  1. The last one I did on the NS was the higher priced one and we had a plate with foods that were to pair with the wines. The wine really wasn't discussed and not a mention of pairing with the foods in our plate. Too much time sabering a bottle of champagne. I did meet some very nice people through and we had fun. These events depend on the expertise and communication ability of the head wine person.
  2. Good morning. My DB has stabilized but he is in dreadful shape. Watching him get from the chair to the bed with the help of a nurse and an aide was so hard to see. It took every bit of his strength to stand and do the minimal amount of turning his arms were quivering. He will be in hospital at least through today. His color is better than what I saw on Sunday aided by a pint blood transfusion. I find it malpractice that a surgeon would do surgery on someone who is morbidly obese as my brother is. I just hope that he can recover to the point that he can be chair bound at home sometime. He gets lots of visitors with myself and my 2 sisters and his 2 kids and their spouses. Thanks for the Daily and Fleet Reports. A dark bunch of days I agree. Quote is great. Pass on meal, wine and cocktail but look forward to the photos from our Japan port today. Prayers for all on our care list and for the people of Ukraine.
  3. @smitty34877I hope your husband is back in recovery quickly with good news. @kazuI am praying for you that your foot gets better quickly! @StLouisCruisers and @Quartzsite Cruiser Sandi and Lenda thank you for the wonderful photos of the port in the Shetlands. A place I would love to visit. Thanks for the cute photo of Sadie. We had two trick or treaters last night. First time having trick or treaters since 1994. I have always lived in a quiet area. DB is doing poorly. I thought he would be moved to rehab yesterday but his BP crashed to 39 yesterday. There is a problem with his medications, BP and narcotics were building up in his system. My niece said they gave him Narcan to clear the narcotics quickly. Sounds like some kind of kidney issue to me since it is unusual for those drugs to build up. Oh and he is bleeding again. I hope to hear from DSIL that we can visit him today. Thanks for the Daily and Fleet reports Rich and thanks for the Cares and Celebration reports Roy. Today's Rose' Coq a Vin is a great idea, it is more visually pleasing. I may try it but we have no Rose in the house right now. The cocktail looks good and today's wine would be perfect for today's menu. Thanks for all of these! Prayers for all needing them and for the people of Ukraine. Nancy
  4. Jacqui I am so sorry about your ankle. You truly need to catch a break and I do not mean a broken foot. Prayers that the pain goes away. πŸ™
  5. @Lady Hudson Hopefully they can get your husband in quickly and you can proceed on your planned cruise. Happy Monday and Happy Halloween! It is rainy and foggy but it will be warm for the trick or treaters. We have had great unseasonably warm weather. We don't carve pumpkins and I didn't even buy one or gourds this year. We have all of our fall decor out in the house though. I was a Girl Scout and was one through grade 5. I think that the founder was Juliet Lowe but I am not going to look it up so that is my trivia answer for the day right or wrong. @dfishI hope you are getting settled in Michigan and your wifi is on tomorrow. Thanks for the wine reviews for us daily @summer slope! Today's looks good. Thanks for the Daily and Fleet reports! I love the Gandhi quote. No word on my brother for today if he remains in the hospital for another day or goes to rehab. My project today is contacting my rheumatologist to get a letter that I should not get a Yellow Fever vaccination and I hear John working on his now. Prayers for all on our care list and for the people in Ukraine where many are living with no water and power. Have a great Halloween!!
  6. @Vict0riannI am so sorry about your cousin's passing. Deepest sympathy to you and your family. I am late because I went to visit my DB in the hospital. He has a staph infection but no gowning so it wasn't MRSA. He probably will be kicked out to rehab tomorrow. He talked about wanting to go straight home so I called DSIL and have her a heads up. He has no business being at home in his shape. Thanks for the Daily and Fleet reports @richwmn. I like candy corn a few pieces at a time. Few kids in the neighborhood so probably little mischief. Both sleeping and books are great. I am amazed so many don't like Tilapia. The first experience I ever heard of it was riding horses in upland Maui and our guide pointed out some crummy looking channels where Tilapia is farm raised. I am not a big fan of farmed fish or shrimp. The cocktail looks refreshing and the wine looks like worth looking for when in Chile. I have been to Puerto Quetzal in March 2017 on the Oosterdam on a Panama Canal cruise. We did not take a tour after reading some comments about locals pushing big rocks in the road to stop the buses for a while. We did go to a nice palapa restaurant at the port and had a could of terrific local beers. Picture is of DS who did the cruise with me. Thanks for all the photos of what we missed. Prayers for all on our care list, Lenda and Terry, people mourning in South Korea, the people of Ukraine and those cleaning up from Ian. We had a beautiful sunrise this morning. Have a wonderful day!
  7. Happy cat day! I really miss my cats but we travel too much now to add more cats into the family. Love the quote by Plato. Tacos are always good and the wine and cocktail look great. I am amazed all the tasty cocktails that can be conjured up. Lenda thank you for the Colon pictures. Prayers for all on our care list and the people of Ukraine. No news on DB yet today. We have a neighborhood association get together smack dab in the middle of the day so I will go see him tomorrow morning. DF rehung our bird feeders onto long arms off the back deck, I hope it keeps the raccoon activity down and we were rewarded by a visit from a Pileated Woodpecker. Usually they wait and come in during the dead of winter. I tried to stay up late to watch the World Series. I made it to the 8th inning and decided to give up. John had it on in the bedroom so I watched till the end of the 9th and gave up. I really don't have a pick but just enjoy good baseball. Big game tonight, Michigan versus Michigan State. Have a wonderful day! Cabin cats Lidia and Tiny.
  8. Thanks for this information! One of the major causes of strokes is uncontrolled AFib. If you notice your heart fluttering call your doctor for an EKG. My DH developed AFib after drinking too much caffeine day after day. He waited until he went in for his annual physical, the doc checked his heart with the stethescope and said "are you feeling OK". EKG revealed AFib so he had to get in ASAP for cardioversion (heart shocking), it took three shocks to get it into rhythm. He is lucky he didn't have a stroke.
  9. Finally back home from the hospital. My DB is in good spirits and eating well. He liked the M&M shortbread cookies I brought him. They still have no results from the culture of his knee implant area. We had a nice visit even though we had a couple of interruptions. DSIL is worried that he is not able to sit up on the edge of his bed yet and I agree, it bodes for a rough recovery to get back on his feet. Today is a gorgeous day. Especially after a late night watching the Ravens beat the Buccaneers. That always puts a spring in my step. Most of my packing is done for the cold weather clothing to go out by Fedex. Shoes and all. Have to add new socks I bought and a couple little things. I did a trial fill down the basement where my luggage and cruise specific clothes are stashed. When we get the word about pick up I will unload it and repack it upstairs as it will be really heavy. Thanks for the Daily and Fleet Reports @richwmn. I am glad several others mentioned the Pooh connection because I thought the same thing. I like chocolate but it isn't my favorite for dessert or a snack. I still have a few stuffed animals on a bed at the cabin including my Zippy monkey circa 1950s. DF loves sushi and we dined at Nami Sushi on the NS since there aren't a lot of sushi places around here. The cocktail looks tasty as does the Rochioli which I still have a few in the cellar. When I retired we cut back on our wine ordering and this one hit the chopping block. @StLouisCruisers, @HAL4NOW and @Quartzsite Cruiserthank you for the photos of La Serena. We are going to be there next January 19th. I am glad it is a city with things to do in walking distance as we don't have anything booked to do there yet. Thanks @rafinmdfor the Daily Care and Celebration reports. It seems the top list is growing again. Prayers for all needing them especially Lenda with your husband's recovery and @kazu Prayers for your DBIL who is now hospitalized. I hope you have an easy flight to Spain. Have a wonderful Friday!
  10. Good Friday morning. Sitting in the hospital lobby. Visiting my brother at hospital but just as I arrived they are changing his pic line. 40 minute procedure. At least my DS will be here soon so we can visit a while. Will try to get caught up later.
  11. Jacqui I am so happy this is coming through for you. Beautiful ports and relaxing time at sea. Following along. πŸΎβ›΄οΈ
  12. I lost my comments for today. I will be brief as we are running out of the house. DB had surgery yesterday and replaced a part in his knee implant and took tissue samples for culture to check for infection. He may get out Friday or stay through the weekend. It is never good if you pick up an infection in the hospital. Thanks for the Daily Reports and for the Cares and Celebration lists. Prayers for all on our list and for those cleaning up in Florida and for the people of Ukraine. Have a wonderful day!
  13. Good morning. Our run of great weather is taking a breather today. It is blustery and wet. A good day to stay home and get caught up. Thanks for the Daily and Fleet Reports. I will pass on mincemeat, my Dad was the only one that enjoyed it. Horseless Carriages were a wonderful invention and a very good quote from Einstein. I will pass on the tacos, I spot the dreaded cilantro on each. The drink looks like a good poolside cocktail. I am not a fan of Prosecco but La Marca is a decent one. Thanks for the port photos Sandi and Lenda. Lenda I hope things are going better for your DH. My brother is not doing well and could use some prayers. Yesterday he called and said he was in terrible pain and I asked him to go to the ER where he had his surgery. He went by ambulance to the tiny local hospital instead and spent time there and ended on another transfer by ambulance to the hospital where he had his surgery. I think they will be doing exploratory surgery today as they suspect infection. He has said multiple times he regrets getting this surgery and instead just limp along with his bum knee. Getting into the health care system is fraught with danger. One thing I left behind in Baltimore was my friends who were MDs and I could get a referral into the great hospitals they have there quickly. I will keep everyone posted. My friend Frank continues to do well, I mainly text with him when the Packers (his team) or the Ravens are on. Prayers for all on our care list and for the people in Florida and Ukraine. Have a wonderful day. It is a day of cleaning out a closet and getting started packing for the long cruise.
  14. Good morning! A great start to the morning for the photos of Israel. A place I want to go to sometime. The photos were great. Thanks for the Fleet and Daily Reports @richwmn. I will pass on the days but the quote is a good one and a great list of comestibles. I love the cubanelles with the cheese, looks like a perfect balance. Cocktail looks easy though the champagne is too pricy for me at this point in my life. @rafinmdthank you for keeping the care and celebrations list up to date for us. It is so nice to read hear many of us are preparing for cruises. Prayers for all needing them, especially Lenda @Quartzsite Cruiser for your husband and you. Prayers for the people cleaning up in Florida and the people of Ukraine. Today is our last day in the 70s. It has been amazing weather and I got a lot of work done outside. I had a good chance to sweep out and organize the shed because DF removed one of his lawn tools and it made space for me to get to work. It feels good going into winter that things are organized and somewhat neat. I sprayed pool bleach on the concrete surfaces to brighten them and my nose is still itchy after breathing it but it works great. We are headed to Costco and then have to head home quickly as a wine shipment is due. At least two more this week and John is complaining we are stuck at home. Makes me happy as I have a lot of prep to do to prepare for the luggage pickup sometime soon for our January cruise. Plus wine arriving always makes me happy. @seagarsmokerHappy Anniversary! Thanks for sharing your photos from Grand Cayman. Have a wonderful day. How about some HA food porn today. Canaletto seafood soup on the old Rotterdam.
  15. @Overhead Fred Happy Birthday! That cake does look wonderful! πŸŽ‚πŸΎ @Seasick Sailor Happy Anniversary!! 🍾πŸ₯³ @HAL @HAL4NOW I am glad you are off the ship and on your way home. I hope that you continue to feel pretty good. I hope you are negative soon. Thanks for all the pictures of Darwin, it looks like a lovely port to visit.
  16. Good morning, I hope everyone had a great weekend. @Quartzsite Cruiser I hope things go well today Lenda. Thanks for the Fleet and Daily reports. I probably have eaten a lot of bologna in my life but I haven't had the sliced kind in probably 50 years. We did grill some ring bologna last year from a local sausage and meat wholesaler and it was good. Yes to the United Nations. Too bad they can't kick the terrorist Putin off the National Security Council. He is a state sponsor of terror. A good quote though I hope a friend wouldn't have to go far enough to stab me. I hope we could work it out. Today's recipes look good especially the one with the spinach. The cocktail has all my favorite fall flavors. The wine is good too. @StLouisCruisers thanks for the photos of Darwin. We are having to run. My 1/2 hog is finished at the processor and we are heading there early to get some work done later in the day. A couple photos of the color this morning.
  17. We were on the Nieuw Statendam for 21days in a Neptune Suite. On Pinnacle class ships there is a dedicated dining room for NS guests and for a group of people that pay extra for Club Orange. That dining room was never crowded and was available breakfast and dinner. It is peaceful and service was attentive and the food excellent. You could get that also for paying extra for Club Orange which may include a cabin upgrade.
  18. Good Sunday morning. We had 77 degrees yesterday and 2 more days in the 70s. Today I will dig the last 4 massive Calla lilies and then I am going to be ready for cleaning the deck and concrete patios. Thank you Rich for the Daily and Fleet Reports! An interesting group of days. I love the quote and I agree food and good cheer is the best! @StLouisCruisers Sandi thank for reminding of my old chemistry days. I loved chemistry but being math challenged doing the calculations for labs was difficult. I was thinking the lawn moles. We don't have those here but the voles are terrible. They totally wiped out three Calla lilies. Completely disappeared from roots to leaves. My DMIL passed away in 2001 at age 84. She was a pip. She was a member of the private dining room at Pimlico race course and drove there as long as she could and then her aide took her there. She was made an invalid when somebody hit her head on on the way to the track. @0106Thanks for doing the recipes in Debbies absence. Today's all look like winners. I remember the cocktail from several months ago. The wine looks great. Today's port is on my long term goal to get to saving up for a Grand Africa a few years from now. I am looking forward to some photos. Thanks for the Cares and Celebration lists Roy @RAF. Prayers for all on our list and for the people of Ukraine heading into winter with lack of electricity in many areas. Putin thinks causing misery will weaken their resolve. I don't think so. Have a wonderful day and a shout out to all cruising today!
  19. Happy Saturday! We are blessed with wonderful weather so I got an early start and picked up some stuff at Home Depot and then went and had a long visit with my brother. He is in good spirits but has this massive brace on his knee. Thank you for the Daily Reports and all that everyone contributes. Prayers for all on our care list and for the people in Ukraine and those cleaning up from Ian. Have a wonderful Saturday!
  20. Good Friday morning. A nice warm up is due here. We may have 3 days in the 70s. We can get a lot of extra outside work done. I have a few planters to store and dig up all the calla lilies. I will wait a day on those because some of those are in clay. Give another day to dry up. My DB went to the ER and they removed his brace and bandages and saw he had a "bleeder". Strike 2 for his orthopedic surgeon. First missing tendon attachment and then not shoring up all bleeders. He is in good spirits and feeling a lot better. Thanks for your prayers and concern. Thanks for the Daily and Fleet Reports Rich. A very interesting quote and so true. Salvador da Bahia is on our itinerary for our Grand SA. Thanks Sandi for the beautiful photos and the warning about the crime in Brazil. Crime is everywhere. I remember back in 1984 we went to the casino on Paradise Island Bahamas and someone had their gold necklace ripped off. As long as there are drugs we will have this kind criminal activity. @HAL4NOWI am sorry you are battling Covid and I hope that you aren't feeling too bad. @aliaschiefThanks for taking us along on your river cruise in France. Food porn is always good. @0106Thanks for ending today's recipe with a crab dish. I miss Maryland blue crab. We missed our trip to Baltimore this year so no overload on crab meals there and if the seafood store still has MD jumbo lump crab left we always bring a couple of pounds home. Ditto with frozen Gulf shrimp which is really hard to find in Michigan. Costco sometimes has Chicken of the Sea pasteurized crab from Asia and the lumps are big and it is a good substitute for a crab hungry former Marylander. Prayers for all on our care list, the people suffering from the hurricanes and the people of Ukraine. Have a wonderful rest of the day and a great weekend!
  21. Happy Thursday morning! Rich, thank you for the Fleet and Daily Reports. I do love to have my fruit macerated with a bit of Grand Marnier so I think that counts as brandy. @aliaschiefthanks for starting our morning with the wonderful photos of the Bocuse market in Lyon. A great way to start off International Chef's Day. A funny quote for sure. I thought today's recipes looked good but hearing liver essence is a part turned it into a pass for me. The Mimi Chardonnay was on the list on the Nieuw Statendam last February and actually had it a wine tasting. It is unoaked if I remember. I have never been to Taiwan. Roy, thank you for the Daily Care and Celebration reports. Prayers for all cleaning up from Ian and Fiona and for the people of Ukraine. Cheers so all aboard ships, have a wonderful and safe time. Today is garden club at 6 at our local library with a talk about rain gardens. I will be heading to buy bird food and hit Starbuck's as our Costco has not had our Decaf for a few weeks so Starbuck's it will be. For some reason it is really hard to find any selections of decaf coffee in stores lately. Ditto sugar free caffeine free soda. Have a wonderful day!
  22. @BrandelynConWelcome to the Daily group! @grapau27Thank you for the food porn! Thanks everyone for the PV pics. I am late again today, we ran errands and had a nice long lunch and a drive through the countryside to leaf peep. @richwmnThank you for the Fleet and Daily Reports. I love rain forests and look forward to seeing the biggest in Brazil We have toured them in Costa Rica and also hiking in the Tongass National Park in AK. Over time I have come to love my body and I evaluate my life from time to time. The Indian pastries look tasty and I remember similar from buffets at Indian restaurants. I think the Laphroaig cocktail would be good minus the bitters. I love the Allegrini Amarone and I know we had one on a BHB because we carried it on. @rafinmdRoy, thanks for keeping the care and celebrations list for us! @Quartzsite Cruisertoday my DB is going through something similar. He had his knee replaced and had continued bad pain for a month. He was sent to a sports doc for a consult and his tendons weren't reconnected. He went back in a week ago but yesterday he noticed bleeding under his bandage. Today a lot of bleeding. My sis called and I said take him to the ER. I am waiting for what is happening. Lenda I hope things get better for you and DH. Prayers for all on our care list and for the people of Ukraine. Thanks for all the wonderful sunny photos of Puerta Vallarta. I was there once on the Oosterdam in 2017 prior to a Panama Canal transit. We got off and made a beeline for Wal-Mart so I could get enough Diet Pepsi to last our cruise. (in the days they allowed it). Have a wonderful afternoon!
