  1. We did the West Indies Explorer Cruise in Jan/Feb 2023. No visas were required.
  2. We placed an online hold and decided to make a change within the 72 hour period. I cancelled the hold using the Chat Line ... no problem.
  3. We were upgraded on our GTY cabin from a V2 to a DV6 ... no charge.
  4. We also received an email from Viking advising of our Cabin # 10 days prior to our sail date.
  5. We recently returned from Cities of Antiquity and the Holy Land. We took Viking's optional tour of Pompeii. I would say this tour is correctly rated as Demanding. There are a number of inclines and many downhill stairs at the end of the tour. Lots of well-worn cobblestones/flat stones which could be very slippery in inclement weather. There were two women with walking sticks on our tour that were unable to keep up, although our Guide kept a slower pace.
  6. We are currently on the Saturn. Viking has made changes to their internet service program launching first on the Saturn. Free WiFi continues as a daily data allowance of 1.5 GB per person, resetting every 24 hours, and is stated as sufficient for emails, messaging, social media and web browsing. For those who wish unlimited data a premium option applies for a charge of $19.99 per day, or you can choose to purchase unlimited WiFi for the duration of your voyage at a discounted rate of $14.99 per day. Each person can be on their devices at the same time. We have found the daily allowance sufficient for our needs. And for Clay ... no sign of Pistachio Buns! 😒
  7. We have always arranged our own air for Viking travel. This time we used Viking Air for our Ocean Cruise departing 22 November from Van to Athens. We paid $100 pp for a deviation to arrive in Athens a day earlier. We are 73 days out, so I did a live chat to ask when our flights would be ticketed. I was told it would most likely be within 20 days (Day 53) or we could pay $100 pp to be ticketed now. I declined and called the Viking Air Department directly. We have now been ticketed, no charge. Another example of different information from different sources.
  8. Yes, we booked a GTY V2 on the West Indies cruise and 10 days prior to sailing received notice we were upgraded to a DV6.
  9. We flew Van to Toronto, Toronto to San Juan with Air Canada in Jan 2023 for this cruise. Return with Jet Blue, San Juan to NY, NY to Van, which was better than we expected.
  10. We loved Viking Homelands in Sept 2018, which included St. Petersburg at that time. Our cruise began in Stockholm so we arrived about 3 days early and enjoyed the city. So many ports we had never been to before.
  11. Thanks. However the only button showing for me is "Change Seats". Were you able to make itinerary changes on MVJ prior to Day 120? Or perhaps I should deal directly with Viking Air to make the change. The one flight offered for us is fine, other than we wish to leave a day or two earlier.
  12. Hoping someone can provide clarification for me on this. We have done 2 River and 2 Oceans cruises with Viking, but always handled flights ourselves. Our cruise departs on Nov 22 from Athens, we are currently 137 days out. We have received one flight itinerary on MVJ, Van-Toronto-Athens departing on 21 Nov. We are considering departing 2 days earlier, on 19 Nov. This from the Viking Air Website -- Customize Flights & Seats You can now use My Viking Journey to fully customize your flight itinerary, including seat assignments. Change your dates of travel and preferred airports; add a stopover before or after your cruise; and view or change your seats – all through our convenient online tool. At this time we cannot make any changes, except seat assignment. Does this change at 120 days out? There is no mention of a change fee if you make changes yourself. Do you pay a deviation fee if you make the change yourself, or do you have to contact Viking Air to have them change the date of the departure flight? Thanks!
  13. We booked an appointment on 5th April at Service Canada in Chilliwack, BC for passport renewal. Received new passports in the mail yesterday, April 20th. Considering the Easter holiday the turn-around was very quick. Very happy we got them in the queue early enough to receive them back before the strike.
  14. All fees for Canadians (excursions, gratuities & SSBP) shown in My Viking Journey are in CDN $.
  15. Thanks for posting! We were able to cancel and rebook our November Cruise to take advantage of the savings. πŸ˜„
  16. We had a GTY V1 cabin on our Caribbean Cruise in January. The cruise was close to sold out when we booked, and we decided against selecting one of the few remaining V1's. We received our assigned DV6 cabin about 10 days prior to sail date. We were able to book excursions (at the V1 level) and dining reservations once on board, with no problem.
  17. We just returned from 10 nights on the Viking Sea. As we had a GTY cabin we did not have access to make advance dining reservations. Once onboard we were able to dine twice at Manfredi's and once at the Chef's Table, at a table for two each time. Dining time was less than 2 hours in each case. My only concern was that those restaurants never seemed to be completely filled and once we would have preferred an earlier reservation. We questioned this and were told they reserve on a half hour basis ... which to me did not explain the empty tables. πŸ€”
  18. We had booked a V1 and were upgraded to a DV6. Same cabin size and deck but my DH enjoyed the use of the coffee maker. We also prefer being on a lower deck, so this worked well for us.
  19. We had a Guarantee cabin on the Sea, departing 30 Jan/23 from San Juan. We received notice by email of our assigned cabin about 10 days prior to sail date.
  20. There were two walking tours of the Sea, at 2:00 & 3:00 pm. Register at Guest Services. We did not do the tours as we have previously sailed with Viking Ocean.
  21. We are currently on the Sea, having left from San Juan on Monday. We arrived to board just after 11:00 am and there already was a lengthy line waiting to embark. After a short safety review we headed to the World Cafe for lunch which we enjoyed outside on the Aquavit Terrace. We were happy to hear that our Cabin was available 1/2 hour prior to the expected time. There were a couple of scheduled tours for first-timers that afternoon to familiarize yourself with the ship. The crew are fantastic. Enjoy!
  22. I appreciate all the input. I'll try this on the next promo code that interests us. We are boarding the Viking Sea in San Juan tomorrow ... first cruise since the Pandemic! ☺️
  23. The Viking Rep I spoke with advised Viking would no longer permit Canadians to pay with US $, so it seems unlikely that a US Travel Agent would be able to assist. However, I'll check it out for a future booking. Thanks.
  24. While I'm very happy for all who are able to take advantage of these Promo Codes, it is disappointing that Viking does not provide similar offers to other nationalities. As a Canadian about to take our fourth Viking cruise we have never received (or seen) any such offers and all the ones I have seen posted so far appear to be for US residents only. I get that we are a much smaller market, but I would be happy to pay in US $$, as we were able to do on our first Viking River cruise.
  25. No Crown Royal or Canadian Club .... how sad for us Canadians on our upcoming cruise on the Viking Sea next week!! 😞
