  1. Good advice! Just booked a solo on the Victory for November 19. Balcony cabin for under $900...over Thanksgiving too!

There are deals to be found, if you are willing to sail on the smaller older ships.

Agreed I'm doing the Fantasy in January as a solo. I have a mini-suite with pre-paid gratuities and the cost before port fees and taxes was $1000. Worth it to me as I look it as if I stayed in a hotel for 4 nights and had to pay for food/drink (non-alcoholic although I will be getting cheers.) It would cost me more.

  2. Go to the spa, read in the library, go to a cooking demo, mixology competition, bingo, mini golf, games (like ping pong)...the daily sheet they give you will have TONS of stuff to do throughout the day.

  3. No US credit cards or debit cards.

Do not even tell your bank you’re going to Cuba. They will suspend your account until you get back from your trip. Big Booming Voice of Experience. **

No phone service but she can buy some WiFi time. Need to buy a card. $3 for an hour. For a cruise visiting for a day, not worth the hassle of figuring out where to buy the card.

**DD did a land trip to Cuba and Panama. The bank was going to suspend her cards until she came back. Meaning no access anywhere, even Panama.

Sailed on the Norwegian Sky to Cuba in June 2018. Regarding the bank card - The account I use most often is PNC. It's a VISA debit not a credit card. I completed the travel form before leaving and had zero issues with using it when we arrived back to Miami.

  4. Keto Mac & Cheese w/Ham

    Directions:

Heat oven to 350. Rinse and boil the noodles. If desired, cut a little shorter. Place the cubed ham in a pie dish sprayed with a bit of EVOO. Place noodles on top. In a pot, melt the butter, both types of cheese, heavy cream and mustard until smooth. Pour over noodles and ham. Bake at 350 for about 35 minutes.

    7 Ingredients

    • 1.33 cup, Premium Cubed Boneless Ham
    • 2 cup, Shredded Sharp Cheddar
    • 4 Tbsp, Neufchatel Cheese Fit & Active
    • 4 tablespoon, Heavy Whipping Cream

    • 1 tbsp, Unsalted Butter
    • 16.00 oz, the No Calorie Noodle
    • 4 Tsp, Stone Ground Dijon Mustard

  5. There are plenty of other options. Walking tours, car tours, horse & buggy or if you don't need a guide you can just walk around. OnCuba Travels and Blexi are two that I have heard good things about. We did not book through NCL on our cuba trip.

  6. I am definitely IN! I have 108 days until my cruise and want to lose a minimum of 47 pounds to hit my goal of 180 for vacation time! I hear keto is the way to go for that kind of loss. I have dabbled in low carb but I want to take it to the next level! Starting right now with a weight of 227.

I have been a trainer and nutrition coach for many years. If your cruise is 108 days away and you want to lose 47 pounds that is about 1lb every 2 days. That is highly unlikely. Safe, effective weight loss for women over 30 is 1-2 lbs per week, for men it's 2-5 lbs per week. I am 40 5'3" exercise 5 days per week and today is my fourth week of keto. I have lost 5lbs. Now I don't have more than 20 lbs to lose and don't "carry" a lot of water. You may see a more drastic drop the first week or two.

I don't say this to be discouraging. I love keto and 5lbs has me happy!!! However, I state the above in order to make sure you're not expecting a ketogenic type diet to be something it's not. Besides not eating more than 25g of carbs per day. You must also drink plenty of water and watch your overall calories. If you currently intake 2500 calories and simply switch to 2500 calories with most of them now from fat/protein. You will likely not see the results you are expecting. You must burn more calories than you consume in a day.

I use myfitnesspal to track both macro nutrients and calories. Good Luck and please don't hesitate to ask questions.

  7. No, there is no outdoor movie. In June I took the Sky to Cuba. There were kids. There was a lot of drinking. There are no water slides or race tracks. There is a basketball court, arcade and a Splash Academy.

  8. If they won't provide the recording voluntarily, you have options.

    1) If you’re a victim of identity theft, under the Fair Credit Reporting Act you can get a copy of a call the fraudster made in which they conducted a transaction using your information. This is provided that the call was recorded and a copy of the recording was saved.

    2) You can file suit and ask for the information in Discovery. They HAVE to comply. If not, they are in contempt.

  9. Is there a plan you follow, a book? I would like to try it but don't know where to start.

www.ibreatheimhungry.com has a 3 day jump start as well as weekly meal plans and recipes. There is also a calculator to help you figure out how many calories per day you should consume. Remember, no matter what nutrition style you choose, you still can't eat more calories than you "need" and lose weight. Calories In < Calories Out!!!

  10. Hey y'all! We are sailing on the Carnival Magic next May out of Port Everglades, and I have a couple of questions.

    1. My brother in law has booked a cabin on this cruise by himself. He couldn't find anyone that would commit to the vacation with him, so he booked alone. We were wondering if/how he could add a guest to his booking if by some chance he found someone to go with him.

    2. Does anyone know when the Magic will transition to Port Everglades?

    Thanks in advance!

If you booked through a TA you need to call the TA. I was told by mine that all I had to do was call her if I decide to take someone with me. However, I have a promotion where my gratuities are paid as a promotion. She said the fare would remain the same.

  11. If you like the idea of "pasta" try Shirataki noodles. My favorite brand is NoOodles. They do have an odor. I pour the bag into a colander in the sink and rinse well. Then I boil for 5 minutes and drain.

I used them last night to make Keto Baked Spaghetti. I've also used them to make Keto Mac & Cheese.

  12. If it is just you and your husband, go to the Hostess Stand at the restaurant and ask if there is space available. You might have to wait a few minutes for a table, but they will try to accommodate date you if possible. As a solo passenger, I never make dinner reservations and am always accommodated.

I'm curious, as a fellow solo, why do you not make reservations?

  13. Carnival allows you to carry on a limited amount of non alcoholic drinks that are packaged in a can or carton. Can I carry on non-alcoholic daiquiri mix in a carton and pre purchase vodka from carnival for consumption in the cabin?

Yes, but why are you putting Vodka in Daiquiri mix? Do you prefer that over Rum?

  14. What I have been told is the crew member must turn in any cash tip he or she receives from a passenger along with the name of the passenger. The tip is recorded and will be returned to the crew member once it has been verified that the passenger paid the full automatic gratuity. If not, the cash tip remains in the pool.

    Seconded

  15. Two assumptions:

    1) Each drink is $8

    2) Cruise is 5 days

    Cost of package per day $89 + 20% ($17.80) = $106.80/day = $534

    If I were to drink 8 $8 (plus 20% = $1.6) drinks per day that would be $64 plus $12.80 = $76.80 = $384

Therefore, using ONLY the above assumptions, it would be more cost effective to pay per drink rather than buy the package.

  16. I have been able to maintain ketosis while indulging in Champagne, Prosecco and Blanc de Blanc.

"A 4-ounce serving of champagne contains just 1.6 grams of carbohydrates." "The carbohydrate content of champagne is lower than that of other types of wine. Per 5-ounce serving, white and red table wines contain about 3.8 grams of carbs. Sweet dessert wine, which some people favor over champagne as a post-dinner drink, is significantly higher, with 14.1 grams of carbs in a 3.5-ounce glass."
