We go in Nov. 2025. Our last invoice, dated July when we added the Madrid pre-extension, says visa required. So I’m just not going to worry about it for another year. Next thing is getting passport renewed when we return this November.
-
That is probably true, but I would also say that the “no visa for Algeria”is really only the stance for this cruise. We don’t go for another year, and it may change again, even several times, before that. So I will be checking again next year about this time.
-
And we are booked, Nov. 2025, so also following enthusiastically.
-
Who did you use? How much? TIA
-
Yes, that’s my understanding too. But just passing along what I heard. I think we might try a private tour I have over a year to look into this. The other big question seems to be about the visa for Algeria.
-
And aches and pains,
-
I just heard from someone on a November roll call that they were able two nab two previously sold out tix to the Alhambra for $229 pp. we are on this cruise next fall, and I am also interested.
-
OK, fine. But I will point out that at 80000 people Santa Fe is hardly a city (I’m from Los Angeles—big difference). And I am certainly not “offended” by the term “old man rant.” Too much that’s really offensive in the world to worry about.
-
I really don’t want to get in a “rant” with an “old man,” but may I offer an example? We don’t often use Uber,( although we often use taxis when traveling). But here in Santa Fe, we like to go to the opera, which often goes past midnight, and is in the hills. And we often have wine. So we order Uber, both ways. So maybe if you go out to dinner some night and want a bottle of wine, and don’t want to worry about driving at night, you might try out an Uber ride. Not really that expensive, you get an account going, and who knows…the world is your oyster!

We use a TA and she gets it and then sends it. This sometimes means up to a week later than others get theirs. But we have always gotten our final docs in plenty of time. And the OBC our TA gives us makes up for any slight inconvenience. And agree, I think the Chairman would find coupons tacky.
-
Yes, we saw that as soon as we got out of the terminal and laughed. But like you, we had OBC for the car service. We are in Barcelona again next year and will undoubtedly use the taxi stand!
-
I have twice had Viking get us transportation to our hotel post cruise— once in Montreal, a taxi, when docked far from the old town, and once in Barcelona, where Viking arranged private cars for a price.

No, We love PV1s and our chosen room is 6009 or 6008 (the PV1 we didn’t like and got on guarantee was (EDIT) 6095. The overhang from the WC was a drag, in our opinion. Just dark and blocked the views. We heard noise early every morning from WC set up. We were far from stairs, and just generally hated being all the way in the back. but maybe, now that I write this, I liked our PJS even less. Bad location and really don’t much like the PJS set up. But it’s all subjective. I bet you’ll love your PV1.
-
For us, no choice. We arrived in Greenwich, no one knew where we supposed to be. We had been upgraded without our knowledge or, apparently, anyone on Viking’s end. We had no card key to board the ship. We had to tender over with Viking staff and wait in guest services. Then we found they had moved us from our chosen PV1 cabin to a PJS 1 cabin. We had no choice. Our preferred PV cabin had been give away and the PJS1 cabin we were given was the second worst cabin we have ever had (worst being a guarantee PV1 cabin). I hated everything about it. So, be careful what you wish for…

Yay! I just tried it with password and they didn’t send a verification code. I guess they actually read our critiques.

For most of us who don’t like/won’t use the soap, it isn’t a subjective opinion. It is an allergy.
-
No, just one button to push with one kind of awful soap,
-
And that is one of the reasons I always send my laundry out now.

So, now my question is (and I know this is the wrong forum, but we are well traveled here), we are taking our first River cruise this fall. I understand that the dinner dress is more casual. Can one wear jeans? I can’t imagine traveling on a cruise without dress pants or a skirt or dress.
-
Oh please. Let me take my jeans with impunity. I always take four pair in different colors, blue, black, grey, and wheat. I live in them at home and on shore ex. I always have. BUT, I have only worn them once in The Restaurant or the specialty restaurants, when our suitcases arrived wet. Had to have everything cleaned, which happened very quickly thanks to Viking. I work black jeans with a silk tunic to dinner and nobody noticed.
-
And I have to say, I would be much more upset if I was trying to book shore ex in the next few weeks. That is always so fraught anyway, and this new wrinkle just makes it worse. But our excursions are booked for our Thine River cruise, Viking canceled our Pacific Coast Explorer cruise in April, so I don’t have to book any excursions u til July of 2025 for Malta.
-
Just tried it again, and got right in after hitting back home. I have notifications about cruises on the Seine. And a notice that I need to renew my passport before my Malta trip in Nov. 2025. Duh!
