  1. There are several proctoring services that can be used with self administered tests. Not sure what is available in the US, but BinaxNOW Is one name I've heard.
  2. Apparently some believe ArriveCAN infringes on constitutional rights, https://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/group-files-constitutional-challenge-of-arrivecan-app-in-federal-court-1.6040629. One can only hope the justices don't injure themselves falling off the bench laughing.
  3. When cruising to Canada, complete the ArriveCAN submission up to 72 hours prior to boarding. You will need a copy of the returned QR code to present at boarding. The rule is quite simple, anyone entering Canada must make an ArriveCAN submission. To facilitate cruises, passengers are able to complete the submission prior to boarding rather than arrival at the first Canadian port.
  4. You may want to send the question to help@cruisecritic.com using your registered email and mentioning your username.
  5. An email can be sent with a QR code that can be printed. I believe in traveling with paper backups. 🙂 You may have to show the QR for boarding. Since the submission is tied to your passport, it is unlikely that it will have to be present to border officials.
  6. You can put in a dummy date within 72 hours and proceed, just don't Submit the trip. Select Save & Exit, when you reenter the app/web page you will have a trip ticket waiting. It can be easily deleted (the trash can) or you can go back into it and enter new dates, etc. Once traveller and vaccination info is entered it is retained for easy re-use.
  7. It is in fact illegal in a number of countries, several of which are popular Caribbean cruise stops. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_that_prohibit_camouflage_clothing
  8. At the present time anyone 5 or older, boarding a cruise ship in Canada or that will be porting in Canada must have a negative COVID test to board. You will need a negative test to board in Boston and another to board in Quebec city. See https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid/travel-restrictions/cruise for details and up-to-date requirements.
  9. On the certificate upload page a green check mark is displayed below the two boxes if there is a valid certificate on file.
  10. This has been discussed in other threads. It comes down to one's risk tolerance. No one has reported a proctored BTNX test being refused for boarding. Several have reported successful use. Given recent developments the subject is rapidly becoming moot for all but the unvaccinated on some itineraries.
  11. If I recall correctly, a few weeks ago someone posted in the Canadian section that Viking (I think) required an ArriveCAN QR code for a cruise exiting Canada. It suggested using Canada Place. I believe the reason the cruise line had the requirement was for the proof of vaccination. Not sure if that was ever verified.
  12. Fully vaccinated essential travellers are able to reuse an ArriveCAN receipt for essential travel. So there is already an exception that allows multiple use. It seems to me that a similar exception might work for the situation you outline. Perhaps a blanket exception that allows use of the same receipt for 3 or so days.
  13. I believe you will need to complete the second ArriveCAN submission after entering Canada. As fast as I know only one submission can be active at a time. It's actually not that big a deal as the app/web page retains vaccination and passport data so it can be easily incorporated into new submissions. Can you provide a link? Cruises departing the US that do not port in Canada or Bermuda for the most part no longer require a pre-boarding test. Details vary by cruise line and I believe Royal Caribbean still requires tests for itineraries longer than 5 nights. Check with your cruise line.
  14. Anyone entering Canada must make an ArriveCAN submission prior to entry. If entering by cruise ship the ArriveCAN submission must be completed prior to boarding. See https://www.canada.ca/en/border-services-agency/services/arrivecan.html for most up-to-date information. Passengers of cruises calling in Canada must provide a negative test prior to boarding. Check with https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid/travel-restrictions/cruise for up-to-date information. This page includes more details on ArriveCAN and cruise ship travel.
  15. Citizenship has nothing to do with the need to complete an ArriveCAN submission. Everyone entering Canada must complete a submission.
  16. People flying likely have been told about ArriveCAN by their airline. People driving from the US may not know about the requirement. The US media is hardly interested in Canadian border crossing and drivers may depend on pre pandemic knowledge.
  17. The logic is the voyage. If you don't accept that it is a fundamentally different environment from an aircraft, you will never understand the logic behind the regulation.
  18. One tests to get on to reduce the number of actively infected people boarding. Given the petri dish that is a cruise ship it strikes me as a good idea.
  19. In my experience Canadians freely intermix US and British spellings. I generally only use Canadian spelling if the audience is limited to the Commonwealth. As a result anything I do on the internet typically has US spelling.
  20. WiFi will still work. If voice doesn't work, data likely won't. Various US carriers have scheduled shutoff of 3G and 4G services. As far as I know the cellular at sea services have not scheduled any 3 or 4 gen shutoffs.
  21. Royal Caribbean has also announce lifting of test requirements for vaccinated passengers on cruises less than 6 nights. https://www.royalcaribbean.com/the-healthy-sail-center?icid=hlthys_wrnssn_hlt_nbrdxp_pghdr_3467.
  22. Often baggage handler contracts impose weight restrictions and penalties per piece which may account for the staff's insistence on each bag being under limit.
