Heading on a16 day Escape next month with just roller board and side bag. It'll be 1st time for me having ship do some laundry.

My last cruise (my 5th on NCL) was my first time having laundry done

Never paid to have my laundry done....But I certainly use the free bag I get now!

I didn't either, until my 15-day.  Now I'm Platinum and get a free bag, I'm sending it out on more cruises (I only go once a year, but still)  and packing lighter!!!

I am happy with an inside cabin but I am not EVER taking flights involving two connections and layovers exceeding five hours or being routed through Canada to get to Europe.  There are plenty of non-stops to Europe from New York.

In your case - you're fortunate to live in proximity to a major city where this is an option. I live 3+ hours North, unless I make that 3+ hour drive to NY (or to Montreal or Boston for that matter as it's about the same to all 3) there is a ZERO chance I could get to Europe without at least one connection, and getting to a specific city in Europe could require two.  Shoot - unless I'm going to a hub city there are VERY few non-stop flights from my home airport to domestic destinations!

These seem most likely to be the ones cancelled for some reason, so since I am remaining on the ship, there are no shore excursions in jeopardy.

Oddly enough - my cancelled excursion was in a port that was very possible to be cancelled, Acapulco, but we ported there...

  4. @The Traveling Man using Google Earth I get a measurement of 1,080 feet for the graving dock.  The Viva, per Wikipedia, is 981 feet.  PLENTY of room.  To give an idea of the scale of the space at the land end of the ship, it looks like a 20 foot container is in the dock behind the ship.  That gives you considerably more than 50 feet of free space.

The one to the right of the photo is the Pr1ma, which would seem to indicate that the one in dry dock on the left is the V!va.  Since the Pr1ma is far from complete in this view, that dates the photo to sometime in late 2021 or early 2022.

Considering Aqua wasn't started until some time after Viva was complete, this would be the only explanation of timeline when two Prima class ships were in that location.

  6. Just be aware - if the excursion is cancelled on embarkation day or after the credit goes on your account in a very odd way, I got bitten by this.  They initially refund the FULL PRICE of the excursion, if you booked pre-cruise and got the discount at the time of payment they will subsequently charge your account that $50.

How did I get 'bit'?  I thought I had a bunch of credit to use, not realizing it would be a second transaction to 'claw back' the excursion credit, so I paid for internet for the trip to use it.  The next day is a $50 charge from shorex...

Not sure if you know this.  If an airline makes a change to your flight of more than one hour, you can call in and get ANY flight of your choice that same day with no change fee and no additional cost (no matter the cost of teh flight).

I'm aware.  Southwest emailed me and explained the options, I wanted the earlier flight as that allowed extra flight options from BWI to FLL in case of a delay at home or a cancellation in Baltimore.  It turned out to work out - I got in to FLL around 1:30 or 2, didn't get to Miami until 4...

It is just as likely that the airline cancelled or changed the original flight,

Happened to me with my last cruise, but I self-booked the flights.  About 6 weeks prior to the cruise Southwest decided to cancel the flight I had booked, forcing me from a 10:30 AM flight to a 6:30 AM flight.  Both were the day before the cruise so it didn't matter much anyway, except that I no longer had a ride to the airport, I had to leave my car and my ride turned into them picking my car up instead (airport parking for 18 days would not have been cheap!!)

It seems they're fiddling with things to most efficiently use their fleet.

One other issue is we booked a category in the Haven proper thru a TA to discover when we arrived we had access to the Haven but not in it.

Who told you that you were in the "Haven Proper"?  I would have asked what cabin number and verified for myself before agreeing to complete the booking.  It's certainly something I would have done 2 minutes of research on once I got the room number...

Thats another good story about the NCL PCC who left their position for a promotion but still was able to book your friend at the same price even though the prices went up.  Perks booking directly with the cruise line are rarely mentioned.

It wasn't much of a price increase, maybe $100 or so.  I'm not sure if the PCC gave my friend the same 10% Latitudes discount that I used (it was his first cruise).

they are widely traded in aftermarket online sites, often at a discount.

and that market is surely drying up as they no longer expire.  Unless someone has a need for the cash there's zero reason to sell anymore unless they absolutely never plan on sailing NCL again..

  12. Not the same ship, but should be similar fleet-wide, here's a recent previous thread (just entered vegan or vegetarian in the helpful search box) with similar discussion

You might find more threads by using the search.

I think I am in the minority who has been working with the same PCP for over 15 years now.

I booked my last cruise through my assigned PCC (using one for the first time), 2 weeks later when a friend called her to book the same cruise she had been promoted and was no longer taking bookings directly (though she processed my friend's booking and gave him the same price as I got even though the price had gone up).  I now have a new PCC assigned but I've heard nothing from them so far, either as a final check in to be sure I had things all square for the cruise or as a follow-up to see how the trip was.

The use of 2 or more tugboats to assist in the final docking, also, not a good indicator - suggesting maybe the azipods and steering might be in play.

Not necessarily - I'll let @chengkp75 explain it, but the tugs may have been precautionary due to whatever caused the reduction in speed (likely a generator unexpectedly offline).

  15. The menus in each MDR are identical to the others.  Each night will be a menu selected from NCL's 21 corporate menus.  Some entrees (left side) will be the same every night, others (right side) will change from night to night, as will the appetizers (some are every night, some switch out) and desserts.

As simple as this sounds, I think for a NCL first-timer going on a +3 week-long cruise this is going to take a spreadsheet. 😉

Just think of it this way - as long as you have a Free-At-Sea credit available (meaning you haven't booked enough restaurants to use your allotment already) you won't be billed for a fixed-price place at the time of booking.

Being an NCL first-timer you won't be looking to book "Platinum" meals any time soon.

I don't believe this is true at all with AT&T. In looking at theit website it appears that Canada is not on any plan...at least not back in 2019. I know I had to add the Intetnational Day Pass at $10/day (which is still pretty cheap) in order to be able to access my Google Maps so I could get directions in Halifax.

This is why I suggested way back in my first reply that the OP should consult the carrier related to their plan...

You don't "log off" the internet, you just close browser

Wrong.  You have to go to a site such as logout.com (it redirects to the correct page because of how web browsing works) to then log off and stop the clock.  Been there, done that, did it less than 2 months ago.  This is the ONLY way to stop the clock on internet use.

and are registered on the ship for internet use (therefore on the ship's wifi)

They need to be on the WiFi but they certainly don't need to have paid for an internet plan to have iMessage, unless they want to send pictures.
