I think my dad has written to P&O asking them to warn passengers when going ashore in Tenerife. He says they warn about pickpockets in various ports so this shouldn’t be any different.

Thank you, I’ve had a quick look at that link and many of the shops/situations discussed sounds exactly like my dad’s experience, I think one even mentions the same shop. It’s awful that it is so rife.

Thank you Kalos It was 2 cards, not sure if credit or debit, the guy said the first card hadn’t worked and asked for another 🥴 My dad is usually pretty savvy with that type of thing but does love a gadget so what seemed like a good deal won him over. One of the banks initially said no refund but after a few calls have agreed to look into it. The other bank say they may be able to reimburse, so he’s just waiting and hoping to get some money back. That’s a good idea about the travel money card. If they do their Med cruise in September I’ll help him get one of those. I’m off to the Canaries this August so will do the same for us. We’ve since heard about quite a few people who have been scammed from the same or similar shop in Playa Las Americas. 😳

I think it’s put them off going abroad on their own. Theyve said they’d feel more confident if me, my sister or brother were with them to take over the organising and responsibility. They’ve got another cruise booked on Arvia in September but they’re considering cancelling it. I’m hoping they will still go or at least move their booking to a ship where they can do Club dining and not have to worry about booking tables for dinner.

Afternoon all. My parents got back from their cruise yesterday morning, it didn’t go fantastically well 🥴 Dad was scammed out of a large sum of money in Tenerife, which meant he was stressed for 3/4 of the holiday. They were a group of 5, and 3 of them, including mum have tested positive for covid today. Mum started coughing and feeling rough last night 🥴

Our little grandson was getting frustrated with a toy at church this morning and said in a very loud voice “poxy thing!” 2 year olds copy everything 😂

Oh well, no harm asking and he even if he doesn't get a prawn cocktail he might find out why they aren't available.

My parents are also onboard and have said its been very mixed. Dad said he had one of the best MDR meals he's ever had on Sunday, but then on Monday's formal night he said it was one of the worst he's ever had. They have both said service has been slow at times. One night they had to cancel their desert order otherwise they would have missed the show they had booked. Dad said he hasn't seen prawn cocktail on any menu yet, he would always look for it as that's his favourite, but they did get prawn canapes delivered to their cabin.

30+ years ago, I looked after a child called Thor in the nursery class I worked in at the time, turns out he was very aptly named 🤣

I’ve heard from my parents a few times since they set sail on Iona on Saturday. It’s been quite ‘bumpy’ weather, the outside decks have been closed off, but it’s calmer today so they are hoping to get out on deck and enjoy some fresh air. They said MDR food has been good until last night. It was formal night and they waited ages for their food and then didn’t like it when it eventually arrived. They aren’t fussy eaters so it’s unusual for them not to like the food. Mum made me laugh, her friend had issues with the automatic doors on the disabled loo and mum had to stand in front blocking the view of her friend on the ‘throne’ In May it was my sister using her posh frock to hide mum from view when the door opened unexpectedly 😂

Thank you. Are C deck balconies partially overlooked and partially covered? We have to go in school summer holidays so we thought a bigger balcony would be a nice escape area if outside decks get too busy/noisy.

I’ve just had a quick look through those menus…no prawn cocktails? 😳 We’re going to the Canaries on Ventura this summer. We really liked the newness and light, airy feel of Iona so we aren’t sure what we’ll make of on older, smaller ship. with what looks like a much smaller cabin but it was the most affordable 2 week option for us so we’ll give it a go 😊 Mum & Dad prefer Ventura over Iona. I know some people say they are barely in their cabins other than to sleep but we enjoyed relaxing on our balcony and did spend time in our cabin last May. We have booked a C deck balcony cabin on Ventura as apparently the balconies are deeper.

Yes thank you, the boot came off last week. She managed to fall over again while it was still broken and damaged her shoulder/arm just before Christmas and spent Christmas in a boot and sling. All good now though 🤞
