The newsletter we received from our insurance company last month said they don’t really work.  That was the letter reminding everyone how active the deer are in October and November.

The local news station also had an announcement from the DEM about the activity and to use caution.  When my daughter was a new driver (of course it was the one day we took a trip to Boston) she called in tears to say a deer hit the car.  It was on a dark spooky road (no streetlights, no homes, just fields) a few minutes away.  I asked her if she stopped and she said "NO, I wasn't getting out of the car".  When I asked about the deer she said after it ran into the bumper it changed course and ran up the street in front of her and into the woods.  I picked a few tuffs of hair out of the grill when I got home.

  2. Bad enough hitting a Deer, but have seen some really bad Damage in Maine (thankfully not us) from Moose being hit on the highway..

We knew someone who, about 15 years ago, hit a moose.  It was bad enough with the damage to the car but to make things worse the moose had an "accident" of it's own.  The car needed some serious sanitizing besides the body work.

If this was on my front step I would have had zero trick or treaters.  We had a turnover of about 6 houses in our development of 30 and they all have little ones 5 and under.  We did have the twins next door (11) and a group of 12-13 year of girls but other than that there were really young this year.  Maybe 30 this year but it beats the 8 we got last year.  Too much candy, once again.

I know we sometimes mention You Tube series that we watch. I wondered if anyone has watched "Adventures With Purpose"?

I had never heard of them until last night when I read an article about them finding the missing mother/daughter who disappeared 23 years ago. Sad story, young mother with toddler and her being about 8 months pregnant.

Maryann, our very close friends are joining us also.  We met over 40 years ago when we were neighbors in NY and our move to TX did not diminish our closeness.  We've been on 3 cruises with them. We miss them terribly and were glad to see them in Aug. when we went back East.

How does she do with bbq and occasional tornadoes?

I'm thinking she would have no problem eating bbq everynight.  Is the safe room soundproof?

  6. I didn't realize you could walk to Eagle beach from the pier.  I'm not sure that the family would want to do it if the temp was 90 degrees, they would probably be complaining the entire way.

Interesting about the bunker bar.  I've spent a lot of time on various boards, particularly since we were supposed to do a land vacation there earlier this year, and never heard about it before.

I see Jan Thiel beach at the bottom of your map.  That is a nice place to go if you want to do some snorkeling.  Not much of a beach but it has sand and a ramp into the water.  It has a beach bar, restaurant and clean bathrooms.

We have been to the aquarium too.  They have an enclosed area where you can snorkel around.  There was some huge fish at the bottom but it was a bit murky but we could make out the outline.  The thing was huge!  Obviously not a carnivore or they would not have let us swim all around.  They also have a plexiglass divider where you can view the sharks on the other side.  You can purchase food to feed them through the holes in the plexiglass.  Pretty interesting to hear the sound they make as they suck the bait.  Kind of like an underwater hoover vacuum.  The park also had a seal show and turtles.  After we finished we could walk over to the small protected beach.  It made for a nice day.

A family of four came and gave us a lovely thin 5x7" faux wooden tray.  When turned over, "Alitalia Airlines" was prominently displayed!!

LOL.  This reminds me of a gift I gave to my FIL a few years ago.  I came across these really neat coasters while rummaging around at a Savers store.  In case you do not have one it is on the same idea of a Salvation Army store.  Anyway, it was a stone coaster set of 4 on which had a map of the Narragansett Bay carved on the front.  My FIL, being a fisherman, probably knows every inlet and I though he might like them.  They were brand new, still taped inside the box.  it wasn't until I got home and pulled them out that I realized they had "Bank of Newport" stamped on the back.  Anyway, it was a good laugh for $3.

So useful (or useless) bit of information #3 for this class of ship.

Pretty useful info to me.  I didn't realize they charge based on sea/port days.

We did the North Star when the Quantum first came out and yes, not much to see but the sea.

We did the I-Fly on embarkation day years ago.  We had so much to do we needed to get started as soon as we got out of the windjammer!

In 1998 it was snowing when I left work so I opted to take an express bus home rather than the subway. The bus broke down ,no heat or lights. The bus driver told us passengers that we could either stay on the bus till a replacement bus would come or get off.It was in a high crime area very far from where I lived.I was going to stay on the bus.A woman said she was pregnant and preferred to walk to a pay phone and call her husband to pick her up.She asked if someone would go with her.I was the only one who said I would go.She said her husband would drive me home.We found a phone booth. She called him.I told her to stay inside the booth with the door closed .I stayed. outside. Her husband arrived 30 minutes later and said he was not taking me home. She yelled at him. When he arrived at his house he said he was not going any further and I would have to get out.

It was late at night and I was a mile from home.I found another phone booth ,called Toby and told her that the bus broke down and I was walking home.I did not tell her what happened.I then walked home.

What a inconsiderate jerk that guy was!  To think, you were the only one willing to help her out and never considered the danger you put yourself in while waiting for him to show up.

Me as well, I have a Ganglion Cyst...which has been there since my idiot ex husband banged my hand on the counter one day (on purpose) about 45 years ago. 😠  It has never gone down, but never enlarged.

That is really interesting.  My sister is prone to these cysts and the second time one appeared on her wrist, she was taken back when the doctor then asked her about her home life, namely if she was being abused.  I did not know they were caused by trauma.  Unfortunately she has had about 6 to deal in different areas of her body.
