  1. That stinks. Hopefully they’ve just pulled it down temporarily for updating.

    Tipping

Yes. US dollars are widely accepted in Cayman for pretty much everything.
  3. @Visitors4 To clarify, the beach you were at, was it a small beach with a boat ramp nearby and a small parking lot or was it a bigger beach with a large parking lot and a playground? Because I’ve never seen food or chair vendors at West Bay public beach, so that must be something new in the last few months. West Bay beach is usually pretty deserted, so I have mixed emotions about it being “discovered” by more people. West Bay public beach is at the very far end of the strip, technically just past Seven Mile Beach, and it’s fairly small but it does have change rooms and restrooms. Public Beach is a larger beach on West Bay Road, officially part of SMB and a bit closer to the port, with many more facilities. https://www.explorecayman.com/things-to-do/beaches
  4. I haven’t seen any Cayman excursions for turtle swimming other than the activities at the Turtle Center, and you can just DIY a visit there. https://www.turtle.ky You could always do a catamaran sail in the morning and then visit the Turtle Center in the afternoon.
  5. According to the app, approx $45 US each way. Not sure where you catch them, I’m assuming it should be right out front somewhere, I think, but just ask any security or port personnel and they can point you in the right direction I’m sure. For anyone else looking for Cayman taxi fares, there’s an app. https://www.caymantransport.ky/transportation-services/taxi
  6. Good luck. Like I said, they said no to us having my elderly mom with a walker share in our priority boarding/tendering perks unless we had her share our cabin and sleep on the sofa, even when we were paying the solo supplement for the club balcony next to our owners suite. And we tip well, so that didn’t even help.
  7. Taxi fare to Coral Beach would be the same as what you paid for Royal Palms...they use the RP parking lot. $5 a person maybe? The app is saying $16 for up to 4 passengers. If you go to their website that I linked, it gives you all the info.
  8. Yes Royal Palms is closed, and generally no the hotels on SMB don't offer day passes. The only two I know of that offer day passes are both on the North Sound, the Grand Caymanian and the Holiday Inn. Both are available through the third party resellers. Your other option is Coral Beach - https://coralbeach.ky - next door to where Royal Palms used to be. Or you can DIY at Public Beach (facilities) or any one of the other SMB access points (no facilities).
  9. Look for an excursion that mentions the Kittiwake. More dive excursions than snorkel ones, but it's still one of the most accessible from the cruise ship IMO. https://www.visitcaymanislands.com/en-us/plan-your-trip/our-local-business/kittiwake-shipwreck-artificial-reef
  10. However, to get to a Scotiabank from the port you will need to take a taxi, which will likely cost more than whatever bank fees you'd pay by just walking to the RBC. Paying $20 for the round trip taxi to save $5 in bank fees doesn't make much sense to me... 😉 Maybe check with your bank to see what other options you have? Cayman has branches of a lot of different banks
  11. They got sorted out enough that my friends were able to go back to the airport and retrieve their luggage in the evening, but nothing computer-related was working yet.
  12. Lufthansa also has their operation entirely shut down today due to IT cabling being cut by a company doing construction work. Friends were supposed to fly from Germany to Venice and their flight was cancelled and they had already checked their bags, which couldn't be retrieved. They're driving to Venice tomorrow.
  13. Currently on the Sea and the daily Tea menus (and everything else) appear in the app.
  14. The easiest one is likely the one at Camana Bay. https://ky.scotiabank.com/about-scotiabank/connect-with-scotiabank/branch-and-atm-locations.html There are lots of closer banks, though, including an RBC (Royal) very close to the port at 24 Shedden Rd
  15. @FetaCheese Wandered by and took some pics for you. Snacks were mini burgers and hot dogs, chicken tenders, nachos, etc
  16. I can't remember, but the excursion descriptions on the cruise line webpage usually have any restrictions listed.
  17. From today's daily, Sea (West Indies Explorer)
  18. A taxi might cost a lot more, depending on the number of people. Up to 4 people would be about $30 US. It would likely be faster, though. Which one you choose is entirely up to you. We have a car there so I generally just drive that, this my experience with either taxis or shuttles is limited. 🙂
  19. Kimpton is maybe a 5-10 min walk from the Public Beach parking lot. You can see both locations in Google/Apple Maps and see the route to get there by foot. Your other option is taxi to the Kimpton and then walk to Public Beach after and grab a shuttle back to the port from there.
  20. Us too! Although our flight doesn’t land until 2pm-ish, so I think we’re going to miss lunch. Or does anyone know if there will still be food available later in the afternoon? Do you remember when those were and where you signed up?
  21. Anyone know if the Deck 5 machines on the Sea are separate or combo units?
  22. Check in this thread… https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2863068-post-viking-promos/
  23. Tagging on to ask if anyone has been successful lately in just walking up around lunchtime? We are in port on a Thursday in February, and have morning plans, but would like some beach time in the afternoon. We don’t really want to pay for the whole day and food we won’t end up eating, but it looks like a nice place for some drinks and a lounger.
  24. Off-topic for this forum, other than the comparison factors, but… We have done a ton of NCL cruises, including four since the shutdown and we’ve got PoA booked for November. We haven’t had the experience the PP mentioned, and one of our four cruises was even a rock music charter and one was a weekend cruise to Bahamas and back. Did we see the odd person who had overused their beverage package? Sure, but it was by no means drunks everywhere. Was the food as good as pre-shutdown? No, but nothing is the same, that’s a fact of life. We had mostly great service and good but not great food. They weren’t the horror stories that seem to be floating around online, that’s for sure. Go in with reasonable expectations and you’ll be fine. Our upcoming first Viking cruise (in a couple of weeks) is the one we are worried about. If I take all of the attitudes and info that’s posted as gospel, I’m going to be stuck on a cruise ship full of judgmental cruisers criticizing my wardrobe choices and complaining about their dining times. Hopefully that isn’t the case, but it illustrates that you have to take everything you read on the internet with a grain of salt…things are rarely as bad (or as good) as the internet makes them out to be.
  25. One of the articles I was reading talked about her life pre-politics, and I learned she was a professional hockey player in her youth. I am not surprised. She really was a force to be reckoned with, and a very admirable lady.
