  1. We have been loyal to X, but just recently tried Regent (our first with them). 750-person size ship so that also contributes to a different experience. Agree, that depending on the itinerary, R can be about the same price as X. Using deluxe veranda on R vs Sky Ste on X to get closer to cabin size and amenities. So strange. We booked a Japan cruise with R and did a rough price comparison with X. It was nearly the same when you factor in the extra costs (including bus class air) on X. And R for this itinerary includes 3 nites precruise land experience. Go figure. But, we will still use X on occasion. We still like a more relaxed atmosphere sometimes, and the lively bigger ship experience. But for that relatively small difference in price, the R experience is much more elevated. They even have tablecloths in the buffet, full place settings, and excellent dining.
  2. Interesting about new X ships. Recently was on the Regent Grandeur, brand new also, and when seas were over 6 ft swells, it creaked like an old sailing galleon. I don't recall ever a problem like that this X ships, S or M class, even in high seas. Some people were very upset. My cabin was not too bad, but I was using ear plugs anyway. Could there be something universally wrong/inadequate with how ships are being built lately?
  3. Hi. The bathroom was about the same moving around size as a Celebrity line veranda bathroom. But the shower is larger, probably about 3x5ft. That mirror you see in pics opens like a normal vanity cabinet with 3 shelves. There are the additional side shelves, AND above the toilet paper is a recessed shelf. I was able to put all my lotions, potions, medications, do dads and all crazy extra crap I bring in case of emergencies. All fit in there. There are also shelves and drawers in the sitting area for larger items like sunglasses, masks bundles, handiwipes, etc. I have never used one of those hang-on-the-door bags, and still somehow manage to pack away all my stuff. Oh, and the shower as two large glass shelves which can hold many bottles of things. Probably about 3x15in or so. The Veranda closet also has 5 drawers that are very roomy. The hanging area is a bit tight though, so the drawers are needed. There is a drop-down rack, but then you can't hang pants or dresses. Hope this helps, regards, Ellen
  4. I hope someone actually measures it. Now I'm getting curious. Wonder what the measurements are for the Regent king size beds. 🤔
  5. oooh. OBC for bad weather (which is defined by me of course) is an excellent idea. 🙂
  6. Must be. It was definitely bigger than the queen size we sleep on at my son's house. That is very cozy.
  7. Thanks for the explanations. The two sets I saw was a younger gentleman with a baby, and a couple who were daughter of passenger. I didn't know crew could have their visitors too. That is great. They are away from home so long. I didn't know that non-passengers could visit on board a ship. Probably just never noticed before due to being on much larger ships and harder to recognize passengers, let alone who might be a day-guest. Live an' learn. 🙂
  8. I was also surprised that a pet dog was brought on board, especially such a long trip. But also on the last day, there were non-passengers on board during lunch and dinner. Didn't know that was allowed. How is that squared with CBP tracking? Hmm. All interesting.
  9. Hi there. We are just off the 12/21 Panama Canal cruise and were in a Delux Veranda. Thinking they should be the same size bed. While I don't have exact size, and we are fairly slim (more so at the beginning of the cruise 😉 ), we were not overly crowded on it. It wasn't a small Queen. Ours was a pretty firm mattress. I probably should have asked for a mattress foam topper if available, but I managed. The pillows were those down-y types that compress flat. I used two as a side sleeper. 1.5 would have been good. Hope this helps.
  10. I hadn't thought of combining the coverages. My Saphire seems to have a limit of $6,000 (unless I'm reading that wrong--so i'll have to call them) for cancellation which is well short for RSSC trips. But like the idea of insurance for balance needed coverage. Would cut the cost a bit. I will look into this method option as I ease into a normal life schedule. Thanks again 🙂
  11. I agree! I wish the contact info was allowed to be shared on C.C. Frustrating. Well my update is that I got just too overwhelmed by trying to crash learn about ins policies, the prospect of the details of self management, and everything else we have going on right now, that I decided to move my booking to my original TA. She was able to get my normal ins policy for much less than I was seeing retail/online with a few different providers. And got in within the window for the pre-existing condition waiver. As always, I really appreciate everyone's input and your indulgence for my many questions. I am learning! Thank you! Ellen
  12. Hm. Similar methods. This seems in large part to hinge on that rebate perk. And if my need for emergency TA assistance happens during business hours--and they happen to be available. Otherwise the ins Co has assistance. Since this trip is Japan and not familiar at all, we decided to go fully with R so minimal variables. I have like 3 days to find a new TA and get ins with pre-existing condition waiver. Ugh
  13. I feel the same way. I wind up doing all the planning and research myself even though I have the TA. But have been disappointed in my current agent and prefer not to move this booking over there. Frustrating. I haven't gotten the kind of benefit that Lonedaddy and edgee have. I have a lot of work to do in just a few days! Thanks All.
  14. So far, seems like a majority believe in using a TA. Does anyone know if any advantage/disadvantage of purchasing the insurance through the agent? Or is it really simple to do so on own? Is there generally a better price for the insurance through a TA?
  15. Hi there experts! Just off Grandeur and booked a new cruise while on board. I have less than 2 weeks to find a new travel agent and do that transaction. But wondering if there is an advantage to just managing this directly with Regent. We're really busy this month with high-priority issues, like getting a new trip insurance policy for this trip in like the next 3 days I think, among other things. The trip is cruise Tokyo/Tokyo with their 3-day package in April 2025, Explorer. What has been your experiences with both ways of handling a booking? And, any experience/opinions on going with RSSC insurance? Thanks, Ellen
  16. Thank you for working on getting some of those kinks worked out for those boarding on the 21st! Much appreciated 🙂
  17. In regards to your note about people leaving garbage around, on X, there aren't any garbage cans anywhere that I've ever found except in bathrooms. So I hated leaving garbage, but really nowhere to put it without carrying around garbage till you find a bathroom. What are the opportunities for disposal on the Grandeur that we could use? thanks, Ellen
  18. Thanks for posting. We are on board on the 21st. What you describe is disappointing. I hope they get those new ship kinks out real fast. But this does sound different than other recent posted experiences.
  19. Thanks so much for everyone's replies and observations and details notes. Very helpful. We can't wait to experience this new ship.
  20. Hi. Your notes about onboard experience are helpful. Keep them coming. We board on the 21st. Can you say how the ship is handling the open seas? Much rocking and rolling? Have not been on a cruise ship this size. Only very small for Galapogos, and boy did that rock and roll and not even a storm!
  21. We'll be on Grandeur for Christmas/Canal cruise. Glad CR breakfast should not take forever. Would like to do that a few times but don't want to gather dust in the process. 🙂
  22. Oh my goodness! We're definitely coming home a few pounds heavier than upon boarding!
