We carry on a backpack/beach bag with our swimwear in it. Tradition is to be in the pool with the first frozen drink before we set sail.

Cruise ship NORWEGIAN PRIMA broke off her moorings in the afternoon Jul 15 at Zeebrugge, in strong wind weather. Gangways were dragged and fell into water. No injures, the majority of passengers went ashore.

Where does one get this milkshake? 🙂

That is why we are curious about the water issues inside that ship.
That is my question.
That video of the flooded crew hallway looks like there is a broken door or something. It would be interesting to know where that was.

Honestly, if someone decides not to cruise again because of this, it might be for the best that they don't. It was rough seas. There was no danger. Believe it or not, if there had been an actual threat of danger, it would have been communicated.
If you were a new cruiser, how would you know there was no danger? If the conditions on board were bad enough that many people seem to have been awake, they could have made a bridge announcement. They certainly could have acknowledged that it happened during morning announcements. Communication could have avoided a lot of this.

Perhaps the big story is that the ship did dock, debarked their passengers, and embarked another group. "Severe damage" would have certainly caused the cancelation of the following cruise.

I imagine it was a lot of work for the crew, especially room stewards. They person who was on board talked about broken glass in her cabin and hers was probably not the only one. But they DID manage to leave that day, so it was cosmetic, not structural.

Was it on this voyage? I’ve seen multiple media reports that have used stock/ archived footage of previous flooding instances. The only photos I’ve seen of flooding on this crew are those of crew spaces, which have been misidentified as passenger areas by various outlets.About 30 seconds in.
Other coverage pointed out that most of this was overnight when they normally do not do announcements.

I just saw the report on the evening news. While they showed the previously mentioned flooded halls in the crew areas, there was some man sloshing around in a hallway with the passenger area carpets.

On other cruise lines, you can use your onboard credit in the casino.....then cash out. Is that possible on Holland?

The wind chill on a moving ship makes a big difference in the “real feel” of cold weather. The multiple layers of warm clothing were necessary to stay out on deck for long periods of time.I was envious of those with balcony cabins that could duck inside to warm up. Unfortunately to get a balcony on the Zaandam would have meant booking a suite…which wasn’t in our budget. I believe I would splurge to get the balcony on the Oosterdam if we were to do this itinerary again!
We did splurge for the balcony. 🙂
We did Alaska in May, and layers definitely helped, with a windbreaker on top. I'm hoping their naturalist on board is as good as the one we had in Alaska.

B/A in their summer is in the upper 80's F if you trust their pools or beaches.
I was thinking on board ship. I'm not wasting my shore time by going to a beach to swim. I have penguins to see!

Next question: is there any point to bringing swimwear? 🙂

Thank you all! We have booked a starboard-side verandah cabin on Deck 4. This is going to be amazing!

Did anyone rent a cabana in The Retreat? We did for the week in Alaska, and it was fabulous. It's obviously prohibitive for 22 days, but a day rental is an idea for some of the scenic areas.

We are looking at the 22 day South America and Antarctica for either Dec. 2023, or December 2024. Question: would we get much use from a verandah cabin? We did fine with one in Alaska, but I don't know if this will be markedly cooler.
Thanks.

I hope they come back and let us know if it worked!

The owl hitched a ride on the Symphony of the Seas cruise ship and joined passengers for their two-week holiday.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission sent a biologist when the ship returned to help get the bird off the ship before the new passengers embarked for their trip to Mexico.

Is this the same wording as before, or is this new?

I sailed 7 nights on Serenade from Tampa in November 2022. I ate all meals in Windjammer ... and daily at lunch and dinner there was an Indian food buffet - at which I participated frequently. I enjoyed it.
But everything there is mild, suitable for a general audience. Some people would love a spicy-hot dish.

I was wondering if this was from extraordinary rainfall, or unusual glacial melt. They are saying it was 3 feet above the record high water mark. 😞
