  1. On sea days, I would usually wear the nice chino type pants, or capri's if it is warm. This way, I can go all the way through breakfast up to dinner. If there will be pool involved, after breakfast, I will change into a suit and cover up, and then put the same chinos on again for late afternoon. After all, I am not usually rolling in the mud in the AM LOL. With the luggage costs, I would rather not have to bring so many different pants.

  2. I did the Alaska cruise in July. Depending on how far up you are going, you may need clothing for all 4 seasons. Starting out in Vancouver was warm and sunny. As we moved upwards, it got cooler and wetter. Southern Alaska is somewhat like a rainforest. Misty, cool and cloudy. Farther north, even in July, we needed coats and gloves. Visiting the glacier was very cold and windy. I would think in May, it may be even colder and wetter. Bring layers and at least a small amount of clothing for each season and you should be fine. Also, do not forget proper footwear. When we were walking on the glacier, there was a woman wearing high heel strappy sandals. Her feet were blue!

  3. It truly depends on what day it is. A weekday at 9:00 AM will have a great deal of traffic going into the city. A weekend, not so much. You may wish to wait until a little later, possibly 10:00 AM as the traffic will have eased a bit by then.

  4. The only problem I have with all of these great ideas is space. We are packing for 15 days, including a stay in Hamburg before our cruise. As it is, we will need an extra suitcase which is a garment bag. On an international flight, that costs us $100.00 each way. Thank goodness AMEX pays for that. I really have to get all the rest in just two 25" bags, which causes wrinkling no matter what you do. I am surprised that Cunard does not include dry cleaning and laundry in QG like HAL does in their suites. I guess that all of the dress clothes will go out the first day for pressing. We really don't want to spend our vacation time doing that!

  5. I am talking about a private tour. That is me, my husband and a guide. That is three times as much as the small group tour. I do think we are going to do it, though. It is really the only tour that matters as we probably won't see St. Petersburg again.

  6. Has anyone done a private tour in St. Petersburg? Was it worth the cost, and how did you like it? We are thinking of doing it because we are there on the QV in July, and the city may be quite crowded. We think that perhaps we can get through more things if there are only three of us. Thanks.

  7. Well, I live steps from LGA, and I can tell you the traffic is quite a mess. The airport is undergoing massive renovations, along with the access roads. Leave what would seem a huge amount of time to get there from the terminal. Vehicle traffic entering LGA is usually backed up onto the Grand Central almost back to the gas station. We have had incidents where people abandoned their taxis and walked the last leg into the airport because the traffic was so bad. Sorry for the news, but knowing what to expect is probably a good thing in this area.
