  1. We got stuck in SA for an ice storm years ago. It poured our entire drive from Galveston to SA but the temps were dropping like a rock. We were kept up at night because of the sounds of the icy smash up derby going on the highway not far from our hotel! The roads were deserted the next day but since we drive on ice a lot, off we went.
  2. It was stated in the post you quoted, "this was not the case before."
  3. Galveston is a great port to sail out of - as long as it's the off season or not spring break! It's cool sailing out amongst the oil derricks. The only better port (IMO) to sail out of in the Gulf or FL would be NOLA, down the Mississippi and then through the Gulf.
  4. For having been here less than a hot minute, you sure like to stir up a lot of crap.
  5. My meds, medical devices, valuables and electronics are too heavy for a tote bag so they go in a small suitcase. And this all started with my comment about rolling the suitcase into the public bathroom but I would rather my cabin be ready for me to use that bathroom. I mean no disrespect, but I didn't ask for you to manage me or my luggage or whatever I choose to carry on board. This thread is supposed to be about not getting into our cabins until much later in the afternoon than used to be the NCL practice of even just a few years ago and the inconveniences that come with it.
  6. Hang a suitcase on a hook? Really? Think about that. It's not a tote bag.
  7. It's not like I'm ingesting them there - I need to have them with me to know where they are. If you had something that was the main thing keeping you alive, my bet is that you'd want to know where it is, too.
  8. I know you think you're being really clever. However, I now have to carry medications for metastatic breast cancer - and prefer to have those with me until we get into our cabin. It's my goal for this to not be my last cruise. While this was not the case before, there were still vital medications in my carry on that I needed then and still need some of those now as well. Granted, it's a much bigger deal now.
  9. They just go down the line of cabins and clean them as they come. Your process would actually slow things down for multiple reasons.
  10. It's more of a case of seeing something shiny and taking off to explore without waiting for me. And there all our carry ons sat when I came out of the restroom. It's happened more than once. And it's just DH and DS (who is now an adult, but wasn't always in those times).
  11. No, just with easily distractable men who won't necessarily remember to keep up with their own luggage muchless my own! And it's hilarious because my husband is usually very focuses - until we board a ship.
  12. How about not lugging a carry on into the public bathroom?!
  13. When we embark the Joy in September, the ship is supposed to leave at 3pm. So this will be quite interesting when we wind up in the MDR for our 5:30 dinner reservation with our carry on luggage.
  14. If I were going to do the online check-in while DH is at work, would I be able to do this if I took his photo before he went to work? First time cruising since having to upload photos.
  15. My best friend and I were looking at cruises for this September (started looking in April) but the prices were well over what we were willing to pay. We live several states away and have both had a really bad past 9 months (understatement for sure). We had given up the idea of cruising - on any line. But she was looking and found one that we wanted to do for a reasonable price, but we had to wait until after final payment for the prices to drop - not my favorite way/time to book a cruise, especially when flying is involved. But we booked anyway. Definitely not at pre-covid prices, but we made peace with it and off we will go!
  16. Which Ariats do you have? I have the H2O (waterproof) Terrains. Bought them for an AK trip in 2007 and have been loving them eer since!
  17. Well, I guess I should clarify. I use cleanser and my fingers to massage the cleanser around my face. Then use the wash cloth to wipe off the cleanser, rinse it then run it over my face again.
  18. First, please don't pack a bath towel. The only towel you might want to pack is a hair towel if you're like me and need microfiber for the hair. The Loqi bags and the like are great and easy to pack and have multiple uses. I am partial to a little crossbody for evenings that can easily slip into other bags when no on the ship.
  19. I'm doing a similar cruise (NYC-Quebec) except it's at the beginning of September. I will be checking the weather for sure because I expect to still have some pretty warm weather and some cooler. I'm going to have to pack a wide variety because we will have a week in Maine after a few days in Quebec City. One night in NYC, cruise is 9 nights, 2 nights in Quebec City, 7 nights in Maine = complicated packing! These are my musts: Comfortable walking shoes - sandals and waterproof walkers packable rain jacket thin long sleeve jacket maybe a sweatshirt
  20. At home I use cleanser and a washcloth. Sometimes when I travel, I use make up remover wipes
  21. IMO, once you fly to HI, you might as well do your own thing for a couple of weeks and then fly back instead of cruise it. I never saw the benefit of cruising HI, or especially cruising to HI (with a total of 10 sea days on other lines). When it comes to Europe, I'm more about the itinerary and care very little about the cruise line or ship. That's a cruise that's way more about the ports than the ship. Same goes for AK in my book. Now, the Caribbean, Bahamas, Bermuda, etc, the ship/line is of more importance to me.
  22. You can do a glacier tour out of Seward for a fraction of that cost. Now, they are smaller and lesser known glaciers, but glaciers nonetheless. There are also glacier tours in kayaks. You can also do the hike to the Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau instead of whale watching. You get really close on that one.
  23. I hadn't heard if they started doing them again since covid.
  24. I thought they did that for everyone?
  25. You'll have to hide your stash from your cabin steward so they dont't take it away. But since they are only servicing cabins once a day, it's not as hard as it used to be!
