  1. They aren't really "low end." It's because there's a huge turn over for pre-cruisers who just want a place to stay for a night. I'm Hilton brand loyal and stayed at the DT in July pre-cruise. It was dark, outdated, and worn around the edges. Probably worse Hilton property I have stayed at in the last two years (I have 45 nights Hilton stays). Hilton needs to take a break at this property and do some renovations to the rooms. Public spaces look fine, but the rooms are showing their age. Upside, the food venues were very good for views and fare. It also appears they do a lot of weddings and public events. So people stay because they "have to" and not because they "want to." When you have a hotel that gets 5-7 night resort stays it's easier to keep it looking nice, rather than a turn over every 1-2 nights.
  2. I already have my TA ready to put us on the trans-Atlantic.
  3. Under $200, won't happen in the City. If you stay at a nice hotel then the smell of weed shouldn't be an issue. Most people in the nicer places vape anyway. However, your price range for the most part might not get you what/where you want. Years ago I could get rooms for under $300 on the weekend at St Francis. Also, gotten rooms at Hilton Union Square and Financial District for around $300 on the weekend. Those rooms are double that during the week due to business travelers. Hopefully, you won't need parking. Around $200 you might want to look out by the airport or across the bridge in Oakland. Homeless are everywhere as are the feces. That's why we stopped going to the City even before COVID. It's a shame as we use to go 2-3 times a year for a long weekend.
  4. There are several schedule rocket launches coming up in November. Here's a good www site to keep track of themhttps://www.spacelaunchschedule.com/category/fl/ and other upcoming launches.
  5. Us too, as much as we don't really like Galveston as a departure port we would to sail on Allure with only a four hour drive from our Texas home.
  6. No real fav, we have done the Allure twice and Oasis once and loved them both. Except for the shows they are pretty close to the same. We loved the Prohibition Party (can't recall the ship) but it was only on the ship with Chicago as the main stage show. We are on the Wonder for Thanksgiving. Our first was on Oasis as a "family obligation" trip. DW and I were all set to not like the mega ship. Second day out we are planning when we can come back with our side of the family.
  7. River cruise ships call those drop down windows "French Balcony" and for small cabins they are pretty cool. I think we have one on an upcoming Avalon river cruise in south of France. If I didn't want to pay for a balcony then I would pay for one of these just to be able to hear the waves and get some fresh air.
  8. I was able to get 1200-1230 for our Thanksgiving Wonder cruise and didn't have to get up at 0400 hrs to do it. I checked in around 1000 hrs and all the slots were open, even earlier ones, but noon worked just fine.
  9. This is why I let my TA handle it. She just combined six FCC's from our kids reservations when they decided not to go. She got them all credited to our account before final payment.
  10. Unless you are a marijuana farmer or going to college there there's not much reason to stop. The northern CA coast is doted with several unique places (Ferndale and Fort Bragg) that we have visited via Harley rides. But as for supporting a cruise stop, not so much.
  11. I'm Hilton brand loyal and usually go to GalleryOne Doubletree or the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort. I like the beach resort a little better. But the GalleryOne has the water taxi stop and some really large rooms with kitchenettes if needed.
  12. Considering both options. I have looked at the Youtube videos on the glass igloos that might be a possibility. I was concerned about the lights from the ship. I have found a couple of "big" ship itineraries that spend at least 6-7 days far enough north; even more north than Tromso that I figured would maximize the chances. Upside/downside is cruises seem inexpensive compared to land vacations, $800 a night for an igloo or $3000 for 10-12 night cruise. Plus getting to the cruise port looks a little less convoluted than to an igloo. We shall see what the future brings.
  13. Anybody know why I'm having trouble booking an Uber from MCO to Coco Beach Hotel for early November. It gives me an error and tells me I have to either try a "demand" booking or change my pickup location. Is Uber not allowed at MCO? We are actually at the Hyatt Regency MCO.
  14. We were on Navigator in July on a four night Mexico. Except for Jamie's I wasn't impressed with any of the food places. Jamie's service did leave a little to be desired. Windjammer had some very good and just Ok options. Playmakers was fine for bar food and people watching. Overall the ship is small, but well maintained and staff was outstanding. We were able to get casitas two days by just going early. But I understand that's all changed and now they charge and you have to RSVP. They were well worth it for a day on deck. The water slides are very cool, but can be a long line and stuffy walking up the stairs.
  15. There use to be a rental car place at the pier. We rented a jeep for 1/2 day and just drove around on our own. Drove up to Kokomo Beach and spent some time there. It's really impossible to get lost. Then we came back and walked into town for an hour or so.
  16. I have an older model of that one and have never had an issue taking it. Couple that with a UK two pin adapter and you have plenty of plug in places.
  17. I have a northern lights trip on my bucket list. There are limited cruises and Hurtigruten seems to have the most. How would you rate them pros & cons to the other cruise lines?
  18. DW uses a shortened first name in regular life but all her legal doc's are in the full first name. We haven't had an issue yet but always try to use the full name for travel, no reason to take a chance.
  19. Good luck and let us know if it drops that far. I bought at $72 about a week after it had been $68 and I haven't seen it below $72. Even if it went to $68 again I'm not sure it would be worth the hassle to cancel and rebook for $5 a day.
  20. It's like hitting a moving target. We have only found prices to go down from "normal" during big holiday sales like Black Friday or Labor Day. The problem is unless you track the "normal" prices you don't know. If you think it's a good deal then buy it. If it goes down enough cancel and rebook. I tracked DBP for months for our upcoming Thanksgiving cruise on Wonder. I fully expected a holiday cruise to be high. Lowest was $68, then $72, and then $78. Just before Labor Day it went to $78 and then the "sale" was $72. After the sale back to $78 and yesterday $73. We bought all day passes for Coco Caye Beach Club about five months ago for $125. They went to almost $200 and have stayed there.
