  1. LOL! I thought everyone knew about Spanx after Oprah spilled the beans. I don't know about the guys version, but remember Joe Namath wore panty hose. Wink wink.

  2. This question is for all of the ladies out there. I wear spanx under all of my dresses, and have a 9 day cruise coming up. I have about 4 pair of the spanx, but absolutely hate washing things in the sink. Do you think I could send them out to be done, and would the laundry ruin them? Thanks for any responses.

  3. I am having the same problem. We are flying Delta NY to Amsterdam, and then KLM to Hamburg. KLM would not allow us to choose seats, even though we booked the entire trip through Delta. They had us sitting in different rows when the flight was still empty. We did call, and after talking to a supervisor, the agent was able to get us seats together. All this trouble for a 45 minute flight!

  4. Alaska has a climate that can change in a minute. When I went on a cruise there, we wore shorts, light dresses, heavy pants and parkas, sandals and snow boots! All in one week. I would suggest layers. Some days will be sunny and warm, others cold and rainy. When we visited Mendenhall Glacier, one woman was wearing high heeled sandals! She couldn't leave the path to see the ice. Just use common sense and watch the weather report on your tv in the morning so you can decide what is appropriate for that day. Have a great time - Alaska is absolutely beautiful.

  5. Perhaps a bit of baking soda boiled in the kettle for a few minutes and then cleaned by boiling fresh water. Baking soda is known to remove odors and flavors, and would be pretty easy to transport.

  6. OK, I will be the one dissenter here. I use my vacations to unwind from daily life. So, I completely disconnect from the internet and all other modes of technology. I don't even put on the tv, except to see the daily specials and schedules. I am glad that Cunard may be upgrading the internet equipment, but it won't effect me and my family at all.

  7. Getting dressed up has almost become a dirty word. My husband and I have worn uniforms all our adult lives. I as a Police Officer, him as a milkman. Our upcoming cruise on the QV is a chance for us to branch out and feel like we are living in a fantasy world, even for just a short time. I can't wait to be able to step out in formal wear on the ship and enjoy myself in the evening. I know that the childhood practice of dressing in your mothers high heels is just a game, but these are MY high heels.

We chose Cunard simply for the experience of dressing up and living like the "other half". We only have two formal nights on our cruise, so it is not such a bother to dress up. My feeling is that if you can't see yourself doing that even for just two nights, then Cunard may not be for you. I know that I have had so much fun getting our wardrobes together. My husband is not as excited as I am, but he will still enjoy himself.

  8. Yes, I know that. The people who board at Southampton will already have done theirs. What I meant is that there will be a muster drill at each port for those who boarded at that port. So, what will dictate the time of the drill will be what time the ship leaves each port.

  9. Some of the Baltic cruises this summer are parts of other voyages. I am on the 7/16 QV Baltic leaving out of Hamburg. I would guess that at each boarding point, a new muster drill must be done.

  10. Our tour, since it is private, required a small deposit, which is refundable until 30 days before the tour. The remainder is payable on the second day, which sounds reasonable as we are getting our own guide, car and driver.

  11. I have walked around London many times. It is a great city, but can be a bit rainy. Usually I take the double decker bus to get around as I can then enjoy the view of the city. The tube is also a great alternative, but can be very expensive. There are numerous taxi stands around the city, so don't worry too much about getting around. Ask the hotel for a transport map, which will show all the tube and bus lines. It really is pretty easy as everything is color coded and in English!  Enjoy.

  12. I am doing the Baltic Cruise this July on QV. We are in QG and our cruise has 2 gala nights. The themes are black and white and roaring 20's. For the black and white, I have a black gown with a white throw. And, for the roaring 20's, I have a blue one shoulder gown and I just bought a blue lace and beaded fascinator on Amazon for $11!  The remaining 7 nights will be cocktail dresses. My husband has one tux, an extra tuxedo jacket and four suits. I think we may only bring three of them. One is black, one is grey and the last is a brownish tan. Two sets of ties and cummerbunds with pocket squares completes the dressy look.

  13. I knew that I wanted a private tour. I have friends that have been to St. Petersburg. Since I am going in July when it is the most crowded, they all recommended private as the more people you have, the harder it is to navigate the crowds. Yes, it is more expensive, but the tour was customized by SPB to exactly what we want. Compared to the tours offered by Cunard, it is a bargain. When compared to all the other tours, it is probably three times as much, but we felt it would be worth it as it is the only time we will see this city.

  14. I have never heard of Lentina. I am on the July 13th Baltic cruise on QV. We booked a private tour with SPB for two days. Just me and my husband, plus driver and guide. It was half the cost of the Cunard tours. Try looking on Trip Advisor. There are many reviews there on the St. Petersburg tours.

  15. Hello Topper! I learned years ago to pack half and half. Each suitcase has half mine and half his. This way, if one goes missing, both of us have something to wear. We once went to China with no luggage. It had gotten stuck on a small plane in a thunderstorm. We moved onto the larger plane, and off we went. Shopping in China was so much fun! Our luggage caught up with up with us in a few days.
