So three boarding passes. Boarding was fine, plane left a little late because of an issue with the onboard unit that supplies air conditioning and electric while the plane is at the gate, so they were using gate power. That had to be disconnected before we left. It was a little warm until the engine power kicked in, but now we’re on our way.
  4. Meaning what? That the only points that count are sailing points? I guess I’ll know in about two weeks.
  5. I rather enjoy going through the marketing material and answering the questions. Especially since it seems they're in order of appearance, and verbatim from the material. (I think I could have done this one without, I was in the MR in April). Takes about the same amount of time it would to look back at the answers. With one exception. Anyone remember that wellness video that that they did about all their (fill in your own thought) wellness stuff with Goop, etc? That was hard because it was only in a video, not verbatim from a webpage. And as soon as DH takes his day before proctored covid test, I'll know if the PUPs got us to Elite Plus next week, instead of in October.
  6. Does that mean that you'll do it for the second cruise? I'll buy you a drink.
  7. Thanks to this thread, I just ordered air tags. In 2007, we couldn't find DH's bag. We found it with a group's other bags. It was black. Never cruised with black bags again, and we now have distinctive suitcase locks on them.
  8. I think it's because they had to give concierge something for people to book into it. I think they don't get much else - afternoon snacks, access to a concierge, and maybe a helipad sailaway. We originally booked it because it was a last minute booking to replace a May cruise canceled because of Covid, and the price difference between balcony and concierge wasn't much. Original cruise was in Aqua so I was happy that I could get it back for not much more money.
  9. No. Only people who get a lunch on embarkation day are people in suites and concierge. AQ has the same lunch options as everyone else except suites and concierge.
  10. It should be fine, since you get on in Canada, and off in the US.
  11. Yup, I was very nice on the phone, and I think I acknowledged it was a favor. They've been very nice to me on this booking in general. The Travel Agent, who happened to be me, called. They also previously let me reprice the booking for the 60% off sale, sort of. We had the Elevate package on the previous sale, and were able to move to indulge for 6.00 additional. Maybe they still felt sorry for me for having to cancel a May cruise (this is the replacement) due to the pesky red line on the test strip not going away in time.
  12. I had an interesting experience today. I woke up this morning to an email that our move up from Concierge to Aqua was accepted. I took a look at the room (Eclipse) and it was an A1, which is directly below the pool. The A2s are in a better location, as the ones in the aft are below the cabins on the aft of the pool deck. There was one available back there, two ahead of a sofa bed room, which means couch by balcony. I called, and she was (after a while since she had to price protect us, because we had a move up to an A1) able to give us that room. All well and and good, until I got home that afternoon, and realized that we'd lost 600.00 of OBC for indulge. We still, however had the premium wifi and drinks. Another call and 30 minutes of waiting for him to figure it out, and it's all fixed. So check your perks, as it shouldn't have happened. BTW, we did a pretty minimum bid, as getting Blu was worth something, but not a lot to me. Did lose the embarkation lunch though.
  13. Ship: Eclipse Length of Cruise: 7 night Cruise Sail Date: 10 July 2022 Date email offer received: 5/31. Was given an A1, but TA (me) called and moved to a better location A2. NOTE: I had to call again to get them to restore my Indulge OBC.
  14. Thank you. My sister and I were on two with her last year.
  15. If it's Connie from Greece tell her Abby (from Abby & Beth) say hello if you can. Thanks.
  16. I hope they find the luggage. Here's a true story to give you hope. Many years ago, my sister, her now thankfully ex husband and their small daughter went skiing in Utah for a week (they live in NY). It was early March, and my sister being both brilliant and a dingy, didn't realized DST kicked in, and they missed their flight (ex wasn't a big believer in getting to the airport early. They booked through SF to New York on United, but then changed to a nonstop on a different airline. They made it but their luggage didn't. The airline had no idea where it was, as they said they never had it. My sister was distraught, not because of all the expensive skis, but because the baby Cabbage Patch Kid I'd given my niece when she was born and her stuffed animal (both of which she slept with) were in the luggage. Five days later, she goes into her building, and her doorman tells her a lot of stuff has arrived. Turns out it was all the luggage. Apparently United put it in their lost luggage place and eventually got it sorted out. The toys never traveled again.
  17. I've been in concierge, Aqua and sky suites. Once in a Celebrity suite, because I needed some extra points and there was a significant price drop after final payment. All I got from the X suite was a call from the Shoreside Concierge. I had to request since apparently they called my mom's number instead (?????) I've had great experiences in all. We do like the club and Luminae, so usually we book suites, but in 8 days we leave for the Eclipse in a Concierge balcony. It's a rebook because of Covid, and we couldn't keep the great price we had for Aqua on the original cruise, so we went concierge, but mostly because the price was close to that of a regular balcony and thanks to Power UP I'll be elite + on this cruise. We've used the Chic night show seating, but usually end up moving because we don't really like the seats. In our post covid cruises we try to be away from others.
  18. the little square on the deck plan indicates that it can hold 3, ie sofa bed. Those have the sofa by the balcony. And I've been told that if there's a group without them, count every other from the nearest one with a square.
  19. Thanks for this. We're on the Infinity in March 2023, and I'm a bit nervous. We were on the Summit on her 3rd or 4th cruise in 2021, and it was amazing. I know the Infinity hasn't been revolutionized, but hopefully things will be better when we go.
  20. I just looked and I had a notice about a dining credit (we had a specialty dinner included). We have 7 people in 3 rooms, 5 have a credit, and 2 are in a suite. I selected all 7 (travel companions), and picked a time. The bill showed 203.00 and a dining credit of 203.00 for a total of 0. We booked it. By the way, DH is the card holder so I had to do it on his phone.
  21. We had a cruise in May, but I got Covid about 11 days before, and didn't test negative in time to go. That was covered under the Cruise with Confidence. We then rebooked to mid July. From reading above, we don't have cancel for any reason but if either of us tests positive and we can't go, we will get a refund or FCC. At least that's my read on it. Is that correct?
  22. And to further clarify the PSVA looks at first embarkation and last disembarkation. Getting off and right back on as one usually does with a B2B doesn't satisfy that.
