  1. Little known, largely overlooked, and extremely interesting The Vancouver Police Museum. https://www.vancouverpolicemuseum.ca/
  2. The Intercontinental is a little bit of a walk from the Amtrak and at 0100 hrs it's not the best idea for a single female or even a couple to walk it. SD even as big as it is becomes a ghost town during the week at that hour and there's plenty of strange people in the area. Get a ride.
  3. SNA would be my choice. It's a much easier airport to navigate in and around. We have stayed at the Hilton across the street and walked to the airport with a carryon. That might save you a day on a rental car if you have one.
  4. We were in no hurry I think we headed off the ship about 0930 hrs. We did grab a porter which probably saved us 20 minutes clearing CBP and we had Global Entry.
  5. We booked our Uber two days before while at sea. There were people who had been waiting at the curb for 20 minutes and no promised Uber driver had taken their fare yet. We walked right to the curb and got in our Uber. I did see several taxis parked just down the sidewalk a short distance.
  6. Agreed to far out for getting cel tower, but not out of sight of land. We see cruise ships all the time. Granted, not very close most times.
  7. No the ships are to far out.
  8. It's always a crap shoot for weather in SF. Even the day prior is no indication of the next day. Plan for layers leaving SF and Alaska. We went in September from Vancouver and coming back to SF. In Alaska we wore long sleeves and ski vests even when up on the glacier. We had very little rain. We had friends pass us going north the next week and they got rain every day and were cold. Glacier Bay will be very cold we couldn't put on enough clothing to keep warm.
  9. Are you flying in the day before? If you are I would stay at the Hyatt inside MCO and then use the ship shuttle to the pier the next day. Otherwise we always stay in Coco Beach at one of the Hilton properties and Uber to the port. Keep in mind April is Spring Break and hotels can be expensive and book up quick. I would RSVP one ASAP with a good cancelation policy (like Hilton) and then you can always shop around later.
  10. Make RSVP's otherwise you might stand in line for an hour on "first come first serve" as we found in the French Quarter in December.
  11. Cedar has been bad this year. I don't usually have issues, but this last couple of months have even gotten to me.
  12. We did one in March and got stormed on the first day and the last day. It was a bummer that our last full sea day you couldn't be out on deck even under cover was cold and windy.
  13. We have visited Catalina as a port stop, day trip, and also a long weekend at a hotel. The golf cart is fun just make sure you have your DL and proof of insurance. CA DMV considers them motor vehicles so you will need both. You can't just go anywhere you want as they are restricted to specific roads. But still plenty of fun. You will return it with plenty of time to walk around Avalon and grab a drink or food. We also did the "submarine" which was interesting.
  14. Do you have Global Entry? If you do then it shouldn't be an issue.
  15. I would be more concerned about the drivers in LA during the storm than the ship.
  16. Exactly what I would do. Much less stress. We stay over often until a Monday and fly home as it's usually cheaper and more early AM flight options. Our most recent cruise on the Wonder of the Seas we had to divert to San Juan for a medical emergency and our seven day cruise turned into an eight day with debarkation on Monday instead of Sunday. We were advised on Saturday of the change. Since our flight wasn't until Monday we were fine, but there was a lot of frantic phone calls from the ship.
  17. Nice, sadly Calafia hotel and bar is pretty much defunct now. La Fonda has some nice places. Puerto Nuevo has become to touristy but still a couple of places we like. Ortega's has a place in Rosarito that is just as good and not the drive. No more $20 for two, but still cheap compared to San Diego.
  18. He does know all the best places for loobster. I offered to buy him some new cards but that's sort of become his signature trademark. He took six of us on a great wine country trip in October. We did three of the lesser known places and they were all great and not crowded with tourists.
  19. We have a private driver here in Rosarito we use locally and also to pickup friends at SAN and bring them down/back. He will also go north from here all the way to LAX, so I'm guessing he would do SAN to Carlsbad. He's on FB and I usually reach him via FB messenger. He's very reliable and has several vehicles at his disposal.
  20. Normally I would agree but last year at San Pedro people were waiting 20-30 minutes for their ride shares and some couldn’t even get drivers to confirm. We walked right out and had our ride in a few minutes. If it’s a high volume event I would RSVP. We had the same thing happen in Paris, one night I found no Uber available for about 30 minutes. For the next night I RSVP’ed in the afternoon.
  21. Uber or Lyft is your best choice. CruiserBruce nailed it on just walk to the other side of the street and maybe down a side street a little to avoid the crowd. I make the same suggestion for San Diego all the time. I don't see a reason to order in advance as they are all over the place.
  22. If your are spending that much time in the City then check out these walking tours with https://wildsftours.com/ We visited SF frequently and just did our own thing for mostly long weekend 2-3 times a year when hotel rates bottomed. Once we had out of state friends doing a road trip up the coast and we met them in SF. I wanted to find something unique for them and ran across "Wild SF Walking Tours." It was awesome. We did the China Town walking tour and at the end hung around and took the tour guide out for lunch at his fav China Town restaurant. It was outstanding. It appears they have scaled back their tours considerably, but this would still be a great option. Also maybe try https://avitalexperiences.com/san-francisco/
  23. They must have edited the article as the original headline used the term "hours", which was a quote. I used "massive" in my Topic Headline. I'm guessing SFGate to much pushback and edited their article.
