  1. At Kaub we passed Viking The tower showed 86cm and then 85cm after we passed
  2. Good Morning We are on the Rhine and left Lahnstein at 5:30am and will be sailing the Gorge. Yesterday evening Uniworld and Tauck ships were both headed northbound. Just passing Boppart and we pasted several double barge and 1 barge of 4 sailing north. Traffic is busy
  3. Beautiful country. My family is from near Ludwigshafen and I will be passing the closest any of my family have been to Eschelbrun where we are from!!!!
  4. Not quite on topic but we are currently on the Moselle just past Mehring and it has been raining for about an hour. Fields nearby are so dry . Sailing to Basel and have been told we should be able to make it through the Rhine gorge later this week.
  5. I've been on several Avalon cruises and they welcome you onboard anytime after 12pm. Rooms keys may not be given until 3pm when pre excursion guests arrived. In the case of Budapest, guests will be directed to a local hotel (Intercontinental Hotel) and then Avalon transfers you to the ship as a group. Some cities the docking locations can change or isn't easily accessible.
  6. Regarding ship tracking apps & websites. I've noticed that frequently ships don't report for days or their location never changes. The when they do start reporting again they've travelling a far distance. Sometimes the reporting is working for 1/2 days and then nothing for 3/4 days.
  7. Forecast looks someone promising for rain on Saturday. This may help relieve the low water
  8. We leave Saturday for Luxembourg. AMACerto cruise starts in a week at Wasserbillig on Aug 30th. Down the Moselle to the Rhine, and up the Rhine to Basel. We'll be a Kaub on Sept1st. Worst case scenario we're bussed from Koblenz to Heidelberg or Strasbourg.
  9. Myshiptracking is also a very good website for finding vessel/tracking your ship.
  10. Both are great options. Not sure if this matters to you, but Cesky Krumlov & Saltzburg are very nice in the summer when the flowers are out.
  11. Thanks I provide Sage advice all the Thyme. 😁 LOL I'm here until Saturday
  12. Basel is in Switzerland. Basil is in my garden planters.
  13. There were some reports on another board that Magna was docked in Budapast a few days ago. She should be on her way to Vilshofen.
  14. Not sure if these number are legit or just more media hype?? The marker at Kaub, currently at just 35 centimeters (13.8 inches), is expected to jump as high as 148 centimeters on Tuesday morning https://www.bnnbloomberg.ca/rhine-water-level-forecast-to-hit-148cm-at-kaub-on-tuesday-1.1807723
  15. As far as the Rhine goes. Looking at Marine Traffic, I saw there were 2 ships AMAMora and AMALucia between Strasbourg and Basel. Not many ships are making to Mannheim, they appear to stay between Strasbourg and Basel. There is 1 ship AMACerto on the Moselle which is supposed to be going to Nuremburg, which seems pretty unlikely AMAMagna was reportedly docked back in Budapest. Not sure how that happened.
  16. Viking. Both ships they used were stationary and they were bussed daily to different sights. Ships were pretty much just a hotel base. Notification of the changes were provided 22 hours prior to departure. At 24 hours prior to departure they'd have been able to use their cancellation policy at that times and get a refund. 10 days of bus trips.
  17. After their site was attacked by ransomware they have instituted several additional security measure. These new measures are making their site slow or just about impossible at times. Get a good Travel Agent and put them to work sitting on the phones. Free up your time and let them work for you. It doesn't cost you anything and they may be able to provide better deals or discounts.
  18. Scenic is an upscale line and mostly all suites on their ships. They are truly 'All Inclusive' lines and closer to what Uniworld or Tauck provide. Viking ships look very nice and their cabins look nice. Pricing and service levels are very different when you compare them side by side.
  19. It looks like AMA have moved several ship to the Netherlands/Belgium region. I notice there are at least 3 ships "up there" now. I guess they can still keep them sailing there. Here's a posting from another group: We were scheduled for the Enchanting Rhine, Basel to Amsterdam on 8/20, but nature had other plans. Water levels are too low, so Ama offered an alternate itinerary on the same ship from Brussels to Amsterdam (with no flight changes).
  20. My cousin was on the Elbe with V about 8 years ago and they had real problems with low/no water. They along with fellow passengers were forced to sign NDA's to get any for of compensation.
  21. While no line can control weather or locks, there are other lines which offer more generous refunds in such situations. Some of the A lines for example.
