  1. I agree. Don't much like the new format. And it does seem there are quite a few less posts than before. Hopefully everyone will get used to it and come back to the site. Oh well, I guess we don't have much to say about it anyway.

  2. Interesting review. We have never tried either Celebrity or Cunard. Mostly HAL cruises. We are booked on the Baltic QV July 2019 in Queens Grill. Hope to seriously enjoy it. We love to dress up, so Cunard was a no brainer. While researching Baltic cruises, I found the 7/16 sailing much less costly in QG that other sailings, so we took the plunge. This is a bucket list item for me, so I am glad to be going. We will definitely review afterwards. Thanks for the review!

  3. That does sound good. Before the cruise, we are contemplating visiting friends in Frankfurt and taking the train to Hamburg. I guess we would arrive on Sunday for the Tuesday cruise. That gives us a few days in Frankfurt to visit. The airfare is not too much more for the multi city flights.

  4. Our Baltic cruise on QV next July leaves out of Hamburg, but returns to Kiel. I see that it is not that far a distance between them, but wonder about the logistics of getting back to Hamburg airport for our flight home. We have not booked those flights yet, so any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks. Anita.

  5. Many people pick the cabin they want and then specify " no upgrade ". Because of this, the ones booking the guarantee may actually be the ones upgraded. We are booked in a Q5 for next July's sailing to the Baltics. Because we love aft corner cabins with the large balconies, we have specified no upgrade. Anyone booking a Queens Grill guarantee, which is all that is left for this cruise, may end up in the Mauritania Suite!

  6. I had spotted dick with runny cream at a small restaurant in Cornwall once. Very delicious. Also let me say, I am not rich. Just a regular person. My feeling on laundry is that I would rather pay Cunard to do it than pay the airlines to carry another suitcase. Usually, once during a cruise, I send out a bag of laundry to be done. Then, I can wear the clothes again knowing they are clean. We are in a Q5 next summer for the Baltics. When we are in a suite on HAL, the laundry is included. I guess I will be paying this time. Either way, it will get done. So much easier than lugging an extra bag across the pond.

  7. Let's put this in perspective. I was just looking at some of the drink menus posted here. I love a good Cosmo, and I see that they charge around $12 for one. I live in NYC, and usually pay anywhere from $14 to $18 for one here. I think my trip on the QV should turn out to be quite a bargain!

  8. In the US, everyone must be treated in an emergency by law, regardless of ability to pay. This is the case in all 50 states. Most hospitals will attempt to bill insurance before billing the patient. You will never be asked for payment up front here.

  9. So, if one does not dress like everyone else on the ship, they are "dumb"? Cunard will do whatever they need to increase passenger numbers. They do not care whether the passengers are dressed or not, as long as they have "green". No amount of complaining on this board or to the cruise line will change that.

  10. I do like to dress up. Why is your opinion of "dressing up" more pertinent than mine? If they do change the "rules", then just don't travel on Cunard. I am sure there are many others who will book a Cunard cruise if the formal nights become more moderate. In reality, the cruise line is a business. They will do whatever necessary to protect their bottom line, whether we like it or not. I choose to go with the flow. I will dress up, and if someone else doesn't it will not effect my having a good time. There is room for all different kinds of people in this world. We should all be more tolerant and accepting.

  11. I resent the implication that "Americans" are the ones who don't know how to dress. If you look at the demographics, the younger generation of ANY area of the world is becoming less formal and more casual. Simply economics. If Cunard is to survive as a company, they MUST adjust their rules to include a wider spectrum of individuals. I believe that this change is just one of many to come that will bring the company into the 21st Century and bring a wider segment of the population of the WORLD over to the cruise industry.

I myself have no problem with it. I have a Baltic cruise booked on Cunard for July 2019. I took a Norway Fjord cruise on HAL last year. I wore what made me feel comfortable, and never looked at what anyone else was wearing. I like to dress up, so it was no problem. It never bothered me if someone else in the MDR was not wearing a jacket or a floor length dress. We all pay our fare, and we all should be allowed to have a good time. I would never make a derogatory comment about someone else's dress the likes of those I have seen here. Live and let live, and be prepared for the future, whatever it may bring.

  12. The only place I have ever been sat at long shared tables is in China. We went to several restaurants where the tables were shared. Unfortunately, nobody could speak to us as they didn't speak English, and we didn't speak Chinese. Had a good time with hand gestures and such. Only wish we could have had conversation. Oh well.

  13. Well, we found a great sale on a tuxedo at Macy's. I suppose it is last years style, but it is so classic one would never know. It is a Calvin Klein all wool. Very simple black. Fits well and was only $254.00. This is less than renting one on board.
