  1. We took a tour from Messina which was our port in Sicily. we were bussed to Taormina and then did a walking tour all the way to the Greek Theater, I can’t remember if lunch was included but it was a very nice day with beautiful scenery including views of Mount Etna.
  2. No but he was smoking cigars.
  3. At 79 years old we don’t want anything to do with Royal Caribbean and their 6,000 + passenger mega ships with way too many kids. We had a great cruise before the pandemic on the much smaller Rhapsody of the Seas out of Tampa but we will stay with Celebrity and Princess.
  4. Good morning. I haven’t been a fan of HAL for a while, at one time it was our favorite cruise line but I believe the company has lost its way. Yesterday in another thread someone questioned why I continue to post on the Daily Report, maybe they thought I was a hypocrite so this will be my last post on the Daily, it was fun and I really enjoyed interacting with all of you. Have a great day, stay well and safe.
  5. We saw Ann Margaret at Caesar’s Palace in Vegas back in the early 90s and because George Burns discovered her he was seated a couple of tables from us.
  6. Wishing you the best of health.
  7. We are in our late 70s and ports are no longer a priority, we live in Florida and just sail out of ports in Florida to the Caribbean as we are done with flying. For us the ship is the destination with food, entertainment and service being what the cruise is all about. Our last 2 cruises with HAL fell short in all 3, still love HAL ships with the Eurodam still my favorite, maybe someday we will give them a try again but right now as I said before we will stay with Celebrity and Princess.
  8. Yep I’m on just about everyday.
  9. Very interesting to learn about Coco Chanel’s activities during WW II.
  10. Greetings from beautiful Port Charlotte. 77 heading up to 92 and dry again. I loved Root Beer floats but can’t tell you the last time I had one. I’ll have to ask DW about the quote. The meal is a pass. I’m not a martini fan, but I’ll take a Manhattan. Early tee time today. Have a great day, stay safe and well.
  11. Our first cruise was in 1982 and the changes in the cruise industry are just about mind boggling and none for the good, we are 4 Star Mariners and have given up on HAL, they are not close to being the cruise line they were at one time, we will stay with Celebrity and Princess.
  12. We sailed on the MSC Seashore last week and besides MSC now having very good food we had lobster on formal night and truthfully it was the best lobster in our 75 cruises since 1982, it was fairly large and cooked to perfection. We had some problems, powdered eggs were awful in the buffet, in our late 70s the ship was way to big for us and because kids sail for free and still on summer vacation there were way too many of them. Bottom line is that IMHO MSC is a better cruise line than HAL with better food, service and entertainment.
  13. Greetings from beautiful Port Charlotte. 73 this AM with a high of 93 with again low humidity and no rain. Good days. I was a huge fan of Old Blue Eyes and I’m OK with his quote. l love Chicken salad sandwiches. Very good wine selection as we are Robert Mondavi fans especially the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. We have never been to Peru. Have a great day, stay safe and well.
  14. We live in Port Charlotte and we love to sail out of Tampa, yes it’s a shame that HAL stopped sailing from Tampa. The choices are slim pickings with old ships with issues sailing out of there now. Eventually something needs to happen as they keep building bigger ships and the small ships will be gone, the big ships won’t be able to sail under the bridge, a new port will be needed.
  15. Just a short review on our cruise on the Seashore from 8/4-8/11. First of all this was our 6th cruise on MSC but first since before the pandemic. Kudos to MSC as they are finally an American mainstream cruise line, they have really done their homework as we had the best food we’ve ever had on MSC, the service and entertainment were very good also as was interaction with guest services. Some meals in the buffet could have been better, the powdered eggs were awful. The entertainment was also very good but thought it was better on our past cruises on the Divina. The Seashore is a beautiful ship but way too big for our tastes, we are in our late 70s and did way too much walking as they needed a bank of elevators mid ship. 2 banks of elevators on a ship that large is a joke. The ship is also very noisy especially with a large number of kids like we had last week. For the most part the ship was kept very clean except in the buffet where most of the kids were spilling food all over the place, the help just couldn’t keep up. The noise level in the buffet was deafening. We definitely won’t be sailing with MSC again unless we find cruises on smaller ships like the Divina or Magnifica and only in the Caribbean as we refuse to fly anymore, the bad news is MSC plans are for larger ships, no thanks, we will stay with Celebrity and their smaller ships. I’ll try to answer any questions.
  16. Greetings from beautiful Port Charlotte. A cooler 73 this AM with a high of 92 with a slight chance of showers, same tomorrow as I think Ernesto is sucking some moisture and humidity away from Florida, we were dry yesterday also. Meh on the days, not wild about black felines, sorry all you cat lovers but I’m sort of superstitious. I don’t get the quote. Pass on the meal. Off to the diner in a few minutes for a Western Omelette. Have a great day, stay safe and well.
  17. Had to leave early for golf this AM so here’s the first Sports Illustrated, I was correct, that is Hall of Famer Eddie Matthews at bat at Milwaukee County Stadium.
  18. Yep Riverview closed in 1967 and even though I was in the USAF at the time I had heard the main reason it closed. Yes, I remember Santa’s Village, when we first moved from the city to Bloomingale in 1972 we were walking distance from Adventureland. I never heard about betting on the nags at Riverview even though I had an uncle who was a bookle.
  19. I’m pretty sure it’s still open, the last coaster I went on was there and I believe I was around 63 and when I felt my brain moving around in my head, that was it, my roller coaster days were over.
  20. Well you jumped up on this padded rubber seat for 2 and with not much back support and immediately you felt like you were going to fall out on your back. As the Chute made it’s long ascent to the top you held on to the side bar to keep you in place, it felt like it took a long time to get to the top but we had a great view of the city up there.
  21. I remember Old Chicago in Bolingbrook in the southwest suburbs but there was nothing like Riverview Park with great rides like the Parachute Jump which was not only scary but sort of dangerous.
  22. Greetings from beautiful Port Charlotte. 77 this AM with a high of 91. Some good days, I loved Roller Coasters back in the day especially The Bobs at Riverview Park in Chicago along with 5 other Coasters at that great Amusement Park. Pretty funny quote. I’d give the meal a try. IIRC the first cover of Sports Illustrated had Eddie Matthews of the Milwaukee Braves on the cover as the Braves were the hot story in Baseball in 1954 as they were doing great in their first year in Milwaukee after moving from Boston. Off to the course in a few minutes. Have a great day and stay safe and well.
