  1. Dining room is on deck 1, 2 and 7….there is no dining on deck 3 or 5. Deck 4, you only have cabins between you. Viking rooms are extraordinarily quiet.
  2. Tendering on Viking is normally due to when your excursion leaves, not room category. If you have a private tour, you can make arrangements to leave accordingly. I think as long as you have access to a railing, you should be good. There are many unstable people on a tender who manage ok.
  3. Star Theater has blankets you can grab. They are also on the lounge chairs overlooking the windows on deck 7 near the pool. I don’t remember being chilled in any of the restaurants though.
  4. IME, it is usually announced the day of the event. I don’t ever remember it being early in the cruise either.
  5. Our 54 day back to back to back, we had a lot of cancellations. A good chunk of that cruise was paid for by vouchers from Covid canceled cruises. We had a lot of canceled ports, therefore a lot of canceled excursions. Her’s what happened…. When Turkey was canceled (Italy didn’t want tourists who had been in Turkey previously), this happened about 2 weeks before we left. Those excursion $$ went directly back to the credit card. We lost Alhambra due to high winds. We provisioned and left a few hours after docking so all excursions were canceled. Alhambra was paid for from OBC we received from Viking. This was a non refundable credit, so the $$ went back into our on board account as such. We lost excursions in Morocco, Senegal, Brazil, Falklands and a few in Argentina that were paid for by credit card before we embarked during the cruise. Those credits came back onto our on board account as refundable credit. At the end of the cruise (I think at one time our account had a $5000+ credit) when our bar tab was paid, gratuity paid, I took a shopping trip and bought a couple jackets and requested a private driver to take us from Valparaiso to our hotel in Santiago, we had $12 left of non refundable credit and $1400 of refundable. The $1400 was refunded to DH and I by check about 6 weeks after we returned. It does get horribly confusing.
  6. And to think I was making due with only on3 scoop!
  7. We stayed in Petit Palace in Ramblas in Barcelona. The entrance is on the walkway so when we were dropped off by the taxi, we had to walk about a block to the hotel entrance. When the taxi picked us up for our very early morning flight, he was able to enter the walkway. It was a very comfortable, quiet hotel where our hotel overlooked a courtyard and had an excellent breakfast available. I’d have no problems staying here again. We had tickets to the Opera the following night at Grand Teatre del Liceu and it was a short walk.
  8. You didn’t mention wanting to see the menu before you sailed, just before you made your reservations. TBH, I have yet to make a reservation before I sail and make reservations for both restaurants once I’m on board.
  9. You can see which menu is for what night on the TV in your room. This is how we decided which menu to make a reservation for.
  10. I opened this, expecting to hear about shoddy treatment. Instead, I find out he is complaining about billing practices…..which are well known if you do any sort of research. So much wind about nothing.
  11. Sounds lik3 a good reason to take a vacation in UK, Netherlands or India. 😀
  12. We are doing the Bangkok to Vancouver part spring 2024.
  13. Canada has stopped testing crossing the border. While we have not flown, our last few trips across the border we have not needed to test. However, during the whole pandemic, country testing has not always aligned with Viking’s. Viking can still require a negative test, even if the country does not. We ran into this situation too.
  14. On most of our cruises, we just checked the menus on the TV each morning for the day. Depending on what was being served where, we’d plan on that for dinner. I think a few times we did schedule in advance (the TV will say what Chef’s Table menu is served what day of your cruise). This was for the cruise we took Oct-Dec 2021. I haven’t used the app for that.
  15. This is what we do too. It’s never been a problem.
  16. The corollary to this is that if you never get seasick, it can happen to you. Not happened to me, but DH got seasick on a dive trip. Never been seasick before, hasn't since but it does happen.
  17. Our first TA, we arrived in Lisbon without our luggage. As we had never been to Lisbon before, we chose to arrive 3 days early. Our luggage did show up before we left, but DH and I had a plan that if it didn’t arrive by a certain time, we were going to need to do some shopping. I halfway expected our luggage not to make our flight, as we had a horribly tight connection in AMS as our flight was nearly 2 hours late getting in. On that cruise, our next stop was the Azores, then nothing until Bermuda.
  18. We met a cruiser on our last ocean cruise whose luggage was lost and she was on the trans Atlantic from Barcelona to Buenos Aires. She did try to go shopping, but as she was a larger woman she didn’t find much she could wear that fit in Barcelona. Between what she was able to find, and what other women on the cruise loaned her, she managed to make do.
  19. I saw some similar on Amazon. Same shape, but rather than all having blue bottoms there was a variety of colors.
  20. From my understanding, as the Falklands is a tender port, that chances of getting there is about 50%. We made it, but the cruise after us and the one before us did not. As I remember it, we had the worst weather attempting to go around the Horn on that cruise. The captain started and did a U turn and took us back through the Beagle channel (I think this one). The following trip (we did this twice in both directions, once before and once during Covid) we lost Falklands, but made it around the Horn. Second sailing was much calmer than the first.
  21. We are acquiring a collection of pouches flying business class. Delta’s are supplied by Tumi.
  22. In reality, keeping to one’s self might be a result of Covid rather than sociability. I noticed this was true on our last few cruises, that many were trying to keep their own bubble within the ship. We pretty much did it on our last river cruise, to try to minimize the likelihood of getting booted off.
  23. No pouches on any cruise since the one we took in 2019-20. We are getting a collection of luggage tags too.
